I spent two days, rather nights at Mt Rainier NP. I tried to get star trails. It wasn't so easy with many cars running around. I was lucky there was no one around for about 30 minutes. The second problem was moisture. I tried to make one more shot but the lens fogged up.

That is one shot with f/2.8. ISO 100, exp 1688

Change in the weather is coming. Reflection Lakes sunrise, Mt. Rainier National Park.

A nice little sunrise at Lake McDonald, Glacier National Park.

Wishing everyone a great weekend!

Thanks for looking.

I intended to call this drive by shooting, but Christie begged otherwise. ')

My happy place revisited, my best shot here by far and I have a lot of them. Dawn broke quietly this day and I had the place to myself. It was so silent I could hear it as I tip toed about searching for the best spot, all of them came out great, but my daughter said she wanted this one on her wall so I'll post it. Turn the ac on to about 48 degrees F, put on some noise cancelling earphones, imagine the crunching of frosty grass and blow this up...... yeah, it's like that..... :-)

Bliss!

Thanks for taking a look!

This was one of those mornings when I rushed from my cozy cabin at the base of Mt. Rainier, up to Reflection Lakes, arriving just as the sun hit the mountain peaks. You've never seen someone set up a camera and tripod so fast, and have to run back to the car for the cable. My rushing was worth it and this lasted for a very short time before the color went away and ripples started across the water.

This was taken on the day the mountain pelted me with hail and monsoon rain all the way back down. One would think I would have looked at the sky in this and left then, but no..... :-) Reflection Lake, Mount Rainier National Park. Washington State, USA.

While walking along the shores of Reflection Lake and the namesake loop trail. The view is looking to the north-northwest across the lake waters with an evergreen forest on the far shoreline as a distant backdrop. This is located in Lassen Volcanic National Park. In composing this image, I took advantage of the opening of trees along this section of the trail. I decided to angle my Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Camera slightly downward and bring the horizon a little higher into the image. I wanted to bring out more of a sweeping view looking across the nearby grassy meadow and lake waters.

I chose to work with Aurora HDR Pro to better bring that complete color setting in the image. I later exported a TIFF image to DxO PhotoLab 8 where I did some final adjustments with contrast, saturation and brightness for the final image.

Golden hour at Reflection Lakes, Mount Rainier National Park, Washington

The vibrance of memory fades too fast,

like the fleeting glow of golden summer sunset light…

I was over where that family is when I realized that there is snow on the ground and leave no trace etiquette says that I can walk on snow so...... Here is a view of the Tatoosh Range, specifically Pinnacle and Castle Peaks, one doesn't normally get from across the largest of the Reflection Lakes. I was pretty giddy to be someplace that I'd not been yet in the park. :)

This is now my fave shot of Reflection Lake and it was an accident. I was quickly moving from one spot to another to get said reflections when I glanced over upon coming to a clearing. ERRRK!!!

A breezy day in Mount Rainer National Park, Washington results in no reflection on Reflection Lake. This image created by stitching 2 images together.

Beautiful Reflection Lakes in Mt. Rainier National Park, in a wildfire sunrise, September, 2025. The views around this lake abound and I tried to make lemonade here, with views of the big mountain obscured by the smoke.

Mt. Rainier, called the Queen of the Cascades. Wish I looked this good in the morning.

Taken at Reflection Lakes, Mt. Rainier National Park, September, 2025.

So many of the best things, all in one place. That place is Mount Rainier National Park.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend, wherever in the world you might be.

This was taken before the sun began its rise this morning. The light in the left corner is the light glow from the greater Seattle area. On the mountain itself one can see the headlamps of climbers heading to the summit. Another group of climbers just disappeared from view in the clouds to the right of the lights one can see here.

This was taken at 3200 ISO for about 15 seconds.

Puffy clouds were trying to hide Mt. Rainier from view.

This night image was taken while rangers were helping hikers to get off the forest, so there was a lot of ambient light. Though it was very dark at the lake.

For this shot I used the following settings : f/3.2, ISO 64, at 432 sec.

A Canada jay ( Perisoreus canadensis) perches on a branch near Reflection Lake in Mount Rainier National Park, Washington, USA. These birds are common in the Rocky Mountains, Cascades and other western mountains. They are also known as camp robbers, whiskey jacks; gray jays and several other names.

I went to Reflection Lakes (Mt Rainier National Park) to photograph Mt Rainier by moonlight only. We arrived a bit early and found this lovely scene before us. I was drawn to the shadow cast off of the peak immediately. It's a 2 shot, vertical panoramic because my 50mm lens was not wide enough. I also increased the size a bit in PS using the crop tool and AI fill. Have you tried that? It is so easy to add a bit to the canvas on a tightly cropped image.

Thank you for your warm and kind visits, my dear flickr friends. I appreciate you all very much! 💙

A clear morning with Mt. Rainier mirrored in Reflection Lake. Some mixed wildflowers added nicely to this beautiful setting and moment. Lots of smiles this morn.

"Mount Rainier National Park was established in 1899, 17 years before the National Park Service was created in 1916. John Muir, famous naturalist and preservationist, and Bailey Willis, a U.S. Geological Survey worker, led the charge to designate Mount Rainier a national park because of its unique beauty.

John Muir called Rainier "the most luxuriant and the most extravagantly beautiful of all the alpine gardens I ever beheld in all my mountain-top wanderings" doi.gov

Thanks for taking a look. Always appreciated!

Father-Daughter day on Mount Rainier, our first hike together and I take her to Plummer Peak. Nice easy trail, but it just goes UP. That's Reflection Lake center right and where Gertrude is parked. to the right is Pinnacle Peak. As you stand here you can hear rocks falling down the mountainside. (for a long time....)

Plummer and Pinnacle are a part of the Tatoosh Mountain Range on Mount Rainier, without a doubt the most recognizable features in the park and a great place to spend the day.

The glaciers on the south side of Mount Rainier are clearly visible in this close-up view from Reflection Lake. Mount Rainier has 28 named glaciers, along with numerous unnamed snowfields, making it the most heavily glaciated peak in the contiguous United States.

It was a wild lenticular cloud day at Reflection Lakes in Mt Rainier National Park in 2016. At times it was closer to Mt. Rainier which is just to the left in this photo.

It's a 3 shot HDR, all raw and natural merged in Lightroom which tamed the contrast. I did that quite a bit a couple of years ago but now... not so much. The DR of our camera sensors is amazing and a single shot will usually do the trick if you push the exposure to the right on the histogram.

Nik's Tonal Contrast brought more detail into the cloud area, selected with a Control Point. Also there were some nasty weeds sticking up in the bottom that the Healing Brush in PS took care of. That tool alone is worth the monthly subscription for the Adobe package for me. The vertical perspective was straightened (camera was looking down) using Transform in Lr.

Wishing our friends a great autumn season. Thanks for stopping by and for your warm comments! <3

Dark starry night over Mt. Rainier from Reflection Lake. Is it fall yet? Not that I have any big trips planned but I did see a few trees changing color while in Aberdeen the week before last. Happy Monday folks.

to amaze me. Each time i spend time at Reflection Lakes at Mt. Rainier i am in awe. I have been there for sun rises, star photos, and sun sets. Each and every one offers something incredible - be it sublime colors, dramatic clouds, blazing sun sets/rises, climber headlights on the peak in darkness. Even if i happen to arrive and nothing spectacular occurs for photography i still get a charge out of just being there.

Spectacular display of light on reflection lake. So excited it is Friday!

Twice a year, on a few days, the sun sinks on the opposite shore of the elongated lake. This means that the warm colors of the sunset are reflected throughout the lake. However, the mountains prevent it from "sinking" completely into the lake.

The calm lake level made it possible to stand a bit in the water and hold the camera close above the surface to enhance the effect a bit more.

The picture was taken close above the water. In the foreground, the waves spread out in circles around the points where a stone has been thrown across and touched the surface.

Thanks for your criticism and as always, favs, likes and comments are gratefully appreciated!

Mt. Rainier early morning reflection on Reflection Lake.

The sun breaks the horizon and shines a little light on the trees and marshy grasses near Reflection Lakes in Mt. Rainier National Park. I challenge myself to look around for unique compositions, and to not always focus on the obvious ones. In this case, Mt. Rainier was right behind me, and every other camera on the lake shore that morning was pointed that direction.

Here is a photo of Mount Rainier and a meteor, with their reflections on the water. Also included is the Andromeda Galaxy.

While setting up at the Reflection Lakes to get some pix of the Perseid Meteor Shower, I happened to get this photo. While I think it's nice photo, I don't think I accomplished the task at hand.

The meteor in this photo does not appear to emanate from the radiant in the Perseus constellation, so I honestly do not know if this meteor is considered to be a true Perseid. If there are any knowledgeable viewers that might be able to provide some info on the subject, please feel free to comment.

In any case I like the pic, and enjoyed capturing it. The reflection of the meteor appears rippled in the water due to some underwater vegetation that is so tall that some of the blades of the plants float at the waters surface.

This was my last morning in Mount Rainier National Park. When I was wandering around and taking in a few moments around the Paradise Inn area, I noticed there wasn't much of a breeze or wind blowing. It led me to wonder if there might also be calm waters around Reflection Lakes. Most definitely! I was giddy with the view and setting. That's what I wanted to capture with this image. A beautiful, serene, calm morning setting in Mount Rainier National Park. What a morning and last view of Mount Rainier before heading out to Walla Walla for some wine tasting! For the final image, I used an Open Shade CEP 4.0 recipe.

Mt Rainier National Park is one huge place with some great lakes and waterfalls.

Here is one of a number waterfall shots I took during my August 13-18, 2014 photo adventure there.

Back in 2014 when i was still young enough to drag myself out of bed at 1 am and drive for 2-1/2 hours to take a picture, i did :^)

The drive to Reflection Lakes at Mt. Rainier was uneventful. I wasted little time in a rush to arrive when i needed to arrive and be ready for the sunrise i hoped would be a beauty.

I pulled into the parking space and managed to get set up just as the sun was reflecting under the clouds and slowly changing the gray darkness into this spectacular morning show. I had some difficulty trying to decide whether to take a picture or just stare in awe as this scene unfolded.

Those 1 am days are behind me now but that is how it goes. I am still moving and still capable, still wandering about with a camera, looking for beauty and adventure. Just not at 1 am.

This is a re-edit of previously posted image. My processing skills have improved somewhat, i think.

I was standing with my tripod at Reflection Lakes in Mount Rainier National Park, not too far from another couple of photographers who apparently were either at this spot or near it. I overheard one say to the other "There's the calendar shot!" After they left, I was picking up to head back to the vehicle when I looked over and saw this view. Yup, a calendar shot if there ever was one.

Couldn't have asked for a better scene of this iconic lake in Mount Rainier National Park. This was taken just before sunset. The colors of the vegetation were vibrant — and those clouds!
