It was a happy coincidence when:
(1) my husband gave me a Carolyn Frielander Botanics Roll Up for Christmas,
(2) I joined a retreat at the 11th hour,
(3) I needed a pair of single bed quilts and
(4) I had on my quilt pattern to-do list, the Lawn Chair Quilts byMonica Solorio-Snow of Happy Zombie. Her Free pattern can be found on the Moda Bake Shop site www.modabakeshop.com/2010/09/lawn-chair-quilts.html
I like the Robert Kaufman rolls as they have straight cut edges - they are not pinked. My trusty bolt of Kona white went along to the retreat with me and I was able to happily cut, sew and piece and be very industrious while still socializing. With a few extra pieces from the Botanics line, I made two (60 x 85) single quilts. As a bonus I was able to use for binding, the off-cuts from the backing after quilting - love that thrifty use of the fabric.
Parallel quilting lines provided a clean and simple finish. I love the crisp freshness of the fabrics and Lawn Chair pattern.
It was a perfect retreat project while meeting my needs for new single bed quilts. Thanks Monica for designing and sharing the pattern via Moda Bake Shop!

Not your typical Nigiri roll. Today is our annual Sushi Day Party and we wanted to go a little green on some of the desserts.
Gummy Nigiri. Quick and simple recipe.. make Rice Krispy Treats (recipe on the box or on the marshmallow package), place a gummy fish, swedish fish or whatever else sounds good (or gross) and wrap with a cut strip of fruit rollup.
Hommage to my lovely mother who would have been horrified at this image because she didn't smoke. But she did have a sense of humour. ("Vera Lynn=skin")

The birds are singing, the flowers are blooming, the planets have aligned, and I am, once again, flat on my face, on the correct day of the week. Aaaah, harmony returns. HFDT everyone!

Deck the halls with pine garlands and tinsel and the table with your very prettiest and tastiest foods ... the holidays have come!
Feeding the festive throngs that visit your home between Thanksgiving and New Year is no small job, even for the most enthusiastic of hostesses. Pre-planning is a necessity so that recipes and ingredients are on hand and ready for use.
The finished results are worth the effort, however, when guests give a rousing three cheers to the cook for dishes such as these Gourmet Chicken Rollups.
Here's a dish that looks - and tastes - like company best. And it's one that you can serve to unexpected guests or for a party of long planning, since most of the ingredients are shelf staples, items ready for service.
