At the request of my uncle Jim I had to take photos of the large group of relatives watching the world cup. This was after we'd come home from the cottage that afternoon.
My intention was to capture everyone's exact reaction at the moment of something really exciting. So here they all are reacting to Spain scoring a goal.
It's interesting how some people look dramatic and others nonplussed.
Update: I consider this my best photo of 2010, largely due to the dynamics of the scene - how people do or don't react, the timing, the processing and just how it's an accomplished shot of everyone in the same place, all watching something together. They're all unified in their interest in the sport on TV.
Wyoming National Guard soldiers responded to a Feb. 11 request from the governor and Wyoming Homeland Security to mitigate ice-jam induced flooding in Worland and surrounding areas. By Saturday morning, upwards of 50 Guardsmen were working to reinforce berms along the Big Horn River between two overpasses and critical infrastructure near downtown with sandbag-fortified concrete barriers. By Sunday afternoon, with the addition of another 20-man rapid action team (RAT), and as hundreds of community members helped fill sandbags, Guard crews were moving four truckloads of about 200 sandbags an hour out to the berms. Edited photo from latest test of my Super Ikonta C 6x9 (530/2) folding camera. A fogged area was burned in.
This is only the second roll that I've put through it. I tested it when first received almost 2 years ago, and thought the amber film number window was fogging the film. I changed the windows to a dark red, and keep them covered with gaffers tape when not winding (which I try to do in shade). I'm slow to convince, but it is now obvious that there are still leaks in the bellows (proven with a flashlight). This was the least damaged of 8 frames, because I was inside a building when I made the shot.
So, do I try to replace the bellows with a Kodak of similar size, or make one from scratch, possibly in a burgandy or dark maroon? I have some fabric in both colors, or maybe dark blue or the standard black?

Today marks one year since the Colonial Massacre. 47 Allied Race Alliance colonies were destroyed. The death toll marked over several million. I built a memorial for myself considering the ARA is too busy fighting a war. A war I wish I was never involved in. It cost me the one thing I loved most. I will never get him back.
My old partner from the ARA stopped by and demanded I come back to them. She said it was dire. The ARA found the men responsible for the Colonial Massacre. The bastards are a rebel group known as Infernus. She said they had been operating for awhile now, but only now they chose strike while the ARA was in the midst of a civil, as I said. Reluctantly I took her offer only swearing to kill the men responsible for the massacre. I will make them suffer

The lady who purchased my mermaid quilt requested a custom matching sham and throw pillow. I gave her 4 options for each one, but she wanted to keep it pretty simple. I'd never made a sham before, but I just used one of my own as a guideline. I think I need to add some ties on the back because I don't feel the envelope closure is quite enough for a pillow this size.
This picture was sent on to the WSPA emergency relief team, by a photographer who is in Haiti, who said "While taking pictures of the devastation in Haiti, I saw this group of children - camped on the pavement with no home to go back to, they represent the harsh reality that Haitians are faced with. But as the dog cheekily forced his way into the frame, the children burst out laughing - and I realized how these simple pleasures are part of their reality too!"
The Government of Haiti has requested immediate assistance from the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) to help with the emergency relief operation. WSPA and the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) are leading a group of animal welfare organizations called the Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti (ARCH) and will arrive in Haiti to do an assessment on January 23.

In July I was requested to photograph Haulmark Trailers' new facility in the Darwin suburb of Wishart for Sitzler and Australian Defence Magazine (ADM). The initial brief required a daylight shoot to meet ADM's requirements.
After completing the daylight shoot I couldn't help but return at sunset to shoot the building at dusk.
After submitting a selection of photos from the day and dusk shoots I was glad to see this photo selected by the editors.

We celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied and multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.
We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography.
