Macro Monday theme for today was 'cutter' and I spent ages trying to take a decent shot of my sprue cutters.
In the end went with a throw away shot of my pizza cutter that we used for my daughter's tea.
HMM!
Tepa Putul
Tepa Putul or indigenous clay dolls have their origins in the images of deities, made by potters. They are shaped by hand, dried in the sun and fired in kilns. Originally, there were never painted.
Tepa Putul were not made for sale. These dolls were generally gift items or for sacrifice. At some point, artisans faced financial crises and began looking for alternative means of earning money. Thus they started selling these dolls. Now the dolls are painted in yellow, red, green and black. (The Daily Star)

Fall arrived last night with quite a Las Vegas wind storm. These little acorns were scattered all around today. Either sweep them up or do a photo. What else. 14 shot focus stack with window light from the side and a ring light on the the lens.

I’ve heard a lot of criticism aimed at Photoshop on the basis that it manipulates the image and is therefore not a ‘real’ photographic product.
Yet manipulating a medium to create something original is the very basis of art. Artists have always manipulated their materials using a wide variety of creative tools to express something that interprets their subject.
In photography’s case, we make creative decisions at every step.
The lens we chose decides our focal length, depth of field and degree of sharpness. When we place a filter on our lens, we are manipulating the end product. Likewise, the format we shoot in decides the bit depth and, by extension, the dynamic range of our photo.
When we download images from camera to computer, the digital information is interpolated - ie. a mathematical algorithm reconfigures the information into another form. If we re-size or print an image, another algorithm maps out a new set of values to produce the desired result.
Even without using an editing program like Photoshop, we are making creative decisions that manipulate our final result.

I like the VIDEO because it contains images of leather bound books.

played around with back lighting the flakes (on a piece of glass). I used a ring light/flash, for some fill light. I have become addicted to shooting snow flakes. I am still looking for the perfect flake.

what do you do when the gorgeous guy you've been dying to shoot is not the model, but the editor-in-chief of the magazine you're shooting for? if you're me, you tell him you need him to stand in to test the light for a couple of quick shots. ;-)
(don't hate me, mike...)
Well, now that bird season is winding down, the bug season is just beginning. So, I got my macro gear out and have started to take close-ups of my garden guests and residents. Here is a portrait of a Dragonfly that simply posed and always presented his left side no matter where I placed the camera. I guess it know its photogenic side.

....getting tired of all the fashion stuff, think it's time to get back to my other world of pics ;)
Frustrating day trying to crack a piece of software on what I know should be a really simple model to build has left me a little mentally drained today.
Which is why I'm always grateful for the Macro Monday group who's theme today was Musical Instruments.
After my wife's monster tidy and organise session at the weekend it was really easy to find one of the kids penny whistles for a top down macro shot.
Nice and grainy.
Test of my new Macro Ringlight from Nissin in combination with the vintage manual Canon 200mm macro lens.
The distance was around 40cm.
