I have to reshoot this. I want the boy to pop from this pic. I just used ambient light, so even with 3200 iso and f2.8, the shutter speed was 1/20. So I'm assuming a flash would help so I can get a faster shutter speed? And what speed should I go for?

Any other suggestions from you brilliant ones out there?

As requested on my earlier pearls shot. I swear I didn't blurry this one intentionally! But 8 AM is the worst time to take pictures in my living-room mirror - especially when it's not even cleaned properly and I have to use f/11 to at least get part of me in focus, ISO 1600 so I can have distinguishable facial features and steady my hand at 1/25 seconds while holding "the brick" with one hand. Yeah, and being late for work... that too :)

I'll try to redo a pearl self portrait in hopes of more decent results. And who knows, maybe actually use a tripod and the self timer?! :)

But there you go - see, you don't have to be dressed in lace to wear pearls :)

By request my friends took me back to Altenberg where the "cathedral" (Dom) lies in the middle of a forest in the Bergisches Land, east of Cologne. It is in fact a Cistercian Abbey, of cathedral size but was never the seat of a bishop. Following Dissolution in ?1801 the building fell into rapid decay but was rescued in 1847 thanks to funds granted by the King of Prussia Friedrich Wilhelm on the decree that the church be used by both Protestants and Catholics, which it still is today.

It is pure (French-influenced) Gothic, with no real tower but a Dachreiter over the crossing. The west window of the nave has the largest area of medieval glass preserved in Germany but most other windows have grisaille. In the early C19 many of the treasures were sold, and indeed a church in Gloucestershire has medieval glass thought to have come from this abbey church.

I love this place but I was surprised to see recent improvements in the little village (including a small museum - no entry, exhibits viewed from outside) which now surrounds the abbey and the Cologne diocesan youth school which occupies the site of the claustral buildings. Very popular at the weekends for people tripping from Dusseldorf Cologne and Bonn. Very quiet for my visit.

The organ is in the south transept and dates from 1980, but was restored and enlarged in 1995 and 2005. It includes a computer to operate the stops but still needs a human to play it. The treat for us was a small party were being shown around and had four short pieces played for them in an impromptu concert. The Glockenspiel piece included was a delight and the monster thrash finale piece (a French composer I think) had the whole church seemingly shaking.

I googled what colours stand for Hope...most sights stated green...some stated green or white...so when I saw this flower, I thought it ticked all the boxes...it's pretty, it's white and there's green!
