This photo is virtually as it was off camera. A few corrections to remove the reflections from the ringlight, minor cropping, and some dust removal. All the colours are 'as was'. As with the previous shell shots, this is a 1:1 macro shot of a 1cm diameter shell.

New addition to my ODD lenses. Now I will use these microscopic objectives with my Nikon camera. Eager to see the results.

I'm of an age now where my clothing choices are based on three criteria.

1.) How warm is it?

2.) Is it waterproof?

3.) How much is knocked off in the sale?

Macro Monday's theme this week was 'zipper' so I grabbed a shot of the zip on my Buffalo Special 6 Shirt, my current favourite piece of clothing. It's the warmest coat I've ever owned and I'm loving it in the current weather when watching lacrosse at the weekends.

the large version has cool eye circles that I'd call "catchlights" if I knew anything about it?

Tepa Putul

Tepa Putul or indigenous clay dolls have their origins in the images of deities, made by potters. They are shaped by hand, dried in the sun and fired in kilns. Originally, there were never painted.

Tepa Putul were not made for sale. These dolls were generally gift items or for sacrifice. At some point, artisans faced financial crises and began looking for alternative means of earning money. Thus they started selling these dolls. Now the dolls are painted in yellow, red, green and black. (The Daily Star)

This was photograph was take for the Marbles theme of the Macro Mondays weekly challenge group.

The assembly is approximately 1 inch in diameter. The marbles were from a friend at work who retired. The ring was for a dog's rabies tag. The screws were what held on the back of my old laptop and the blue was adhesive on the threads.

I like the main reflection of the ring light on the center and the secondary reflections on the sides of the balls.

Taken handheld with Sony Nex 5T with telephoto lens at 210mm, Raynox DCR 250 macro converter, and Fotodiox LED ring light (first time I've tried it). I think the ring light is an improvement, and definitely helped because this session was fading into dusk. I'm still not totally satisfied with the focus and I still notice cloudiness in some of the shots and dullness overall, but I think the light helped a lot and this is an improvement I can keep working with.

This one isn't cropped at all.

Olympus 50mm f3.5 Macro w/ LED Ringlight

Today is the morning after the night before... we had friends round to welcome in the New Year and say good riddance to last year and we had a hoot.

Clearing up the carnage this morning I thought it best to grab my first 365 shot early on before the house fills up again later on.

Trusty 365 macro lens with an LED ringlight and another light to the left... whilst trying to capture the thin slice of the words 'champagne' on the edge of the cork. Hands were much steadier than they really should have been to be truthful.

And so begins the millstone that is a Project365 which hopefully will end up with another lovely book of memories for the kids.

turns out one is actually empty. phew. anudda: whiskerino.org/2009/beards/jon/

A ring flash is such a popular and easy DIY project that I finally couldn't resist the temptation to make one myself. I'll post some detailed instructions on how to make one (like this) when I have more time, but most of you should be able to figure out the essentials just by looking at the finished product.

Materials:

- plastic dome (originally intended for covering food in a microwave oven)

- a tin (sans fruit salad)

- something with male filter threads on it; I used a very cheap Cokin P filter holder clone

- aluminium baking foil

Total cost of materials (excluding paint and glue) was approx. €7 (and we ate the fruit salad from the tin; it's included as a bonus). Of course, a regular flashgun is also required, and with this method of mounting the flash you need some way to trigger it off-camera (optical triggering by the built-in flash would work nicely since light from the trigger flash is blocked by the dome).

One thing to consider with this method of construction is that the lens cannot have rotating filter threads (when zooming or focusing), because they almost certainly would not welcome having to fight the weight of the ring flash, and the flashgun position would change during focusing (mine doesn't fall even if it's under the ring, but I wouldn't count on it). The best lens for this is a prime with internal focusing (i.e. length doesn't change depending on focus), but an extending macro lens worked fine in my experiments. For flimsier lenses it is probably better to mount the ring on the camera somehow (e.g. with some kind of holder attached to the tripod threads), or hand-hold the flashgun above the ring instead of supporting its weight on it.

Halva (also halvah, halwa, and other spellings) are dense, sweet confections originating in the Middle East. It is also served in Central and South Asia, the Balkans, the Caucasus, Eastern Europe, Malta, North Africa, the Horn of Africa, and in the Jewish diaspora. Identical sweets exist in other countries, such as China, though these are not generally referred to as "halva". - Wikipedia
