An artist’s rendering shows the 89,000-square-foot School of Nursing facilities, left and top, and 37,000-square-foot Harrison School of Pharmacy’s Pharmaceutical Research Building, right, which are being built in the university’s new Health Sciences Sector. The School of Nursing facility is scheduled to open for the fall 2017 semester. The Pharmaceutical Research Building is scheduled to open in late spring 2017.

Got my snail-generator to export a file format that can be directly imported into Blender, the industry standard GUI for 3D rendering. Development can go faster now, as the built-in renderer yields results in seconds, rather than the hours or days required for ray-tracing.

Images taken inside the human body enable us to better understand human anatomy, facilitate medical teaching as well as the planning of surgical procedures, and also make for better doctor-patient communication. These images are produced by techniques such as computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Cinematic Rendering software developed by Siemens Healthineers is based on techniques used in the animated film industry; thus, its aim is to generate, on the basis of data delivered by CT and MRI scans, depictions that are as photorealistic as a Hollywood blockbuster! And that explains the reference to the movies in its name. In 2017, Cinematic Rendering was nominated for the German Future Prize.

Head-tail breaks process
[a] create the next elevation break at the arithmetic mean elevation of all points
[b] discard points less than this elevation
[c] repeat from [a] until the range is too small to subdivide
[d] use successive elevation breaks in the colour scheme
As you can see, it tends to play down lower elevations, and is good for highlighting the highest peaks.
Used a short Python script to generate the elevation bands, using Python and GDAL. I manually tweaked the elevation bands in QGIS from the output of the script
