Saw quite a crowd of Hackney's hippest residents taking photos of this line of riot police the other night. So obviously I joined them.

Snacktime! Saba Man really likes having a snack before heading for the long commute home.

here I set the 86 inch paul buff umbrella(in softbox mode) directly behind me. It's powered with an Alien Bee 800. Then I placed the Westcott Apollo directly behind the subject, for a quick High Key effect

It was a happy coincidence when:

(1) my husband gave me a Carolyn Frielander Botanics Roll Up for Christmas,

(2) I joined a retreat at the 11th hour,

(3) I needed a pair of single bed quilts and

(4) I had on my quilt pattern to-do list, the Lawn Chair Quilts byMonica Solorio-Snow of Happy Zombie. Her Free pattern can be found on the Moda Bake Shop site www.modabakeshop.com/2010/09/lawn-chair-quilts.html

I like the Robert Kaufman rolls as they have straight cut edges - they are not pinked. My trusty bolt of Kona white went along to the retreat with me and I was able to happily cut, sew and piece and be very industrious while still socializing. With a few extra pieces from the Botanics line, I made two (60 x 85) single quilts. As a bonus I was able to use for binding, the off-cuts from the backing after quilting - love that thrifty use of the fabric.

Parallel quilting lines provided a clean and simple finish. I love the crisp freshness of the fabrics and Lawn Chair pattern.

It was a perfect retreat project while meeting my needs for new single bed quilts. Thanks Monica for designing and sharing the pattern via Moda Bake Shop!
