what birthday would be complete without an assault and attempted robbery?
i credit two things for saving me from losing my wallet and passport when I found myself surrounded on the metro without anything to hold onto, with a man standing close behind me.
1. The American who found us looking at our map early in the morning who warned us not to speak to each other when riding trams or metros. Since we weren't talking, I could feel and hear the knife at my side, ripping open the part of my bag sticking out from under my arm. I looked up to see the reflection in the metro door in front of me. I could see the man over my shoulder standing behind me, looking at me through the reflection as well. it was quiet for a moment, and then i felt another pull, another rip, close to my body (which was him slicing the lining of the bag).
2. This book. When my instinct told me that I was being cut, I didn't talk myself out of being alert. Rather than tell myself I was being paranoid, I simply pulled my bag even closer to my chest. If I hadn't reshuffled my bag, or even if I'd done it ten seconds later, I would have lost everything. I'd been careful of my bag, but when we were surrounded on the metro without anything to hold onto, I lost my footing a couple of times when the subway started. In doing so, the bottom edge of my bag was sticking out from under my right arm.
I'm proud of myself, but I'm frustrated with myself. I shouldn't have looked like a mark.
He got nothing, but it really sucked.
I paid R45 for about 2 hours parking today. I didn't notice that this parking area is for longer term parking only and it costs R45 for the 1st day or part of a day!

Sumpter Valley Railroad as it arrives in the Gold Rush town of Sumpter.
The Sumpter Valley Railroad is open weekends and major holidays, Memorial Day Weekend through the last weekend in September. Round trips take just over two hours, including a layover in either McEwen or Sumpter. There are also many special events throughout the season, ranging from train robberies to photo specials.
The Railroad’s station is located in Oregon’s Sumpter Dredge State Park and visitors to the railroad can also tour this iconic gold dredge during their visit to Sumpter and the railroad

FUN AND FROLIC -- Employees of the Taft National Bank and the Oildorado Sherf's Posse were taken by surprise late Friday afternoon by a raid on the bank by the Oildorado "Wooden Nickel Gang." Three bank tellers were taken "hostage" in the phony shootout, and Bank President Gene Smith said $50,000 in wooden nickels was stolen. The Sherf's Posse cornered the robbers in the parking lot and a shootout, with blacks, ensues. At least one gang member "died with his boots on," in the above photo. Smith said he plans to post the bank with armed guards throughout the remainder of Oildorado Days to ensure that any deposits of "wooden nickels," will be safe. (Midway Driller photo by Tim Neher.)

The West Chester Police Department released three surveillance photos of last Thursday’s (May 5) robbery of the U.S. Bank, located at 9135 Cox Road, in West Chester.
No one was more surprised than Uncle Scrooge, when one of his three grandnephews robbed him on the way to the night depository. Apparently the little duck had developed a bad quack habit and needed to finance his addiction. Unfortunately, no arrest has been forthcoming since Scrooge never could tell which of his relatives was Huey, Dewey, or Louie.

HELP NEEDED IDENTIFYING ROBBERY SUSPECT: CCSO detectives are asking for the
public's help in identifying a man suspected of robbing a convenience store
on Smallwood Drive in Waldorf in November. The suspect entered the business,
approached the counter as if he were going to purchase an item and told the
clerk he had a weapon. He threatened the employee and demanded money. The
victim complied and the suspect fled. The suspect is described as a white
male, 5'10", slim build, wearing a 2007 blue Colonial Beach Drag Ways
jacket, blue jeans and white tennis shoes. Anyone with information about the
suspect's identity is asked to call Det. P. Tona with the CCSO at (301)
932-2222. Callers wishing to remain anonymous may contact Crime Solvers at
