Oh and these...All my shoppers are made of re-used fabrics like pillow cases, old curtains, table clothes etc.
The 3rd Annual Fashion Trashion event at the University of Minnesota, Morris. This event is run by the Studio Art folks, who have students in the intro 3-D studio course create costumes out of recycled, reused, or repurposed materials. This is a always a huge success, with lots of really creative work and a ton of fun for the audience.
Jess Larson is the MC, Jennie Nellis taught the course this year, and the judges are Troy Goodnough (Sustainability Coordinator), Jennifer Deane (History), Jacquie Johnson (Chancellor), Ray Schultz (Theatre), and Hilda Ladner (Multi-ethnic Programs)
The floor of the ovens appears to have been raised incorporating a reused moulded stone that might have been a plinth, or possibly a capital on a column.
Ethan rockin' his new resusable diapers. They're giant, but they're also a giant savings in the long run...

It's a part of our Greener Birthday Guide
It's pretty simple really, The ReUse Project is about finding multiple uses for things and throwing nothing away that doesn't have to be. ReUsing is kind of like Recycling, only we arent geting rid of things, we are finding new uses for them.
Here are a few examples of how you might ReUse...
Example 1:
I was walking down the street the other day when i found ________ in the trash. I decided to take ________ home and turned it into _________.
Example 2:
I had _______ sitting in my closet for the last million years and I finally did something with it.
Example 3:
I got _________ for my birthday this year, and i really didnt like it, so i cut it up and turned it into _______.
There are many ways to ReUse.
"One mans trash is another mans treasure"
I got one of those in a swap lately, and seen them here too, and when I looked more closely I thought: I can make that too! so here is my first try on a foldable totebag :)
I have a talented friend who makes wedding dresses and just occasionaly she gives me a bag of small offcuts of the most wonderful material, usually silk.
In this photograph I have shown how every inch of this material is used. I have machine embroidered ( without a hoop) several different sized flower shapes with are destined for cards and present decorations.

Bringing my own reusable grocery bags to the store is a simple change, but one that will save me from using approximately 500 plastic bags each year. Every week when I went to the grocery store, I would come home with an average of 10 plastic bags full of groceries. Sometimes it was even more, because the young clerks at checkout don't care if they only put a few items in just one bag and those bags are so flimsy they easily break if they are overloaded. Every week I would think, "I need to remember to bring/buy those reusable bags and stop using plastic!". Well, after my time with Polar Bears International the thought of using so many plastic bags made me cringe. I went out and bought those reusable bags and I use them for all my shopping now. I even bring them to Walmart, where people look at me like I am crazy for using them, but I don't care! I hope that maybe a few people are actually proud of me for doing my part to help the environment. Just maybe some of those people will follow in my footsteps next time they go to the grocery store or Walmart, too. I also am happy that I am setting a good example for my children when I come home with the groceries. No more plastic bags!
When I take my lunch to work with me (or in the car, or wherever), I use my reusable lunch sack! This baby has gotten me through nearly 10 years of work lunches. That's a lot of brown bags.
Flowers made of bamboo felt finished with shell buttons. Sash is white muslin, though I have scraps of the main fabric enough that I could have made the sashes in coordinating fabric.

Pattern is New Leaf Folding Tote From Heather Bailey

It's a similar idea to McCall's 6130 (mccallpattern.mccall.com/m6130-products-11144.php?page_id...) which I've sewn before, but these are even nicer, since they are fully lined.
The pattern calls for 5/8ths yards of the main and contrasting fabric, but I had a 1/2 yard bundle and was able to adapt the pattern to work with those. Instead of making the handles entirely in the main fabric, I had to make one said main fabric and one side lining fabric.
And about that fabric, it's Moroccan Mirage (half yard bundle of the entire line) and I got it from this etsy shop:

Her fabric selection is BEAUTIFUL and her prices are great. I could go broke shopping in her store.

This is original artwork handmade and cut by me.
It measure 10 by 10 inches. It was created with reused and recycled papers and ribbon. The penguins are flying through the sky with the help from some ribbon. The Polar Bear is really enjoying the view!
