These are costume rendering sketches from my past- most were drawn 20 to 30 years ago for classes or shows.
This was a class project- we were told to design costumes that matched the names of the characters, which were upon the names of animals. "Volpone" means "fox," and I made the character (drawn here to look a bit like Zero Mostel), is dressed in a robe to look like a fox.
These are costume rendering sketches from my past- most were drawn 20 to 30 years ago for classes or shows.
These sketches are among my favorites, though they were a class exercise and never got made. In the play, the lead character, M. Jourdain, aspires to leave his middle class and become friends with nobility. Cléonte, who is in love with M Jourdain's daughter, with the assistance of his valet Covielle, disguises himself and presents himself to Jourdain as the son of the Sultan of Turkey. Needless to say, M. Jourdain is taken in and consents with delight to have his daughter marry foreign royalty. He is even more delighted when the "Turkish prince" informs him that, as father of the bride, he too will be officially enobled at a special ceremony. The last scene of the play presents this ridiculous ceremony, full of mock-Turkish mumbo-jumbo. This costume is for Cléonte when he pretneds to be the Turkish prince.

This was a graduate school project to design every aspect of a show, from sets, lights and costumes to blocking and directing. I chose a favorite play, "Private Lives." The action concerns a divorced couple, Amanda and Elyot, both recently remarried, who accidentally book adjoining suites at the same hotel for their honeymoons. The play centers on the two leads and their agonising realisation that they still care for each other. This was the lounging ensemble for Amanda in Act 2.

Rahi Varsani, a student from The University of Western Australia (UWA) studying Nanotechnology, recently completed his Honours project at the Centre for Microscopy, Characterisation and Analysis (CMCA) investigating nanomaterials using electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) and energy-filtered transmission electron microscopy (EFTEM). The project was carried out under the supervision of Prof. Martin Saunders (CMCA) and in collaboration with the research group of Prof. Hui Tong Chua (Mechanical Engineering).
Part of his research included the 3D tomographic reconstruction of elemental distributions from a tilt-series of EFTEM element maps, which he used to characterise metal nanoparticles encased in carbon.

In macroeconomics, the guns versus butter model is a simple example of the production possibility frontier. It models the relationship between a nation's investment in defense and civilian goods. In this model, a nation has to choose between two options when spending its finite resources. It can buy either guns (invest in defense/military) or butter (invest in production of goods), or a combination of both. This can be seen as an analogy for choices between defense and civilian spending in more complex economies.
In this composition located in Atlanta Georgia, each of the tomahawk missles were inscribed with social expenditures equal to the cost of the weapon.
