The Roman Bridge at Saint-Thibéry (French: Pont romain de Saint-Thibéry) was a Roman segmental arch bridge on the Via Domitia in southern France. The partly surviving structure crossed the river Hérault in Saint-Thibéry, 17 km east of Béziers.
The ancient bridge had nine arches with spans of 10–12 m. The roadway rested on wide piers, which were protected on both sides by arched floodways and large cutwaters. The original length of the structure is estimated as 150 m, its road width as 4 m. The missing spans are known to have been destroyed by flood some time before 1536.
The remaining arches, with a span to rise ratio of 3.3:1 (115°) or more, show a visibly flatter profile than the semi-circular arches usually preferred by Roman engineers (180°). The rib thickness varies between one-tenth to one-twentieth of the span, corresponding to a common ratio also observed at a number of other Roman stone bridges. The structure is dated to the reign of emperor Augustus (30 BC–14 AD). Immediately upstream an old water mill and its millrace is located.

Indeed, I might well have been Blue and Purple myself this early evening as I'm writing this. I'd hiked along the Don River - which borders Devonport on the west as the Mersey does on the east - to the coast. It's something of a hike, and I decided to have a sit-down under a huge Blue Gum Tree. Attentive to bird song, I suddenly heard a cracking sound in the fierce cold wind. I jumped away and down came a big Gum Branch with a swishy thump. Extracting my little back-pack from the leaves I noticed of course the pretty white flowers (see inset above left).
A bit earlier in the woods right along the Don River, I'd come upon Viola banksii (see inset below left), relatively recently named for great Joseph Banks (1743-1820), whom I've often mentioned. It was 'rediscovered' in southern Tasmania by another intrepid botanist collector, Jacques-Julien Houtou de Labillardière (1755-1834), who was a naturalist of the famous 'La-Pérouse' retrieval expedition (1791-1794) which came to nothing. Regardless, he was able to collect and later wrote a fine description of the plants of what was then called New Holland.
After all this excitement I was rather Blue and Purple from the chilly wind and hurried into town for some hot coffee!

After infiltrating the business building in the inner city district, the EU Units located the second of the three places where the SSA arrest the hostages. This little shed was located at the coast of Abu Dhabi right next to the wall around the inner city districts. The SSA Units are simply powerless against the EU strike forces.

I spotted this lovely bird on a footpath across the road as I was pulling out in my car. A quick turn around up the road and a careful parking nearby, plus a quiet as I could retrieval of camera and lens from the car boot and I got one shot then off he went across the bay!
When your model dune buggy gets bogged down there is only one option, climb the dune and collect it. This radio controlled buggy was a couple of feet in length so hopefully that will give some scale to this chaps task. Photographed on the Singing Sands of central Qatar.
Yes, I need to get out and take some more photos! I have had so little time recently. However, processing some images I took a while ago with DxO Optics Pro 11, which now supports the PENTAX K-1, has spurred me on. I need to make the time! The aftermath of the posts of the past two days was a valiant struggle on the part of the striped mullet, possibly assisted by a submerged cormorant that surfaced as the Osprey gained control, and finally a successful retrieval of the fish from Horsepen Bayou.
Just remembering the beauty and grace exhibited by the great blue herons during their courtship, breeding, and nesting seasons. From their graceful glide over the surface of the water, to their careful selection of the perfect stick or branch, to their elegantly executed landing as they return to the nest, and to their greeting and togetherness that they exhibit when they both lovingly place it in the nest ... it's all such a true love story.
I hope that the GBHs remember that part of the season more than their heads being grabbed and abused by their young wanting to be fed NOW! LOL.
Hope everyone's week is off to a good beginning. Thanks for stopping by to view.

I guess you could call this one a breakup gun.
It wouldn't have worked, and it was better for it to end now instead of later, but I still have to say that the feeling it left me with sucks a lot.

CN has combined L588, consisting of one box car and one steel coil car, and L544, consisting of 30+ ash and limestone hopper cars, for the run south out of Centralia, IL. The train is seen crossing the UP Pinckneyville Sub at Tamaroa, which consists of two switches rather than a diamond. The crew would leave the hoppers at Layfield for later retrieval by a "normal" run of 544.
The Empire usually issues orders for retrieval of stolen imperial vehicles that bandits are very quick to dismount. Bossk and IG-88 has teamed-up to retrieve an old imperial dropship which has been largely modified. The bandits are to be put under imperial disposition. Easy money for the bounty hunters team - they are no deal for their unified skills.

So you have been in the intergalactic shipping business awhile when suddenly one of your trans-planetary shipments goes missing. What fate has befallen the vessel? Was it possibly damaged by a sneaky astroid field, pulled off coarse by an unforeseen planet's gravity, or perhaps crash landed in some foreign planets toxic ocean? You don't really need to get that stuff in the shipping containers back, do you? Of course you do, so buy one of our multi-purpose retrieval units and you can kick back while your missing goods are returned in time for the next shipping cycle.
Another, perhaps better, shot of my latest build with some mild extra background elements to give some additional purpose and life to the bot.

The art of losing isn't hard to master; so many things seem filled with the intent to be lost that their loss is no disaster.
Lose something every day.
Accept the fluster of lost door keys, the hour badly spent.
The art of losing isn't hard to master.
I lost two cities, lovely ones.
And, vaster, some realms I owned, two rivers, a continent.
I miss them, but it wasn't a disaster.
Even losing you (the joking voice, a gesture I love)I shan't have lied.
It's evident the art of losing's not too hard to master though it may look like (Write it!) like disaster.

The Emergency Medical Retrieval Service (EMRS), provides patients with life threatening conditions in remote and rural areas of Scotland, with rapid access to the skills of a consultant in emergency or intensive care medicine. The consultants are ready to respond to requests for help, by helicopter or plane, within minutes.
SGHD funded a west coast pilot of EMRS for 18 months commencing in June 2008. Over the 18 months to the end of November 2009 EMRS has undertaken 356 retrievals and given advice on a further 283 patients.

In 1070 Pope Alexander II ordered the Normans to do penance for killing so many people during their conquest of England. So William the Conqueror vowed to build an abbey where the Battle of Hastings had taken place, with the high altar of its church on the supposed spot where King Harold fell in that battle on Saturday, 14 October 1066. He did start building it, dedicating it to St. Martin, sometimes known as "the Apostle of the Gauls," though William died before it was completed. Its church was finished in about 1094 and consecrated during the reign of his son William Rufus. William the Conqueror had ruled that the Church of St Martin of Battle was to be exempted from all episcopal jurisdiction, putting it on the level of Canterbury. It was remodelled in the late 13th century but virtually destroyed during the Dissolution of the Monasteries under King Henry VIII.
