Despite the number drawn on the nose, the Rail Express Systems Class 47 pictured pausing at Brockenhurst is actually 47741 Resilient Although the majority of Cross Country services to Bournemouth and beyond at this time utilised HSTs, Class 47s could still be found on the route, with occasional substitutions from the regular Class 47/8s. The service is 1E32 0905 Poole-Newcastle, a working booked for an HST, so the loco-hauled set with Res 47 was even more unexpected. The loco ran as far as Birmingham International, before being swapped for an HST, and then worked 1H28 Birmingham International-Manchester Piccadilly, and 1V99 1915 Manchester Piccadilly-Paddington. With thanks to Phil Geisler for details of the workings on this day.

This tree survives with only part of a hollowed out trunk. A combination of three exposures on a windy day gives life to the branches in contrast to the gnarled steadfast trunk.

We were expecting torrents, and instead got soft steady rain that lasted the whole day. The greening seemed to happen overnight. What was dead and brown is now coming back to life, reminding me of Mother Nature's remarkable resiliency, and how it is a reflection of our own.

Her life was a tragedy. She adapted in the most unique and beautiful way; She chose to live her life as a kind of performance art - a ballet of types - with the whole world as her stage.

Be soft ... be resilient, be feminine, be shy, be proud, don't be loud, don't take up too much space. Be what they want you to be, but don't be too much... because you will never be enough...fuck them. Be wild, be proud, be loud, and be authentic, be the embodiment of love and give it away freely, for the world is cruel and will break you time and time again. Claw and crawl your way back to you.. nurse the broken pieces and be kind your soul doesn't need to understand the 'if's' and 'why's' don't let them murder the sparkle you have for life.

Thank you everyone for visiting, commenting and fav'ing - very much appreciated!

I always find it fascinating seeing these bamboo scaffolding on skyscrapers when visiting Hong Kong. Bamboo is flexible and sturdy at the same time - it can withstand high winds.

As for HDR processing, this image is based on a single exposure. The paintery HDR post-processing makes the building visible, without it, you just see the white protective tarp.

Redwood trees have thick bark and can survive wildfires, or at least they have in the past before wildfires burned so hot. This one is probably several hundred years old, a true survivor. Marin County, California.

47741 was one of a number of Class 47's hired in by Virgin from EWS to boost the 47/8 fleet which was suffering from reliability issues.

Most came from the Rail Express Systems 47/7 pool, and an ex works Resilient is seen here ready to depart Preston for the south sometime in 2001.

Truly enjoying the Voigtlander Nokton Classic 40mm F1.4 MC lens. It renders images in a way that is reminiscent of film. View other shots taken with this lens here.

The devastating impact of COVID-19 on Travel & Tourism highlighted the need for enhanced resilience. Yet, to ensure the long-term competitiveness of the sector, such resilience must be both sustainable and inclusive and supported by enabling policies. As Travel & Tourism recovers, how can businesses and destinations alike enhance their resilience and drive sustainable and inclusive growth through their operations and investments?
