A beautiful clear day in the Mt Rainier National Park. A little too much of a breeze for a clear reflection.
Mt. Rainier is reflecting on the Medley of Nature's Wonders. Mt Rainier also shines bright as is illuminated by a touch of The Airglow, The Milky Way Galaxy and countless still and shooting stars, what a sight.

I bet there are much better pictures of this lake ... I just arrived too late (you have to wake up veeery early to get a better shot) But it still was so pretty !!
Mount Rainier, also known as Tahoma or Tacoma, is a large active stratovolcano located 59 miles south-southeast of Seattle, in the Mount Rainier National Park.
The majestic Aoraki (Mount Cook) reflected in calm waters of Hooker Lake at Mount Cook National Park, New Zealand.
It was an overcast morning when we arrived here. The Mount Cook was obscured behind a thick layer of cloud. Undaunted, we proceed to setup a time lapse and halfway through, the cloud dissipated, revealing the tallest mountain in NZ in its glory, basking in the morning's golden light.
What an awesome sight!

I recently went up to Mt. Rainier this past weekend and I really decided to focus on the more intimate side of the mountain. The shooting conditions were challenging but I'm really happy with the images I was able to come away with! Hope you enjoy them.
During my last visit to Mt.Rainier National Park, the weather was not ideal in terms of photographing Mt.Rainier itself because heavy mist completely blocked any view of Mt.Rainier with rain showers every now and then. So instead of doing any hikes, we stopped by the famous and easy-to-access Reflection Lake, and I took some time-lapses of the mist rolling in and out, as well as this photo which turned out to be my favorite of the trip. The scene was so peaceful with woods and mists reflecting in the lake.
Tonight we will be heading over to the Ed Sheeran concert in Seattle. Walter is overjoyed at the thought of standing among thousands of screaming teens! I am so thankful to have found a man that lays down his macho pride just to see me smile. "Thinking Out Loud" is my favorite song of Ed's and hopefully I can get Walter to grant me a dance. I fully intend to come into work Monday with no voice :) Have fun this weekend peeps!

Hope everyone is enjoying their Summer. It has finally arrived here in the Pacific Northwest. So I had a "Wild Hair" yesterday and was going to try and race to the Sunrise area on Mt Rainier for sunset. Well that did not happen, although the sunset was quite spectacular without my participation! So with sunset a bust and not wanting to drive back home (essentially a two hour drive one way). What is an unlucky photographer to do?
After not much discussion in my head, I decided to "Car Camp" at Reflection Lakes and shoot the mountain in the waning moon light. So I tried all sorts of exposures, apertures and combination of illuminating the wild flowers with my headlamp. So the final result is above.
This is one RAW image processed in Lightroom. I shot with my aperture set at f/3.5 for 30 seconds. I set my White Balance to the florescent setting which cools the image down. I adjusted the clarity, sharpening and vibrance in Lightroom.
So yes, I have been extremely busy working and getting images ready for the Snoqualmie Railroad Days August 17-19th. I will now also have some of my work displayed this weekend for the Mt Si Festival, which is celebrated by both towns of North Bend and Snoqualmie. I also inquired into having some of my work featured in rotating exhibits at the Snoqualmie Visitor's Center and the City Hall. Working on getting some of my pictures of the Snoqualmie Falls and the local train depots printed. Should have those prints up after Snoqualmie Railroad Days.
Thank you so much for your support, views, comments and faves. I truly am trying to get around to your inspiring photostreams.

Reflection Lake is located east of Ketchikan, AK. My 104 year-old grandmothter-in-law loved this image; she said it was so peaceful. When I took the shot, arctic loons were calling off in the distance, hidden by the fog. It was indeed, a peaceful scene.

Life is crazy, busy, these days....I miss my Flickr friends :) I keep saying I need to catch up with everyone, but it hasn't happened yet....soon I hope :) I hope everyone is well.
This view has been photographed probably a million times - Mount Rainier as seen from reflection lake in Mount Rainier national park.
With a height of 4392m, Mount Rainier is the highest of the five volcanoes in Washington state, and also the highest mountain in the entire Cascades.
We were lucky enough to get two days of sunshine while visting this famous national park, enjoying all kinds of wonderful views on Mount Rainier.
One of the must-go site in the National Park. The reflection of the great mountain in the lake is crystal clear throughout the year. However, comparing to my last visit a year ago, the water level of the lake seems to have dropped significantly. With some snow, the scene looks just amazing.
Dug into the archive to find this photo of Reflection Lake in Mount Rainier National Park taken on a mini-vation in 2015. Feeling like I need to get back there soon!
Holding the light for the rising moon, Mt. Rainier's Reflection Lake. Andromeda Galaxy is in the upper right.
Staying the night in the Paradise Inn lodge and from there it's a 10 min drive to Reflection Lakes. Stood here first around 5:15am but soon other photographers were joining me but also millions of mosquitos who probably thought that photographers were good enough for a decent breakfast.
A great view when the sun came out, no wind, perfect reflection.
Enjoy...

This is a rework of an older image I shot at Reflection Lake, Mount Rainier, Washington state, USA. It was taken shortly after sunrise, the shadows were still fairly deep. One of my favorite places!

To create this image, I combined 5 bracketed exposures from Lightroom using Photomatix's "merge to 32 bit" plugin. The resulting 32 bit image is then automatically imported back into Lightroom for further processing. It's HDR but without traditional tonemapping that can lead to bad halos and a lot of cleanup work. I believe I also hit it with Topaz's new Restyle plugin. I think. ;) It's been a long day.

Third time is the charm? I tried to go to Mt Rainier twice when I came to the Seattle area in prior years, but the first time, it was too early in the season and everything was still closed. Second time, I was going to visit before a business trip but I ended up missing my flight. Now, this year, on my family vacation, I got to experience why Rainier is so beautiful and why this lake particularly is so iconic.
You could argue it's overshot at sunrise (it is). You can also it's hard to be original at the lake since the compositions are limited (it is). And you can thirdly argue that every morning is rolling dice - sometimes the Rainier gets bathed in golden light, other days the clouds catch color, sometimes it's too foggy to see anything, etc. But at least for me this time, I got some pretty good pre-dawn fireworks, which I'll take.
I enjoyed the scene and just wanted to take it all in. Rolling fog, skyfire in the clouds, soft golden peak (not shown in this picture) and a patch of grass to break up the foreground. Can't ask for much more from this iconic location.

The pre-dawn hour of sometime after 4:00 a.m. was pretty much the only time I could actually see Mount Rainier totally, with the light from a waning moon behind me. By the time the sun rose, the smoke from wildfires in CA and OR was rolling in.
On a side note, while I do love my Canons, I readily admit that the noise issue with the 5DS and 5DSR is horrendous. I probably should have used my Sonys instead except manually focusing in the dark with a mirrorless lens is a different kettle of fish than manual focusing with a DSLR lens.
Karping aside, I am pleased with the results of my pre-dawn images.

I woke up 4:30 in the morning to catch the early morning light at Mount Rainier in Washington. Then this deer passed by that I was caught by surprise that I only was able to do a quick composition. Also, my camera wasn't set up right. and only able to increase ISO.

Captured in the early calm, Lake Matheson lives up to its reputation as New Zealand’s most reflective lake. Snow-capped peaks, lush native bush, and a mirror-like surface come together to create a postcard-perfect scene. A moment of nature’s quiet perfection, where sky and earth blur into one.
