It sure feels like fall is coming early this year to Alaska. The leaves are already turning colors at Reflection Lake.
Reflection Lake, Paradise, Mt Rainier National Park. Landscape orientation of my earlier post "The Clearing". Rainier's beauty really comes out during sunrise. The cloud/fog still blankets the mountain view, but never to worry, the reflection helps bring it out. Image - single exposure, no filters. Thanks for viewing!
Mount Rainier reflects in this area of the lake which is shallower and calmer than the main lake. This is in Mount Rainier National Park in Washington State.
A short while after sunrise the sun lights up Mt Rainier at reflection lakes.
In the summer the reflection lakes area is one of the busiest tourist areas at Mt Rainier. The Stevens Canyon road runs right past the lakes and busloads of tourists get off here to snap pictures of Mt Rainier and hike around the lake.
In the winter the road closes so access is via a couple mile snowshoe. The road is a gentle grade down to the lakes and makes for a nice safe beginner snowshoe route.

Currently wishing that we still had this wonderful fall foliage and warm weather at Reflections Lake outside of Palmer, Alaska.

Sunrise at Reflection Lake at Mt. Rainier National Park.
I'm back to working on my Mt. Rainier photos in hopes of getting most of them done before going back up to stay at stonecreeklodge.net for a couple of nights and shooting more of this stunningly beautiful mountain.
Many of the photos won't be visible to everyone but I'll post a few here and there, just like I just did. I can't resist posting cute deer shots.
Wasn't a reflection this day. Enjoyed Mt Ranier National Park. Has some great waterfalls and the mountains are beautiful. Was surprise at the amount of snow on the mountain.
thanks for looking
The glaciers atop Mt. Rainier are painted in a soft pink and magenta during the Blue Hour. It was so quiet, and so peaceful standing there that morning.
Narada Falls is a large waterfall easily accessible in the popular Paradise area of Mt. Rainier National Park.

The winds died down right at sunset to let this reflection show. The clouds also broke right at sunset to give this nice color you see here....Earlier in the day when I was driving up, you could not even see the mountain and at one time it was raining at the lodge that afternoon....

One of the most iconic view of Mount Rainier can be found in reflection lake. The view is breathtaking during summer with all the wildflowers around.
Back in October I was cruising around Mount Rainier National Park. It was nice and sunny and I thought Reflection Lake would be a good stop. I hadn't been there in a while so I headed up through the Paradise Visitor's Center but the road across the valley to Reflection Lake was closed. Luckily I caught a Ranger just as he was leaving for the day and found out the lower road was open. Thanks Mr. Ranger!
This was an early morning before I had to leave this beautiful national park and head off to Walla Walla to enjoy some good wines :-)
Here I used a Darken Top & Bottom CEP 4 recipe for the final image.
Sunrise reflection on Reflection Lakes in Mount Rainier National Park. The best color was just before the sun broke the horizon. The colors were so intense, they didn't need any help in editing.
This is a composite exercise: Reflection Lake at Mount Rainier national park. Mount Rainier somewhere in the clouds. We never saw it. I added the deer from another image trying out some cool new tools in LR and PS . I made the snow from scratch
I took this shot from Reflection Lake in Mount Rainier National Park last weekend. Some friends of ours from Kansas City were in town and we decided to head out to the mountain. The weather couldn't have been better (not a cloud in the sky and warm). When I was there about a month ago, this was shot I wanted to get but the clouds weren't cooperating that day.

Reflection Lake, Mount Rainier National Park.
I took a chance this morning on running down to Mt. Rainier to see what i could capture at Reflection Lake. I left home at 1:30 am and arrived just as the sky was turning this scene into this spectacular vision. My photo cannot do justice to the beauty of this special place.
Potentilla flabellifolia, whose common names include fanleaf cinquefoil, high mountain cinquefoil, fringe leaf cinquefoil, and Mount Rainier cinquefoil, blooms in a meadow along Reflection Lake in Mountain Rainier National Park, Washington, USA.
A partial reflection on Mount Rainier can be seen in a small, quiet pond on the margins of Reflection Lake in Mount Rainier National Park, Washington. The wind is blowing too much for a good reflection on the Lake itself.

Another one of those sleepless nights saw me heading out for sunrise at 2:00am! Good thing I left when I did as I had to drive the EXTREME long way around just to get to Paradise by sunrise! I almost missed this light show this morning.
They are doing some roadwork on Steven's Canyon Road, so you cannot get to Paradise from the east. You must come in from the west, from the Longmire side! Well I had to drive all of the way around through Packwood and Mineral! Talk about a marathon drive. I am just glad with all of the hiccups, I still made it to Reflection Lakes for sunrise.
The mosquitoes were definitely out in squadrons this morning. Fortunately I was bundled up with long pants and long sleeve shirt. I sprayed my face, neck and hands with the Off repellant, and for the most part I escaped serious bitage! There were quite a few other fellow photographers that were out this morning and they all had their various means of protecting themselves! We all were scrambling for our different spots where all of the "Pretty" flowers were! I was running all over the place trying to find a nice clump together. One fellow photographer struck the mother lode, but it required him to lay on his back to set up his tripod!
I did not have to lay on the ground, just sit on it for this image which is comprised of three exposures (-2,0,+2) merged and tonemapped in Photomatix. I then did some burning of the shadows in the foreground, removed a couple of dust spots, and ran through Topaz Adjust to bring back some of the detail. Added a bit more contrast and clarity in Lightroom, then added a slight vignette.
Thank you for your views, comments and faves. I appreciate them. I walked around Paradise, and really looks like it may be about another week and more flowers will be open. There are a lot of lupine blooming, but the Indian Paintbrush still have a little more to go. I only spotted one Avalanche Lily that was still blooming. The time for those is pretty much past. So that is the Paradise wildflower report. Will be watching some of my fellow Flickr friends posts and expecting wildflower updates! Just to think that the lake looked like this back on July 10th: www.flickr.com/photos/fresnatic/5925876281/

Watching the fog swirl around and rise up on this beautiful lake was so unimaginably peaceful. Photographs can't really do it justice. Sometimes you just get lucky. Happy Monday:)
The stately Mt Rainier reflects in Reflection Lake during a late-summer sunset.
No matter how beautiful its surroundings (and they are beautiful--I'm not sure this photo or any photo really do it justice), I can't help but feel like Rainier is a brooding, somewhat malignant presence. This giant has incredible power.
This is a somewhat tight crop from a 5-frame panorama shot in portrait orientation.
It is hard to convey the overwhelming sense of peace that envelops you as you glide your canoe across Emerald Lake.
This is one of those places you just have to see in person...feel the wind against your face, hear the rippling of the water against your paddle...it is magical.

On our way to the trail we planned to hike in the Mount Rainier National Park, we stopped briefly at the Reflection Lakes. This park always has some nice surprises for us, especially during the morning hours!
During my last trip to Mount Rainier National Park in late May a few years back, Reflection Lakes had quite a few feet of snow all around, so there were no reflections. Needless to say, I was very excited to have the chance to see you Reflection Lakes again in September. I was looking forward to taking in a view of those calm waters with the reflections of Mount Rainier off in the distance. So I stood near the lake shore and soaked in this view of nature's wildness...
After the last shot, I shouldered my bag and hurried down the mountain. I wanted to make it to Tipsoo Lake for sunrise. By the time I got back to the car there was no wind, and most of the clouds had disappeared. Reflection Lake was like glass. I was in a hurry, but I knew I’d regret it if I didn’t get at least one shot. I've never seen the lake this calm before. I ran down to the shore. I was tempted to stay here and shoot sunrise, or maybe shoot a little here and then hike to Bench Lake, but my mind was made up. I just grabbed a couple quick shots.

The reflection of Mount Rainier is tightly framed amidst evergreens and colorful fall foliage in this shot at Reflection Lakes in Mount Rainier National Park.
Mount Rainier National Park
Von hier aus soll man einen guten Blick auf den Gipfel des Mount Rainier haben, wenn er denn zu sehen ist.
From here you should have a good view of the summit of Mount Rainier, if it can be seen.
The more and more I planned for hikes in Mount Rainier National Park, the more I came across fellow photographers who had seen different points and taken image captures there. On this 500px site (500px.com/photo/117077781/bench-lake-early-morning-by-erw...), he took images of glass like reflections with Mount Rainier. That's what I wanted to capture while at Reflection Lakes. Thankfully, the winds were calm even into the early afternoon that late September day. It was a beautiful Autumn day in Washington!
