This past August I attended a solemn service at the location of a lynching that occurred here back in 1905. This local memorial was the efforts of a community, with the support of the Equal Justice Initiative, the Forward Together Coalition and local organizations such as the Historical Society and the Arts Council, to name but a few.
Depicted in my painting is the collection of soil at the location, destined to become a part of an already existing large display of 100's of soil samples from all parts of the US at the Legacy Museum in Montgomery Alabama. Historically, there are over 4400 documented lynchings in the US - most victims of racial terrorism are not otherwise recognized.
Well, it's been a while, but, I dun dunnit. I wrote me another Country song. lol As always, what I lack in talent, I more than make up for in complete absence of creativity. LOL I'm kinda the grey and white bits in a kaleidoscope. Not unlike this photograph.
Remember Promises
Do you remember when your promises
Gave me life to face the day?
And, all you really had to say
Was, “I believe in you”
Do you remember when your promises
Blest my day, and sped the night?
Your smile, the fires of love ignite
Yeah, I believe in you
Through the pages of years
Through the storms of tears
Over hills that seemed insurmountable
Valleys deep and yawning
Future, dark and daunting
Our love remains, incontrovertible
Thank God for promises
Yeah
Thank God for promises
Yeah
Do you remember when your promises
Gave me life to face the day?
And, all you really had to say
Was, “I believe in you”
Do you remember when your promises
Blest my day, and sped the night?
Your smile, the fires of love ignite
Yeah, I believe in you
When I look in your eyes
What I see there clarifies
All the love for me, unmistakable
I know that you can feel,
My love for you is real
It’s steadfast, and it’s unshakable
Thank God for promises
Yeah
Thank God for promises
Yeah

Remember me when the candle lights're gleaming
Remember me at the close of a long long day
It would be so sweet when all alone I'm dreaming
Just to know you still remember me.

Especially the warm sunny rays; it's freezing in North Texas, the polar vortex got all the way down here.

As I wait for the road to the summit of Pikes Peak to reopen, I've been looking back over some of the images I took through 2023. So, here is a series of re-imagined shots from last year.
Watching the Lancaster flypast here at Sheringham's 40's weekend. I thought we should remember those that didn't return.
So with maybe a little artistic license. 🤔

A day along the coast led me and my meetup group to a location I have longed to explore. Turns out that at low tide it is magical.
In Remembrance of those who died ....and for those who still serve to defend us ...
THANK YOU -EXPLORED at 494 briefly !
I've hear a lot of hard luck stories in the past 36 hours. Random interactions with cabbies and short order cooks. People out of jobs, down on their luck, and low on faith. This guy, who mumbled "canyouspare" with such a thick Indian accent that it sounded like a ritual chant, stopped me in my tracks. When he saw me with the camera he stopped his lilting repetitions and shouted, "TAKE MY PICTURE!" Loud. So loud people -- New Yorkers -- up & down the block stopped and held their breath for a second. I stared at him, trying to determine whether he meant to stick a "DON'T" in front of that order. And then he said, "I just want to be remembered. Take it."
And I gave him the change in my pocket.
Explored!
Life underfoot. Usually unnoticed.
So much talent has passed through the Universe, will the Universe remember?
Or just pass by unnoticed?
