Grandpops Woodlice, also known as Philip Male, wrote that he would prefer to see one yellow bead. (See his comments on the previous macro, if curious.) I'm not certain if that meant one yellow bead without the tiny 18mm glass container or cork top. Perhaps he is quite a minimalist, although perhaps not. That is a large bear he posted today.
Fiddled with this a tad in an old version of Photoshop.

Apologies for the absence on here... I have just had a manic few weeks with work and family life and photography trips and something just had to give... This is the first in a series of Puffin shots from a trip to the Isle of May... I never feel I have much time there so this time I decided on just going to two locations on the Island and working each one for an hour... mainly shooting the Puffins! I tried for ages to get the perfect landings shot... one on its own landing but I never quite got what I wanted of a single backlit bird landing... but other shots like this more than make up for it! The 2.5hrs on the island passed as it always does in a flash!

One of the requests I get from time to time is to make a triptych of house numbers I have found on my many urban walks. They are usually a combo of numbers to celebrate a special date like a wedding. Initially, I thought it would be easy to make a portfolio of numbers because I only needed to go up to 31. The triptych for today would read 26 3 22. However, once I began paying attention to house numbers, I realized there were very few house/building numbers under 100! Charlottetown, PEI still has several homes in their downtown core with the low house numbers and their numbers often have that Maritime charisma. Then there is the old city of Quebec that has several house numbers with 1/2. I posted this one for the theme “Numbers” to make you Smile on Saturday!
On Wednesday evenings I often get together with a friend with the intention of learning to sing and play guitars together.
He's on holiday this week and I'm not envious at all ... not one single bit .... well maybe just a little bit.
Well anyway, Tony, if you're reading this, which you almost certainly won't be because you're probably eating donuts and having way too much fun, but if by chance you are then practise, practise, PRACTISE !!!

After a disappointing weekend with no photography, I headed to Boscastle in Cornwall after work last night.
Boscastle is one of my favourites places and having not been there for a while I took decided I was due a revisit.
The village was like a ghost town when I arrived, normally on a summer's evening the place would be packed with tourists and locals sitting outside the local pubs, but due to lockdown the place was like a ghost town. At first, I thought I had the place to myself but as I walked down through the harbour I saw a group of people on the harbour wall. So, I made my way up the cliffs to Penally point and started looking for compositions.
Boscastle is more suited to late Autumn or Winter sunsets if you want the sun in shot but I was happy with the gorgeous side light hitting the Southern cliffs.

Boss
This guy has been hanging around and he seems like a bit of an outcast as he is often alone and doesn't really have a mob to call his own.
He has let me get close to him to take photos even though I don't want to get too close just in case he decides he doesn't want to be friends.
Anyway the other day he did deiced to take back my friend request and as I went to take a photo he came at me.
I basically shit myself and ran back into the safety of the cat yard. I can take a hint.

"The Car with a Conscience"
The Oakland Motor Car Company of Pontiac, Michigan, was an American automobile manufacturer and division of General Motors. Purchased by General Motors in 1909, the company continued to produce modestly priced automobiles until 1931 when the brand was dropped in favor of the division's Pontiac make.
The company was created by Edward Murphy who owned the Pontiac Buggy Company and Alanson Brush who was working as a consultant in Detroit after leaving the Cadillac Motor Company. Oakland Motor Company was named for Oakland County, Michigan, in which it was based.
After one year of production, Oakland's principal founder, Edward Murphy, sold half of the company to William C. Durant's General Motors Corporation in early 1909. When Murphy died in the summer of 1909, GM acquired the remaining rights to Oakland. Within General Motors, Oakland was later slotted as their entry-level brand below the more expensive Oldsmobile, Buick, and Cadillac cars. Conventional four-cylinder engined models were introduced shortly after the GM takeover, and GM didn't acquire the volume-priced Chevrolet until 1917, and Oakland found itself competing with the Ford Model T introduced in October 1908. Once GM assumed operations of Oakland, production was moved to the factory that manufactured Cartercar in Pontiac, Michigan, another Durant acquisition that was cancelled while the resources were newly utilized, and the Oakland Model 40 was introduced. Starting with 1910 Oakland was exclusively offering 4-cylinder flathead engines with five different wheelbases and their advertising slogan was "The Car with a Conscience". By early 1920, however, production and quality control problems began to plague the division. In 1921, under new general manager Fred Hannum, a consistent production schedule was underway and the quality of the cars improved, and Oakland vehicles shared the GM A platform used by Chevrolet. One marketing tactic was the employment of a quick-drying bright blue automotive lacquer by Duco (a DuPont brand product), leading to the slogan "True Blue Oakland Six".
The Oakland was built only in Pontiac, Michigan, which is the county seat of Oakland County. The name antedates any GM association with an automobile manufacturing facility in Oakland, California, that built Chevrolet vehicles before Chevrolet joined GM called Oakland Assembly.

A long time Flickr friend asked for more postings of Tess and Nina - anything for a friend :)
These were taken on an afternoon walk when the ambient temperature, the humidity and the appearance of the always magical winter sun created a wonderful blue ice fog, a relatively rare occurrence that is very difficult to capture with a camera. Although these photos are no substitute for actually being there and experiencing this phenomenon ... at least they satisfy the request to see more of Tess and Nina. Cheers!
An UFO-like water blob is hovering above the surface of a wavy landscape of unknown constitution.
Will it manage a safe landing?
Or will it be absorbed in one gulp by this strange and lively floor?
Nothing is certain...
Alfred was one of the most popular men in town. The best stone mason had to work even on Sunday to finish everything on time. Orders were coming from everywhere - the king himself wanted an oversized bust. There was a request even from a land across the sea - a dragon statue. The most interesting job though was from a guy who said he saw his unborn son in a dream. According to the guy, his son's statue would turn to a live boy. He gave Alfred a detailed sketch and asked him to finish the job as soon as possible. The stone mason was baffled, but part of him was really intrigued, because of something he saw in the man's eyes. So Alfred spent almost all of his time working on that statue, leaving on a side all of his other projects. Now he was waiting for the guy...and for that miracle too.

North American/Canadian Porcupine, Erethizon dorsatum. "The porcupine is the only native North American mammal with antibiotics in its skin. Those antibiotics prevent infection when a porcupine falls out of a tree and is stuck with its own quills upon hitting the ground. Porcupines fall out of trees fairly often because they are highly tempted by the tender buds and twigs at the ends of the branches." -- Wikipedia

On request of Nitro, his friend and former RL neighbour Tutsy agreed to exhibit at Nitroglobus and made the works for Série Noire.
Série noire is a French publishing imprint founded in 1945 by Marcel Duhamel. It has released a collection of crime fiction of the hardboiled detective thrillers variety.
The name became a generic term for works of detective, and is considered having inspired the French critic Nino Frank to create in 1946 the phrase Film Noir, which describes Hollywood crime dramas.
Typical elements are: corrupt police, sympathetic detectives, anxiety, violence, bestial love and inordinate passion. All sentiments which in a civilized society, are supposed to have courses quite exceptionally. But always expressed in an compact academic language which still dominates, in pink or black, humor.
Enjoy the exhibition and wish you a NOIR experiment!

Vautour moine - Aegypius monachus - Cinereous Vulture
(Français + english versions)
---

I am venturing into unfamiliar territory by attempting a brief overview of the topic of vulture tagging and GPS tracking :
Here, you can see a GPS tag attached to the back of this vulture. It allows individuals to be tracked in order to assess the general health of populations, their movements, and certain behaviors, as part of species conservation plans.
This black vulture is also "banded" on its legs, with a color code and an alphanumeric code : www.flickr.com/photos/tostaky2/54794539706/
There is a lot to understand about these methods. It's a subject I discovered this year during an online training course, and it surprised me because I didn't understand its usefulness at first.
In reality, it's part of a species protection approach and is crucial, particularly in supporting requests to politicians who, not being in the field, expect hard data.
These devices have also enabled the rescue of vultures ("Oeil-Rouge” the bearded vulture was rescued twice, if my memory serves me correctly, thanks to its GPS signal, which enabled it to be found when it was in great difficulty).
This also enables cooperation between working groups and volunteers, whether at the national or international level, because birds are not concerned with our administrative borders.
In the event of death, the bird can sometimes be located using GPS, making it possible to determine the cause of death: poaching, collision, predation, disease, etc. This allows us to consider implementing additional measures.
Humans must intervene to protect species that their own species is helping to drive to extinction. It is magnificently tragic.
But since I understood the importance of rings (putting rings on birds' legs in the hope of identifying them later) and GPS tags, as well as tracking, I am totally on board with this, even though, of course, it would be preferable if biodiversity were not in decline and these actions were not necessary.
For my part, animal welfare has been a central cause for me since I was very young, and I am increasingly volunteering my time to tracking and protection initiatives.

……I don’t normally post B&W / Colour options, but seeing as this was requested by Judy I thought I would in this case. Quite often I think we imaging what a picture would look like if processed differently, and can easily imagine it to be better - of course this is a personal taste - many folks are not fans of B&W, I am in pretty much equal measure! So did I make the right choice as B&W?.…….Alan:-)…….
