Shooting some stuff on my sister's rooftop, took a few tests, this was one, didn't look as nice as I wanted but I stil think it came out pretty well. I wish I could have done this with the whole skyline there. but there really wasn't a way, I like that smoke stack left frame though, the whole area is a bunch of very old warehouses, train stations and alleys. Trying to plan a trip with J and see what we can get done!

NYC Loft: This is a shot from the rooftop. It's the last days of winter, which allow for an uninterrupted views of the Verrazano Narrows.
Can you hear the harbour sounds? It's a lovely place to meditate, work, lounge, yoga, spy on neighbours, watch the stars & of course, to take photographs.

I was looking down from the 86th floor observatory towards the Flatiron building when I saw this AMAZING rooftop garden. They say NYC is an asphalt jungle, but there is green everywhere!

great view on the "fort carre", the harbor and on the bay and mountains.
The space includes a summer kitchen with fridge, microwave, plancha and cooking table.
The space is shared with the other building occupants.

Rooftop garden looking at the small pots on the front wall. These are sitting on the cap stones on the top of the wall. I have found that the small terracotta containers dry out very quickly the nearest ones have lettuce and peas and the larger far ones have pepper plants. The plastic containers are 20 liter olive containers that were given to me by a neighbor down the street who collected them from a nearby grocery/deli.
Before sunrise from the roof of Yuan Yen Yuan Hotel on Gulangyu. Here is a photo by 1980Nic which shows much more of the view of Gualngyu and Xiamen across the water a bit. Her photo also shows the relationship between Xiamen and Gulangyu island.

In the past Gulangyu was one of China's foreign concessions, usually walled areas, where foreigners lived in isolated communities where they built buildings in the style of thier own country. Shanghai has 7 distinct sections of architecture in its old concession area. Since Gulangyu is an island it was not walled. Until very recently nothing was done to maintain the grand old homes and consulates. They were slowly inhabited by groups of families, or left empty. Its the prettiest place I know in China. The peace and quiet there, as a walking-only island has been my mental health therapy, just a short boat ride away from the city.
