This is a great lump of sandstone, formed about 135 million years ago when this part of the world was a swampy mess. This large rock is called the Chiding Stone, because (so they say) nagging wives and other wrong-doers were brought here and rebuked â or chided â by the massed villagers. An early form of trial by social media. Regrettably â no one knows whether it is true, or not.
Gloucester Cathedral, formally the Cathedral Church of St Peter and the Holy and Indivisible Trinity, in Gloucester, England, stands in the north of the city near the River Severn. It originated in 678 or 679 with the foundation of an abbey dedicated to Saint Peter (dissolved by King Henry VIII).
Wardle records that in 1058 Ealdred, Bishop of Worcester at the time, rebuilt the church of St Peter. The foundations of the present church were laid by Abbot Serlo (1072â1104). Walter Frocester (d. 1412) the abbey's historian, became its first mitred abbot in 1381. Until 1541, Gloucester lay in the see of Worcester, but the separate see was then constituted, with John Wakeman, last abbot of Tewkesbury, as its first bishop. The diocese covers the greater part of Gloucestershire, with small parts of Herefordshire and Wiltshire. The cathedral has a stained glass window containing the earliest images of golf. This dates from 1350, over 300 years earlier than the earliest image of golf from Scotland. There is also a carved image of people playing a ball game, believed by some to be one of the earliest images of medieval football.
The cathedral, built as the abbey church, consists of a Norman nucleus (Walter de Lacy is buried there), with additions in every style of Gothic architecture. It is 420 feet (130 m) long, and 144 feet (44 m) wide, with a fine central tower of the 15th century rising to the height of 225 ft (69 m) and topped by four delicate pinnacles, a famous landmark. The nave is massive Norman with an Early English roof; the crypt, under the choir, aisles and chapels, is Norman, as is the chapter house. The crypt is one of the four apsidal cathedral crypts in England, the others being at Worcester, Winchester and Canterbury.
The south porch is in the Perpendicular style, with a fan-vaulted roof, as also is the north transept, the south being transitional Decorated Gothic. The choir has Perpendicular tracery over Norman work, with an apsidal chapel on each side: the choir vaulting is particularly rich. The late Decorated east window is partly filled with surviving medieval stained glass. Between the apsidal chapels is a cross Lady chapel, and north of the nave are the cloisters, the carrels or stalls for the monks' study and writing lying to the south. The cloisters at Gloucester are the earliest surviving fan vaults, having been designed between 1351 and 1377 by Thomas de Canterbury.
The most notable monument is the canopied shrine of King Edward II of England who was murdered at nearby Berkeley Castle (illustration below). The building and sanctuary were enriched by the visits of pilgrims to this shrine. In a side-chapel is a monument in coloured bog oak of Robert Curthose, eldest son of William the Conqueror and a great benefactor of the abbey, who was interred there. Monuments of Bishop Warburton and Dr Edward Jenner are also worthy of note.
Between 1873 and 1890, and in 1897, the cathedral was extensively restored by George Gilbert Scott. In September 2016 Gloucester Cathedral joined the Church of Englandâs âShrinking the Footprintâ campaign. The aim of this campaign is to reduce The Church of Englandâs carbon emissions collectively, by 80%. In order to help reach this target Gloucester Cathedral commissioned local solar company Mypower to install an array on the nave of Gloucester Cathedral. Purportedly the solar array will reduce Gloucester Cathedralâs energy costs by 25%. The installation was completed by November 2016. The 1000 year old Cathedral is now the oldest building in the world to have undergone a solar installation.

The current Hereford Cathedral, located at Hereford in England, dates from 1079. Its most famous treasure is Mappa Mundi, a mediaeval map of the world dating from the 13th century. The cathedral is a Grade I listed building.
The cathedral is dedicated to two patron saints, namely Saint Mary the Virgin and Saint Ethelbert the King. The latter was beheaded by Offa, King of Mercia in the year 792. Offa had consented to give his daughter to Ethelbert in marriage: why he changed his mind and deprived him of his head historians do not know, although tradition is at no loss to supply him with an adequate motive. The execution, or murder, is said to have taken place at Sutton, four miles (6 km) from Hereford, with Ethelbert's body brought to the site of the modern cathedral by 'a pious monk'. At Ethelbert's tomb miracles were said to have occurred, and in the next century (about 830) Milfrid, a Mercian nobleman, was so moved by the tales of these marvels as to rebuild in stone the little church which stood there, and to dedicate it to the sainted king.
Before this, Hereford had become the seat of a bishopric. It is said to have been the centre of a diocese as early as the 670s when Archbishop Theodore of Tarsus divided the Mercian diocese of Lichfield, founding Hereford for the MagonsĂŠte and Worcester for the Hwicce. In the 7th century the cathedral was refounded by Putta, who settled here when driven from Rochester by Ăthelred of Mercia. The cathedral of stone, which Milfrid raised, stood for some 200 years, and then, in the reign of Edward the Confessor, it was altered. The new church had only a short life, for it was plundered and burnt in 1056 by a combined force of Welsh and Irish under Gruffydd ap Llywelyn, the Welsh prince; it was not, however, destroyed until its custodians had offered vigorous resistance, in which seven of the canons were killed.
Hereford Cathedral remained in a state of ruin until Robert of Lorraine was consecrated to the see (made Bishop) in 1079 and undertook its reconstruction. His work was carried on, or, more probably, redone, by Bishop Reynelm, who was next but one in the succession, and reorganised the college of secular canons attached to the cathedral. Reynelm died in 1115, and it was only under his third successor, Robert de Betun, who was Bishop from 1131 to 1148, that the church was brought to completion.
Of this Norman church, little has survived but the choir up to the spring of the clerestory, the south transept, the arch between the north transept and the choir aisle, and the nave arcade. Scarcely 50 years after its completion William de Vere, who occupied the see from 1186 to 1199, altered the east end by constructing a retro-choir or processional path and a Lady Chapel; the latter was rebuilt not long afterwardsâbetween the years 1226 and 1246, during the Early English styleâwith a crypt beneath. Around the middle of the century the clerestory, and probably the vaulting of the choir, were rebuilt, having been damaged by the settling of the central tower. Under Bishop Aquablanca (1240â68), one of Henry III's foreign favourites, the rebuilding of the north transept was begun, being completed later in the same century by Bishop Swinfield, who also built the aisles of the nave and eastern transept.
One of the most notable of the pre-reformation Bishops of Hereford, who left his mark upon the cathedral and the diocese, was Peter of Aigueblanche, also known as Bishop Aquablanca, who rebuilt the north transept. Aquablanca came to England in the train of Eleanor of Provence. He was undoubtedly a man of energy and resource; though he lavished money upon the cathedral and made a handsome bequest to the poor, it cannot be pretended that his qualifications for the office to which Henry III appointed him included piety. He was an unblushing nepotist, nor was he afraid to practise gross fraud when occasion called for it.[citation needed] When Prince Edward came to Hereford to deal with Llywelyn the Great of Gwynedd, the Bishop was away in Ireland on a tithe-collecting expedition, and the dean and canons were also absent. Not long after the Bishop's return, which was probably expedited by the stern rebuke which the King administered, he and all his relatives from Savoy were seized within the cathedral by a party of barons, who deprived him of the money which he had extorted from the Irish.
In the first half of the 14th century the rebuilding of the central tower, which is embellished with ball-flower ornaments, was carried out. At about the same time the chapter house and its vestibule were built, then Bishop Trevenant, who presided over the Bishopric from 1389 to 1404, rebuilt the south end and groining of the great transept. Around the middle of the 15th century a tower was added to the western end of the nave, and in the second half of this century Bishops Stanbury and Edmund Audley built three chantries, the former on the north side of the presbytery, the latter on the south side of the Lady Chapel. Bishops Richard Mayew and Booth, who between them ruled the diocese from 1504 to 1535, made the last additions to the cathedral by erecting the north porch, now forming the principal northern entrance. The building of the present edifice therefore extended over a period of 440 years.
Thomas de Cantilupe was the next but one bishop of Hereford after Aquablanca. He had faults not uncommon in men who held high ecclesiastical office in his day, however he was a strenuous administrator of his see, and an unbending champion of its rights. For assaulting some of the episcopal tenants and raiding their cattle, Lord Clifford was condemned to walk barefoot through the cathedral to the high altar, and the bishop himself applied the rod to his back. Bishop Cantilupe also wrung from the Welsh King Llewellyn some manors which he had seized, and Cantilupe, after a successful lawsuit against the Earl of Gloucester to determine the possession of a chase near the Forest of Malvern, dug the dyke which can still be traced on the crest of the Malvern Hills. Excommunicated by Archbishop of Canterbury John Peckham, he went to the papal court in Orvieto to plead his case with the pope. He moved with the court to Montefiascone where, already ill, he died in 1282 before his case was fully resolved. His flesh was buried in the monastery of San Severo outside Orvieto and his heart and bones were brought back to England. His bones were placed in a shrine at Hereford Cathedral where they became a focus of a huge pilgrimage cult. Rome was urged to canonise him, and among the evidences of his saintliness which his admirers appealed to, in addition to the miracles of healing wrought at his shrine, were the facts that he never ceased to wear his hair-shirt, and would never allow even his sister to kiss him. The testimony was regarded as conclusive, and 40 years after his death, in 1320, the bishop's name was added to the roll of saints. His arms were adopted for those of the see.

2 Timothy 3:1-5 NIV
But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God â having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.
2 Timothy 3:12-17 NIV
In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evildoers and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Built from 1954 to 1961, the tower was designed by the Egyptian architect Naoum Shebib. Its partially open lattice-work design is intended to evoke a pharaonic lotus plant, an iconic symbol of Ancient Egypt. The tower is crowned by a circular observation deck and a rotating restaurant with a view over greater Cairo. One rotation takes approximately 70 minutes.
In the 1960s, Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser announced that the funds for the construction of the Tower originated with the Government of the United States, which had provided $US6 million to him as a personal gift with the intent of currying his favour. Affronted by the attempt to bribe him, Nasser decided to publicly rebuke the U.S. government by transferring all of the funds to the Egyptian government for use in building the tower, which was 'visible from the US Embassy just across the Nile, as a taunting symbol of Arab resistance and pride'.
Between November 2004 and 17 May 2009 it underwent a EGP 35 million restoration project, completed in time for its fiftieth anniversary on April 2011
"You who laid the foundations of the earth,
So that it should not be moved forever,
You covered it with the deep as with a garment;
The waters stood above the mountains.
7 At Your rebuke they fled;
At the voice of Your thunder they hastened away.
They went up over the mountains;
They went down into the valleys,
To the place which You founded for them.
You have set a boundary that they may not pass over,
That they may not return to cover the earth.
He sends the springs into the valleys;
They flow among the hills.
They give drink to every beast of the field;
The wild donkeys quench their thirst.
By them the birds of the heavens have their home;
They sing among the branches.
He waters the hills from His upper chambers;
The earth is satisfied with the fruit of Your works."

New International Version
38 There was a written notice above him, which read: this is the king of the jews.
39 One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: âArenât you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!â
40 But the other criminal rebuked him. âDonât you fear God,â he said, âsince you are under the same sentence? 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.â
42 Then he said, âJesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.[a]â
43 Jesus answered him, âTruly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.â
"Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil; May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls. Amen."

At that time, words of rebuke like the eruption of Tonga were uttered from the mouth of the Great Buddha.
âidiot, stupid, pervert. Your Buddha's blasphemy is beyond the permissible limit. It's a foolish thing to neglect to respond to Flickr's followers by watching YouTube's erotic videos. It's your responsibility to skip the gym and not be able to wear your pants...."
The middle-aged man tapped his head, thinking he had imagined something stupid this weekend.
Tenderloin, San Francisco /// Like an earring of gold and an ornament of fine gold Is a wise rebuker to an obedient ear. (Proverbs 25:12 NKJV)
BIBLICAL CONTEXT: Philippians 4:7-11 NIV
(from biblegateway.com)
7 One person pretends to be rich, yet has nothing;
another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth.
8 A personâs riches may ransom their life,
but the poor cannot respond to threatening rebukes.
9 The light of the righteous shines brightly,
but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out.
10 Where there is strife, there is pride,
but wisdom is found in those who take advice.
11 Dishonest money dwindles away,
but whoever gathers money little by little makes it grow.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5 MORE THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW:
1. Like it or not, we are ALL sinners: As the Scriptures say, âNo one is righteousânot even one. No one is truly wise; no one is seeking God. All have turned away; all have become useless. No one does good, not a single one.â (Romans 3:10-12 NLT)
2. The punishment for sin is death: When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adamâs sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned. (Romans 5:12 NLT)
3. Jesus is our only hope: But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (Romans 5:8 NLT) For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23 NLT)
4. SALVATION is by GRACE through FAITH in JESUS: God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you canât take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are Godâs masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. (Ephesians 2:8-10 NLT)
5. Accept Jesus and receive eternal life: If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9 NLT) But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. (John 1:12 NLT) And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have Godâs Son does not have life. (1 John 5:11-12 NLT)
Read the Bible for yourself. Allow the Lord to speak to you through his Word. YOUR ETERNITY IS AT STAKE!
Cavendish Mews is a smart set of flats in Mayfair where flapper and modern woman, the Honourable Lettice Chetwynd has set up home after coming of age and gaining her allowance. To supplement her already generous allowance, and to break away from dependence upon her family, Lettice has established herself as a society interior designer, so her flat is decorated with a mixture of elegant antique Georgian pieces and modern Art Deco furnishings, using it as a showroom for what she can offer to her well heeled clients.
Today however, we are south of the Thames in the middle-class London suburb of Putney in the front room of a red brick Edwardian villa in Hazelwood Road, where Gerald has brought Lettice to visit his friend, Harriet Milford. The orphaned daughter of a solicitor with little formal education, Harriet has taken in lodgers to earn a living, but more importantly for Lettice, has taken up millinery semi-professionally to give her some pin money*. As Letticeâs mother, Lady Sadie, has forbidden Lettice to wear a shop bought hat to Leslie, Letticeâs brotherâs, wedding in November and Lettice has quarrelled with her own milliner, Madame Gwendolyn, Gerald thought that Harriet might benefit as much from Letticeâs patronage as Lettice will by purchasing one of Harrietâs hats to resolve her fashion conundrum.
Lettice glances around the front parlour of the Putney villa, which doubles as Harrietâs sewing room and show room for her hats, with the critical eye of an interior designer, all the while listening to the notes of the oboe being played upstairs. The roomâs middle-class chintzy dĂ©cor immediately appals her as she takes in the floral covers of the flouncy Edwardian sofa on which she perches gingerly, and its matching roomy armchair by the fire, a hand embroidered pouffe and the busy Edwardian floral wallpaper. A bookcase stands in the corner, full of mystery novels covered in dust which Lettice suspects might have belonged to Harrietâs father, the deceased Mr. Milford. The bookcaseâs top and the fireplace mantle are cluttered with family portraits taken in the possibly happier days of the idyllic summers before the Great War. The walls are hung with a mixture of cheap botanical prints and quaint English country scenes, all in gaudy gilded plaster frames. âHow ghastly,â Lettice utters quietly with a sigh.
âI know: you hate the floral chintz,â Gerald says in reply to Letticeâs laconic observation. âYou donât need to tell me. The look of distaste on your face says it all. But you arenât here to redecorate Lettuce Leaf, so be a darling and remember to mind your manners. You are a viscountâs daughter, after all, and Hattie is just a solicitorâs daughter. However, in spite of her low birth in comparison to your own, she is a good person, and she is my friend. Show some of your good breeding and be gracious.â
Lettice shoots Gerald an annoyed look at his use of her abhorred nickname yet again. âIâm beginning to question your choice of new friends â not that I even knew she existed prior to today.â
âOh, there is a lot about me you donât know, Lettice darling.â Gerald says with an air of mystery.
She glances around her again. âItâs awfully untidy in here.â she remarks not unjustly as she takes in the sight of a concertina sewing box on casters which stands cascaded open next to the armchair, threads, embroidery silks, buttons and ribbons pouring from its compartments like entrails. Hats in different stages of being made up and decorated lie about on the arm of the chair and the settee or on the floor in a haphazard way. The brightly patterned rug is littered with spools of cotton, scissors, ribbon, artificial flowers and dogeared copies of Weldonâs** magazines.
âYes, well, Hattie hasnât learnt the finer points of presentation yet,â Gerald admits. âBut Iâm working on that. However, suspend your judgement until you see what she can create for you.â Pointing to the three hats Lettice inspected a few minutes before sitting atop what must have formerly been a tea table, he adds, âYouâve already seen that her work really is every bit as good as Madame Gwendolynâs.â
âWell, we shall see.â Lettice pronounces, withholding her judgement on Harrietâs work.
Just at that moment, Harrietâs scurrying footsteps across the tiled vestibule floor outside the door announce her arrival and she hurries through the door bearing a tray loaded with tea making implements and a plate of biscuits. âBe a lamb and bring over fatherâs chess table, will you Gerry darling.â she instructs Gerald.
Obediently Gerald gets up from his seat on the floral sofa next to Lettice, and with the familiarity of a regular houseguest, picks up a tilt table nestled on the far side of the fireplace. Tilting its surface into an upright position, Lettice momentarily sees the chess board set in marquetry on its surface before it is quickly obscured by an old fashioned Edwardian gilt banded tea set and the plate of biscuits as Gerald takes everything off Harrietâs tray.
âThanks ever so!â Harriet sighs with relief before depositing the tray on the floor by the door, walking back across the room and around the table and then collapsing into the armchair with another deeper sigh.
âAs an interior designer, Lettice has just been commenting on your dĂ©cor, Hattie darling,â Gerald says to their hostess as he resumes his own seat.
âGerald!â gasps Lettice, her face flushing at her friendâs frank admission.
âOh Iâm sorry itâs so untidy, Miss Chetwynd.â Harriet apologises as she snatches a rather tattered copy of Weldonâs* off the arm of her chair, shoving in behind her floral cushion, and tries to bundle her sewing bits back into the tray of her sewing box on casters. âGerry has told me I need to improve the presentation of my premises, but having no domestic staff to speak of other than me, and trying to run a boarding house at the same time as make hats means I just donât seem to have the time to tidy up in here.â
âNor do I, Hattie darling,â Gerald scolds. âBut thatâs no excuse.â
Harriet blushes at her friendâs gentle rebuke.
âShall I be mother then***?â Lettice asks. When Harriet nods in agreement, Lettice perches herself on the edge of the chintz sofa and sets out the tea things. âSo,â she asks, pouring hot brackish tea into the first china cup. âYou run a lodging house too?â
âYes, for theatrical artistes.â Harriet explains proudly with a smile. âThatâs Cyril playing his oboe upstairs,â She rolls her eyes up to the white plaster ceiling decorated with floral boiseries. âAlthough he is a professional actor as well as a musician in the West End.â
âIndeed,â muses Lettice.
âAlthough I do wish heâd play something other than Schumann or Mozart when we have guests.â mutters Harriet.
âOh why, Miss Milford?â Lettice asks.
âWell, itâs not exactly the jolliest of music, is it?â Getting up again, Harriet walks over to the open doorway leading to the vestibule. Standing astride the threshold she calls up the stairs, âDo you think you could play something a bit jollier on the oboe, Cyril? We have guests. Gerryâs brought a friend. How about a nice bit of jazz?â
The music stops abruptly followed by a rather feminine sounding manâs fey voice opining from upstairs, âHow can you, Hattie? Iâm an artiste!â The last word is uttered dripping with melodrama. âJazz music does not make one money.â
âReally? Then explain to me how the Savoy Havana Band**** make a living, Cyril? Please? Do it for Gerry, if not for me!â
âOh, alright,â the fey voice bemoans. âBut only because Gerry brought a chum.â The music recommences, only this time the opening bars to âThe Sheik of Arabyâ***** fill the air.
âHattie had a rather awkward situation with a retired colonel when she first started letting rooms.â Gerald says in a lowered tone as Harriet smiles at the change in music.
âYes, the old chap couldnât keep his hands to himself.â Harriet replies with a curt nod as she walks across the room and takes her place again. âDirty old lecher was old enough to be my grandfather!â
âHow awful, Miss Milford!â Lettice exclaims.
âI donât find I have the same problem with men who are theatrical types, especially those from the chorus, those who paint the sets or work in the wardrobe department,â She smiles at Gerald, who smiles back. âIf you understand my meaning, Miss Chetwyndâ Harriet says with a wink, returning her attention to Lettice âI feel much safer around the likes of Cyril and his chums.â
âIndeed yes.â agrees Lettice, glancing between Gerald and Harriet, the pang of jealousy curdling her stomach as it did when she first saw Gerald and Harriet embrace in the way she thought only she and Gerald did.
âMy father sent me to domestic science classes, so Iâm quite a dab hand at plain cooking and keeping house when I get the chance, so my lodgers are happy.â
âDo try one of Harrietâs jam fancies, Lettice,â Gerald encourages, picking up one for himself from the blue and gilt banded sandwich plate, placing it on the edge of his saucer as he picks up his cup of tea. âThey really are rather good.â
Lettice picks one up and takes a small bite, the biscuit dough melting in her mouth. âVery good, Miss Milford.â she enthuses. âEvery bit as delicious as my maidâs baking.â
âThank you, Miss Chetwynd.â Harriet replies with a proud smirk. âIâll take that as a compliment.â
âConsidering that Lettice doesnât know how to make a cup of tea, never mind bake a biscuit, I would.â Gerald remarks cheekily.
Ignoring his remark, Lettice asks, âSo how is it that you came to make hats, Miss Milford? I was just admiring those hats on the table over there before you came in. They are beautifully made.â
Turning her head, Harriet gazes pleasingly at the three hats sitting on the table next to her sewing machine in the bay window. âThank you, Miss Chetwynd. Well, my mother before she passed on taught me how to sew and embroider. She embroidered that.â Harriet indicates to the pouffe at Letticeâs feet with its green flounces and a rose stitched on its top. âI always enjoyed sewing and working with fabrics, so I thought Iâd try my hand at making hats.â
âHarriet had to turn over her sewing room to Cyril when he came to board with her.â Gerald adds.
âHow do you know where Cyril sleeps?â Lettice asks with mild shock, her face flushing with colour when Gerald clears his throat awkwardly and blushes bright red as a silent form of reply. âOh⊠oh, I see.â
âThe light is much better in here anyway,â Harriet quickly pipes up brightly in a chivalrous effort to prevent her friend any further embarrassment, a gesture that does not go unnoticed by both Gerald and Lettice who both admire her action. âThe bay windows downstairs are much bigger than the oriel windows up under the roof. Besides itâs much easier for customers to step in here than trudge up three flights of stairs to the attic.â
âAnd your little enterprise has taken off, I believe Miss Milford.â
âIâve been moderately successful, Miss Chetwynd.â
âYouâve been very successful, Hattie darling.â Gerald corrects her encouragingly.
âAnd what are you going to call your cottage industry, Miss Milford?â Lettice asks. âNot Hattieâs Hats, I hope.â
âOh how drole you are, Miss Chetwynd,â laughs Harriet. âNo. Well, I hadnât actually thought what I should call my âlittle enterpriseâ, as you call it, Miss Chetwynd. Maybe you and Gerry can help me find the perfect name.â Clearing her throat, she carries on. âWhich brings me to the reason why you are here. I believe that you are in need of a new hat, Miss Chetwynd.â
âSo, Gerald has told you about me then, Miss Milford?â
âWell, yes, Gerry did tell me that you are both to attend your brotherâs wedding at the end of November â a country wedding in Wiltshire Iâve been told â and he did tell me that you have fallen out with your former milliner, Madame Gwendolyn of Oxford Street. He also gave me some background to your family,â She leans forward in her seat, her demeanour suddenly going from a relaxed stance to a more professional and formal one. âHowever, I am also perfectly capable of doing my own research, Miss Chetwynd. Iâve often seen your picture in the society pages in the company of Gerry, Minnie and Charles Palmerston, Celia Bamford, Willie Chelmsford, Priscilla Kitson-Fahey and more recently, American department store heir Georgie Carter: your âEmbassy Club Coterieâ I believe you call it. You are also acquainted with Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon****** who has been linked romantically with the Duke of York in the last year. I also saw you in Vogue twice this year: once at the wedding of Dickie and Margot Channon in January - Margot Channon nĂ©e de Virre your best friend â and then again at the marriage of the Princess Royal******* in February.â
âMy, you are well informed, Miss Milford!â remarks Lettice, unable to disguise how impressed she is at Harrietâs research.
âI also noticed, without Gerry needing to tell me,â Harriet glances momentarily at Gerald slyly scoffing another of her jam fancies before returning her attention quickly to Lettice. âThat the rather fetching straw hat with silk and feather trim you wore to the Royal Wedding was a model bought from Selfridges.â
âGerald!â Lettice exclaims, slapping him hard on the knee.
Sitting up and spluttering out bits of biscuit onto the floor in front of him he manages to utter between coughs, âI⊠I didnât⊠tell⊠her.â
âItâs true,â Harried elucidates. âGerry didnât need to. I make it my business to study fashion, and anyone with a keen eye who reads Selfridges advertisements would know that it is a French mode Mr. Selfridge paid to import from Paris. Pretty yes, but not unique. No doubt, after your falling out with Madame Gwendolyn you found yourself in a tight spot Miss Chetwynd, needing a new hat, but not one from her. Being one of hundreds of guests at the wedding, you could get away with a shop bought hat. As a significant event on the Wiltshire social calendar, I imagine that you need something a little more discerning to wear to your brotherâs wedding, considering that there will be far fewer guests in attendance than there were at Westminster Abbey, and therefore more attention paid to you.â
âPlease forgive me, Miss Milford,â Lettice smiles across at Harriet, suddenly sitting up straight and looking her hostess directly in the eye. âI must confess that I underestimated you. When Gerald brought me here, and when I first met you outside, I didnât detect an ounce of your shrewdness.â
âMy father may not have valued my further education, but I did learn a few tricks and traits from him before he died.â
âBravo, Miss Milford.â Letticeâs eyes glisten with interest. âYou have my full and undivided attention. What are you proposing?â
âI believe you are wearing lemon yellow to the wedding, with russet accents. Is that right, Gerry darling?â Still recovering his breath after choking on biscuit crumbs he can only nod in reply before coughing again. âThen considering the shape of your face and the colour and style of your hair, I would suggest a yellow dyed straw, small brimmed picture hat with lemon yellow muslin and perhaps some russet flowers or autumnal shaded imitation fruit.â
âHmmmâŠ.â Lettice ponders Harrietâs suggestions with a downwards gaze, envisaging what the hat might look like, before looking up again. âVery well Miss Milford. Consider yourself engaged to make my hat for Leslieâs wedding.â
âOh hoorah!â exclaims Harriet, clapping her hands in delight. âWe can settle terms later.â
Just as Lettice is about to agree, a tall, slender and handsome young man with pale patrician skin and a mop of blonde curls walks through the parlour door, dressed in a set of tails with a square instrument box in his right hand. Unnoticed by the party sitting in the parlour, the oboe music had ceased a short while ago, and the player now stood before them.
âWell, Iâm off up the West End, Hattie.â Cyrilâs voice, still containing that fey quality, was instantly recognisable. Placing a kiss on Harrietâs proffered right cheek, Cyril turns and snatches up a biscuit off the tray on the table before leaning over to Gerald and placing a kiss squarely on his lips, causing Gerald and Lettice to both blush at the brazen expression of affection bestowed upon Gerald so openly by the young men. As if nothing could be more natural, the young musician spins on his heel and elegantly walks to the door. Pausing on the threshold he turns back to the trio and says dramatically, âDonât wait up.â Then he looks intently at blushing Gerald and adds, âIâll see you after the show, Gerry darling. Ta-ta!â And he disappears from view, his exit from the villa being heralded moments later by the opening and then slamming of the front door.
The room is suddenly plunged into quiet, broken only by the ticking of the floral china clock on the mantle and the chirp of birdsong in the bushes outside the parlour window, the silence even more evident by the lack of Cyrilâs playing drifting from upstairs.
âWell, you were right, Gerald,â Lettice says breathily after a few moments.
âAbout Harriet?â he asks gingerly.
âWell yes,â she agrees. âBut also, about the fact that there is so much about you I donât know.â She smiles cheekily, breaking the nervous feeling in the room. âSo, is Cyril the reason you have come to know Miss Milford, or did you come to know Cyril through Miss Milford?â
*Originating in Seventeenth Century England, the term pin money first meant âan allowance of money given by a husband to his wife for her personal expenditures. Married women, who typically lacked other sources of spending money, tended to view an allowance as something quite desirable. By the Twentieth Century, the term had come to mean a small sum of money, whether an allowance or earned, for spending on inessentials, separate and in addition to the housekeeping money a wife might have to spend.
**Created by British industrial chemist and journalist Walter Weldon Weldonâs Ladiesâ Journal was the first âhome weekliesâ magazine which supplied dressmaking patterns. Weldonâs Ladiesâ Journal was first published in 1875 and continued until 1954 when it ceased publication.
***The meaning of the very British term âshall I be motherâ is âshall I pour the tea?â
****The Savoy Havana Band was a British dance band of the 1920s. It was resident at the Savoy Hotel, London, between 1921 and 1927. Players in the band included future American crooner Rudy Vallée and British pianist and composer Billy Mayerl.
*****âThe Sheik of Arabyâ is a song that was written in 1921 by Harry B. Smith and Francis Wheeler, with music by Ted Snyder. It was composed in response to the popularity of the Rudolph Valentino feature film The Sheik. "The Sheik of Araby" was a Tin Pan Alley hit, and was also adopted by early jazz bands, especially in New Orleans, making it a jazz standard.
******Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon as she was known in 1922 went on to become Queen of the United Kingdom and the Dominions from 1936 to 1952 as the wife of King George VI. Whilst still Duke of York, Prince Albert initially proposed to Elizabeth in 1921, but she turned him down, being "afraid never, never again to be free to think, speak and act as I feel I really ought to" She was one of Princess Maryâs eight bridesmaids at her 1922 wedding.
*******Mary, Princess Royal and Countess of Harewood (1897 â 1965), was the only daughter of King George V and Queen Mary. She was the sister of Kings Edward VIII and George VI, and aunt of Queen Elizabeth II. She married Viscount Lascelles on the 28th of February 1922 in a ceremony held at Westminster Abbey. The bride was only 24 years old, whilst the groom was 39. There is much conjecture that the marriage was an unhappy one, but their children dispute this and say it was a very happy marriage based upon mutual respect. The wedding was filmed by PathĂ© News and was the first royal wedding to be featured in fashion magazines, including Vogue.
This rather cluttered and chaotic scene of a drawing room cum workroom may look real to you, but believe it or not, it is made up entirely with pieces from my 1:12 miniatures collection, including pieces from my childhood.
Fun things to look for in this tableau include:
1:12 size miniature hats made to such exacting standards of quality and realism such as these are often far more expensive than real hats are. When you think that it would sit comfortably on the tip of your index finger, yet it could cost in excess of $150.00 or ÂŁ100.00, it is an extravagance. American artists seem to have the monopoly on this skill and some of the hats that I have seen or acquired over the years are remarkable. The natural yellow straw hat with white ribbon trim on the arm of the settee was made by an unknown artisan in the United Kingdom and was sold through Doreen Jeffreyâs Small Wonders miniatures shop. The red velvet hat covered with roses on the arm of the chair was made by an unknown British artisan. The two hats on the carpet were both acquired from Kathleen Knightâs Doll House in the United Kingdom.
The copies of Weldonâs Dressmaker and the Ladyâs World Fancy Work Book scattered about the room are 1:12 size miniatures made by the British miniature artisan Ken Blythe. The books on the bookshelf in the background are also made by Ken Blythe. Most of the books I own that he has made may be opened to reveal authentic printed interiors. In some cases, you can even read the words, depending upon the size of the print! I have quite a large representation of Ken Blytheâs work in my collection, but so little of his real artistry is seen because the books that he specialised in making are usually closed, sitting on shelves or closed on desks and table surfaces. In this case, the magazines are non-opening, however what might amaze you is that all Ken Blytheâs books and magazines are authentically replicated 1:12 scale miniatures of real volumes. To create something so authentic to the original in such detail and so clearly, really does make this a miniature artisan piece. Ken Blytheâs work is highly sought after by miniaturists around the world today and command high prices at auction for such tiny pieces, particularly now that he is no longer alive. I was fortunate enough to acquire pieces from Ken Blythe prior to his death about four years ago, as well as through his estate via his daughter and son-in-law. His legacy will live on with me and in my photography which I hope will please his daughter.
The concertina sewing box on casters which you can see spilling forth its contents is an artisan miniature made by an unknown artist in England. It comes from Kathleen Knightâs Doll House Shop in the in the United Kingdom. All the boxâs contents including spools of ribbons, threads scissors and buttons on cards came with the work box. The box can completely expand or contract, just like its life-sized equivalent.
The hand embroidered and home made cream and green pouffe, the black japanned fire screen, the black metal fire tools and the plant in the corner all also come from Kathleen Knightâs Doll House Shop.
Harrietâs family photos seen cluttering the mantlepiece and the bookshelf in the background are all real photos, produced to high standards in 1:12 size on photographic paper by Little Things Dollhouse Miniatures in Lancashire. The frames are almost all from Melody Janeâs Dollhouse Suppliers in the United Kingdom and are made of metal with glass in each.
The porcelain clock on the mantlepiece is made by M.W. Reutter Porzellanfabrik in Germany, who specialise in making high quality porcelain miniatures. The pot of yellow and blue petunias on the mantlepiece has been hand made and painted by 1:12 miniature ceramicist Ann Dalton. The castle shaped cottage orneé (pastille burner) on the bookshelf has been hand made, painted and gilded by Welsh miniature ceramist Rachel Williams who has her own studio, V&R Miniatures, in Powys. The bowl decorated with fruit on the bookshelf was hand decorated by British artisan Rachael Maundy.
The spools of threads, the tape measure, the silver sewing scissors in the shape of a stork and the box of embroidery threads I acquired from Kathleen Knightâs Dollsâ House in the United Kingdom.
The tilt chess table in the middle of the room I bought from Mick and Marieâs Miniatures in the United Kingdom. The Edwardian tea set and cake plate on its surface come from Kathleen Knightâs Doll House in the United Kingdom, whilst the biscuits on the plate come from Beautifully Handmade Miniatures in Kettering.
The sewing basket that you can see just behind the straw hat sitting on the arm of the sofa I bought from a high street shop that specialised in dolls and doll house furnishings. It is an artisan miniature and contains pieces of embroidery and embroidery threads.
The floral chintz settee and chair and the Art Nouveau china cabinet are made by J.B.M. miniatures who specialise in well made pieces of miniature furniture made to exacting standards.
The sewing machine to the left of the photo, I bought from Melody Janeâs Doll House Suppliers in the United Kingdom. It is made with extreme attention to detail, complete with a painted black metal body, authentic sewing mechanisms and a worksurface âinlaidâ with mother-of-pearl.
The Chinese carpet beneath the furniture is hand made by Mackay and Gerrish in Sydney, Australia.
The Edwardian mantlepiece is made of moulded plaster and was acquired from Kathleen Knightâs Dollâs House in the United Kingdom.
The bookshelf in the background comes from Babetteâs Miniatures, who have been making miniature dollsâ furnishings since the late eighteenth century.
The paintings and prints on the walls all come from Kathleen Knightâs Dollâs House in the United Kingdom.
Lettice has her future sister-in-law, Arabella Tyrwhitt, who will soon marry her eldest brother Leslie, staying with her at Cavendish Mews. As Arabella has no sisters, and her mother is too unwell at present to travel up to London from Wiltshire, Lettice has taken it upon herself to help Arabella shop and select a suitable trousseau. So, she has brought her to London to stay in Cavendish Mews, rather than opening up the Tyrwhittâs Georgian townhouse in Curzon Street for a week, so from there she can take Arabella shopping in all the best shops in the West End, and take her to her old childhood chum and best friend Gerald Brutonâs couturier in Grosvenor Street for her wedding dress.
Today however we have headed a short distance south from Cavendish Mews to St. Jamesâ Park after Lettice received a surprise telephone call from Selwyn Spencely, the Duke of Walmsfordâs son, with whom she has started a budding relationship.
âLettice my Angel,â his voice called down the telephone excitedly. âMay I be completely and utterly impetuous and ask you to do something spontaneous?â When Lettice laughed in reply he continued, âI know we agreed to have dinner at the CafĂ© Royal* after your houseguest leaves, but I just canât wait that long to see you! Today is such a beautiful summer day. It would be a shame to waste it. Couldnât I persuade you to leave your guest to her own devices for a few hours and come and have a picnic in St. Jamesâ Park with me?â
When Lettice explained that it would be remiss of her to desert Arabella, Arabella, who was sitting in the drawing room leafing through some of Letticeâs latest fashion magazines and within earshot of the conversation, immediately indicated with mouthed, overpronounced words and pantomime like gesticulations that she could find her own way to Oxford Street to do a little browsing at Selfridges department store. And so, it was with a heart fluttering with delight that Arabella and Edith, Letticeâs maid, rushed her off to her dressing room to help her swiftly pick the perfect choice for a summertime picnic in St. Jamesâ Park. With Lettice suitably arrayed, Edith scuttled down to the taxi stand at the edge of the nearby square, hired a taxi and bundled Lettice into it with Arabellaâs help before directing it to St. Jamesâs Park.
âLettice my angel!â Selwyn gasps as he sees her approach, dressed in a pretty afternoon frock of flower sprigged cream cotton and a wide brimmed straw hat decorated with cream and yellow artificial roses. âCan it be my imagination or are you even more beautiful after your return from Wiltshire?â
âOh you are such a flatterer, Selwyn darling!â Lettice laughs, waving her right hand kittenishly at Selwyn, who catches it playfully and raises it to his lips, kissing it tenderly. Lettice smiles as she feels the warmth of his lips through the thin weave of her ecru lace glove.
At Selwynâs feet on the gravel path sits a small basket lined with blue and white cotton, and decorated with a pretty red satin bow, filled with the makings of a splendid luncheon for two.
Seeing her querying look as to why he isnât holding the basket, Selwyn withdraws his left hand from behind his back. âThese are for you, my angel!â And with a flourish he presents her with a bunch of long stemmed creamy roses wrapped in colourful paper. âI must have known in my heart what you were going to wear.â
âOh Selwyn!â Lettice gasps, accepting the blooms from him and raising them to her face, inhaling their sweet fragrance. âYou are so thoughtful! Thank you!â
âI have the perfect spot for us,â Selwyn replies, entwining the fingers of his left hand with her right hand and leading her along the path where they perambulate leisurely amidst the other citizenry of London enjoying the fine summer day.
The warm air smells sweet with the fragrance of grass and trees basking in the summer sun as Lettice looks at the others around her. Nannies, both in smart uniforms or just dressed in ordinary clothes, push their privileged charges about in splendid prams with black and blue hoods and shiny spoked wheels or parade them along at a pace quick enough to get the much needed summer air into their little lungs. City gents and clerks in suits and uncomfortable looking starched collars sit on benches reading the London tabloids, sharing their seats with older couples in their outmoded Victorian perambulating outfits. Participating in a romantic assignation, Lettice is suddenly aware of how many other young couples just like she and Selwyn there are around them. Lettice notices a few soldiers in red dress uniform escorting their beaus in summer frocks and hats similar to her own, but perhaps not so expensive or exclusive as her couture pieces. The pair depart the gravel path and step over the low hooped lawn edgings and leave the dappled shade of the trees to cross over the well clipped lawns into an open space flooded with summer sunshine.
âHere we are,â Selwyn says, stopping on a patch of lawn sparsely populated by other picnickers, with the perfect view of St Jamesâ Park duck pond and Buckingham Palace rising beyond the green space in the distance. âThe perfect spot.â
âOh it is Selwyn!â Lettice laughs as Selwyn gently drops the basket on the grass and withdraws a red and white gingham picnic rug from within its confines and unfurls it with a flourish.
âNow we have some cold chicken, some fresh bread,â Selwyn begins as he starts withdrawing gilt edged crockery and silver cutlery from the basket.
âDid you have the chefs at your club prepare this, Selwyn?â Lettice asks in amazement as she lowers herself onto the rug alongside her bouquet of cream roses, carefully arranging her skirt over her knees as she curls her legs underneath herself.
âGoodness no!â he laughs jovially as he puts a salt and a pepper shaker matching the plates into the picnic rug.
âThen where?â
âHarrods has a very fine line in personalised picnic hampers through their Meat and Fish Hall**. I simply told them what I fancied, and they provided it.â He takes out a white damask cloth and opens it. âVoilĂ ! Salad!â
âFancy!â Lettice gasps, raising her fingers to her lips in delight at Selwynâs gustatory magic trick.
âThere are freshly baked jam tarts for dessert, too.â Selwyn announces proudly, as if he had baked them himself.
âAnd apples!â Lettice points to two rosy, red apples nestled into the side of the basket like two embarrassed blushing lovers.
âAnd of course, no picnic would be complete without,â He delves back into the basket and carefully withdraws a bottle. âA glass or two of Mozelle.â He winks at his luncheon companion conspiratorially.
Lettice claps her hands in delight as he proceeds to take out two sparkling crystal glasses from within the interior of the basket.
A half hour later, with most of the chicken, fresh baguette and salad consumed, Lettice and Selwyn settle back to let their first course settle before indulging in their dessert of tarts. Lettice sighs contentedly as she feels the warmth of the sun on her bare arms, exposed below her cap sleeves, whilst Selwyn stretches out comfortably, resting on his elbow as he gazes up at Lettice from beneath the brim of his straw boater.
âYou know,â Lettice says as she sips still cool Mozelle from her glass, listening to the companionable sound of quiet chatter punctuated by smatterings of laughter and the quacks of ducks around them. âI still canât get used to it.â
âUsed to what, my angel?â Selwyn asks lazily, looking across the gardens in the general direction of Letticeâs gaze.
âThat.â She points to Buckingham Palace, its Portland stone frontage*** basking in the sunshine. âThe new façade.â
âItâs hardly new, Lettice darling. Itâs been almost ten years since it was completed.â
âYes, but four of those years we were at war, which began just after its completion, and Iâve only been living in London for two years, so itâs still new to me.â
âDo you know that The King paid for the contractors building it to work around the clock to complete it in thirteen weeks.â
âNo,â Lettice replies, looking down into his animated face.
âYes. It was quite a logistical feat! The blocks of stone were prepared in advance and numbered before delivery to the Palace via a tramway especially built for the purpose. The contractors used new technologies like electric hoists to move the Portland stone pieces into place, and they used arc lighting to allow the men to work around the clock.â
âGood heavens! I didnât know any of that.â
âYes, and The King even hosted a dinner for all the workmen afterwards, to thank them for completing it so swiftly.â
âArenât we lucky to have such a good ruler as King George?â Lettice asks rhetorically. âOf course, you know all about the palace façade construction, being a successful architect.â She adds with a smile.
âWell, a young and upcoming architect,â Selwyn returns her smile with a broad and appreciative one of his own.
âYouâll be a great success, Selwyn darling!â Lettice enthuses. âI just know it. This house you are building in Hampstead will be just the beginning.â
Selwyn snorts derisively. âI wish my father had the faith in me that you do, darling.â
âWhat do you mean?â
âWell, I have my duties as heir to the Walmsford title to consider, rather than this,â he flaps his hand around distractedly, narrowly avoiding spilling what Mozelle he has left in his own glass. âThis silly pastime of mine of drawing dollsâ houses.â
âDrawing dollsâ houses?â Lettice exclaims in horror. âIs that what he calls it?â
âHe does.â Selwyn says with resignation.
âWell,â Lettice replies a steely tone in her voice, lifting her head and staring away into the distance. âUnlike my mother, and evidently your father, I donât see you as the mere heir to a title and all that goes with it.â
âAnd thatâs one of the reasons Iâm drawn to you, my darling. You are so refreshingly different. You arenât like all the toadying debutantes of the London season and their equally simpering, insufferable mothers, courting me and stealing covetous glances at me beneath lowered lids.â
âWell, I might not be, but my mother is. Donât forget that you were invited to her Hunt Ball along with a dozen other suitably eligible bachelors as part of a marriage market for me. Youâve no idea what pressure Mater puts on me to hurry up and get married like my sister, Lally, just like a good girl.â
âI take it then, that she no more approves of your interior design business than my father approves of my career in architecture?â
It is Letticeâs turn to snort derisively. âFolly is what she calls it. My interior design folly.â She sighs.
âSo you understand the weight of the constant barrage of disapproval then?â
âI do, Selwyn, more than you know.â Lettice takes a sharp inhale of sweet summer air, as if steeling herself for just such a rebuke.
The pair fall into a companionable silence for a short while, momentarily lost in their own thoughts. In the distance a duck protests, squawking as a little boy in a sailor suit chases after it excitedly. The duck escapes onto the shimmering surface of the pond with a splash of water, and the little boy is stopped from following him by the swift actions of a woman who is either his mother or his nanny, scolding him for bothering the poor bird.
âI decided to set up my interior design business partly as a form of rebellion: a way to irritate my mother more than I already did during the war by insisting on nursing patients who came to convalesce at Glynes, but more so to strike out from my parents and make my own way in the world, at least a little bit.â
âI think that sounds splendid, my angel. To be independent in thought and deed shows character, and in a woman, steely determination.â
âIâm glad you approve, Selwyn. Mater certainly does not. She derides the idea of the independence of women.â
âYou mustnât be too hard on her, Lettice. Lady Sadie is a product of her upbringing. Her generation grew up with the idea that to marry, and to marry well, was the only option for women of her class.â
âMaybe." Lettice muses. âBut not all people thought that way. Fatherâs father, my grandfather, believed in womenâs emancipation long before it was fashionable to do so.â
âIs it fashionable today?â
âIn some circles it is, and it will become more so, you mark my words.â She wags a finger at him.
âIn more enlightened and perhaps more bohemian circles, certainly.â
âThatâs why my Aunt Eglantine is a successful artist. My grandfather made sure that as his daughter, she was well provided for, so that way she could live independently and didnât have to get married. It was a pity he didnât live to see how things are changing for women now. Heâs the one who set up my allowance for me when I came of age. No matter what I do, no matter how much I outrage my parents for breaching conformity, they cannot withdraw my allowance now that I am of age. My grandfather told me before he died to pursue my dreams, and that not every girl has to get married.â
âA most forward thinking gentleman was the old Viscount Wrexham.â
âHe was.â Lettice replies with a smile. âAnd you, Selwyn.â
âMe?â
âYes! Why did you decide to become an architect?â
âWell, as you know, I grew up in refined surroundings, yet I used to hear whispers and complaints about the idle rich when I was young.â
âYou sound like one of those Communists who stand down at Speakers Corner**** in Hyde Park.â
âWell,â chuckles Selwyn. âI did have a tutor before I went to boarding school whom Iâm sure had Communist affiliations, as it was through his education that I learned most about the folly, fecklessness and idleness of the rich.â
âSo, what did he instil in you then, Selwyn?â
âWell, I grew up determined not to be just, as you so beautifully put it when we had luncheon at the Metrople*****, a Your Grace: a duke wealthy enough to live his life idly. My parents greatest claim to fame is that they have amassed a vast collection of rare and beautiful porcelain. I want more than to be known for something like that. I wanted a purpose, to give my life meaning. I want to leave my mark on the world.â Lettice leans in closer to Selwyn, mesmerised by his heightened passion as he speaks. âAnd I thought architecture was a good way to do it. I can design civic buildings that are needed and that bring pride to a community. I can build the homes of the future. Perhaps I might even one day design houses for Londonâs poor, to help replace the slums in the East End.â
âThatâs very fine talk, Selwyn darling.â Lettice says proudly. âI approve. But what does your mother think?â
âZinnia?â
âYou call her by her given name?â
âWell, Zinnia has always been vain. She never wanted to grow old, so it suited her to have me call her Zinnia rather than mother. It leaves her ageless, you see. Sheâs not really a maternal kind of woman.â
âI just remember an angry woman yelling at me as she pulled you out of the hedgerow.â
âYes, well, in answer to your question, I very much doubt she thinks about my desires as anything more than an irritation or an eccentricity, much the same way as your own mother views your pursuits as an interior designer. She knows that I am bound by duty to succeed my father some day, so she tolerates it as a mild inconvenience: the young heir living a life of his own choosing whilst he can.â
âDo you think thatâs true?â Lettice asks, draining her glass. âWill you have to give up architecture when you become the next Duke of Walmsford?â
Selwyn withdraws the bottle of Mozelle from its wrapper of damask sitting in the basket and proffers its open mouth towards Lettice, who responds by moving closer and placing her glass beneath it. He fills her glass first and then refills his own. âI donât know.â he sighs. âI hope not.â
âBut?â Lettice prods his unfinished thought.
âBut I havenât quite worked out how I can do both.â
âPerhaps you can design new houses for the workers on your home farm, and the tenants on your estate.â
âAnd risk their ire as the homes built and lived in by their ancestors, old fashioned and draughty with leaky roofs are demolished to make way for newer, more commodious and comfortable homes.â Selwyn shakes his head. âYou havenât met any of my fatherâs tenant farmers. They like their lives just as they are, and donât want the upheaval of change.â
âThey sound very much like my fatherâs tenants. They just want the leaky roofs repaired and the draughts blocked, but they donât want new houses, even if they could benefit from them. My eldest brother, Leslie, has managed to be a good influence on my father, helping sway his decisions about the estate to more modern ways of thinking, like investing in new machinery and farming differently, which has saved the Glynes estate from going into bankruptcy, or at the very least having to be partially purloined to greedy property developers, like some of our neighbours.â
âYes, Iâve heard about Brutonâs family estate troubles. All the members of our club know why we donât see much of him.â He sees the concern in Letticeâs face. âBut donât worry, Iâm a gentleman, and the soul of discretion. Heâll never hear me speak of it and cause him embarrassment.â
âThank you, Selwyn.â Lettice smiles.
âIs he going to design your future sister-in-lawâs wedding frock, then?â
âOh I do hope so, Selwyn. Gerald is such a good designer, and he is finally having some success.â
âA glimmer of hope in a dark time for the Bruton clan.â
âIndeed.â Lettice sighs.
âWell,â Selwyn says, rousing himself from his relaxed position on his side. âWe should drink to Brutonâs success.â
âWe should raise a glass to your success too, Selwyn darling.â
âAnd yours, my angel.â Selwyn ponders for a moment. âLet us toast simply to us. To all of us.â He raises his glass.
âTo us!â Lettice raises her own glass, the sound of crystal against crystal clinking in the warm summer air.
As she sips her Mozelle, Lettice stares across at Selwyn and quietly dares to hope that maybe, there might be a future for the two of them together. Hiding it with the rim of her glass, a small smile of possibility teases up the corners of her lips.
âNow, I think weâre ready for a jam tart. Donât you agree?â Selwyn asks with a smirk as he reaches in and withdraws two jewel like raspberry tarts with golden pastry shells sitting on a small gilt plate.
*The Café Royal in Regent Street, Piccadilly was originally conceived and set up in 1865 by Daniel Nicholas Thévenon, who was a French wine merchant. He had to flee France due to bankruptcy, arriving in Britain in 1863 with his wife, Célestine, and just five pounds in cash. He changed his name to Daniel Nicols and under his management - and later that of his wife - the Café Royal flourished and was considered at one point to have the greatest wine cellar in the world. By the 1890s the Café Royal had become the place to see and be seen at. It remained as such into the Twenty-First Century when it finally closed its doors in 2008. Renovated over the subsequent four years, the Café Royal reopened as a luxury five star hotel.
**Harrodâs Meat and Fish Hall (the predecessor to todayâs food hall) was opened in 1903. There was nothing like it in London at the time. Itâs interior, conceived by Yorkshire Arts and Crafts ceramicist and artist William Neatby, was elaborately decorated from floor to ceiling with beautiful Art Nouveau tiles made by Royal Doulton, and a glass roof that flooded the space with light. Completed in nine weeks it featured ornate frieze tiles displaying pastoral scenes of sheep and fish, as well as colourful glazed tiles. By the 1920s, when this scene is set, the Meat and Fish Hall was at its zenith with so much produce on display and available to wealthy patrons that you could barely see the interior.
***Completed in thirteen weeks by the contractors, Messrs. Leslie of Kensington, the classically inspired Portland Stone façade of Buckingham Palace that we all know was unveiled in autumn 1913. At the conclusion of the project the King gave a dinner at the Holborn Restaurant for the hundreds of workmen responsible for such a remarkable achievement.
****A Speakers' Corner is an area where open-air public speaking, debate, and discussion are allowed. The original and best known is in the northeast corner of Hyde Park in London. Historically there were a number of other areas designated as Speakers' Corners in other parks in London, such as Lincoln's Inn Fields, Finsbury Park, Clapham Common, Kennington Park, and Victoria Park. Areas for Speakers' Corners have been established in other countries and elsewhere in Britain.
*****Now known as the Corinthia Hotel, the Metropole Hotel is located at the corner of Northumberland Avenue and Whitehall Place in central London on a triangular site between the Thames Embankment and Trafalgar Square. Built in 1883 it functioned as an hotel between 1885 until World War I when, located so close to the Palace of Westminster and Whitehall, it was requisitioned by the government. It reopened after the war with a luxurious new interior and continued to operate until 1936 when the government requisitioned it again whilst they redeveloped buildings at Whitehall Gardens. They kept using it in the lead up to the Second World War. After the war it continued to be used by government departments until 2004. In 2007 it reopened as the luxurious Corinthia Hotel.
Beautiful as it may be, this picturesque and delicious looking picnic on the lawns may not be all it seems, for it is in fact made up of miniatures from my 1:12 miniatures collection.
Fun things to look for in this tableau include:
The picnic basket I have had since I was a young teenager, and is possibly one of the very first artisan pieces I ever bought. Bought from a high street shop that specialised in dolls and doll house miniatures, it still has its price tag of twenty five pounds on it! Sadly, I do not know who the artisan was who made this. The basket contains a baguette, some cheese, two apples, crockery, cutlery, napery, a bottle of wine and two faceted wine glasses.
The gilt edged plates, their matching salt and pepper, the cutlery and the roses all come from Beautifully Handmade Miniatures in Kettering. The napkins in their metal napkin rings came from Kathleen Knightâs Doll House Shop in the United Kingdom.
The picnic blanket being used is in reality a corner of one of my gingham shirts, which my partner derisively calls my âpicnic blanket shirtâ. The grass in the background is real, as this scene was photographed on my front lawn during the height of summer, on a lovely bright and sunny day.
Back in my early days on this planet, my farmer dad had some phrases he often used on my siblings and I. Some of them were quite descriptively funny and some brought immediate soft rebukes from my mother that rolled off him like water off an otterâs back.
We had a kitchen door that led to an unheated entry porch with exterior doors and if we were absent-minded enough to leave it open in colder seasons when we came into the house proper, he would often send us scurrying back to close it by asking the rhetorical question, âWere you born in the barn?â Puzzled me for a few years in my youth as I thought that was something he should know without asking.
For nearly ten years I have exhibited country photos at arts and craft shows a couple times a year just to intermingle with people who have an interest in barns. I have heard some wonderful stories, some that would break your heart and other stories that immediately transport me back to my upbringing on the farm as folks share their own experiences and when I hear them it is like putting on a well-worn pair of my favorite gloves.
One statement I have heard many times from older people is how they wish they would have had the money to convert their old barn into living quarters. They always say it with a degree of wistfulness that bespeaks of the part of them that never left the farm.
This photo of a superb conversion of a barn caught my eye on a wandering morning trip my wife and I took. I found myself wishing I would have had the money twenty years ago to rescue my childhood barn. But, knowing a little too much about it I am pretty sure I would have had to haul way too many loads of manure out of it which would have spoiled the adventure.

PRAYER
"O Father, give us the humility which realizes its ignorance, admits its mistakes, recognizes its need, welcomes advice, accepts rebuke. Help us always to praise rather than to criticize, to sympathize rather than to discourage, to build rather than to destroy, and to think of people at their best rather than at their worst. This we ask for thy nameâs sake. (Prayer of William Barclay, 20th century) ~ www.dailyscripture.net

Wickham Place is the London home of Lord and Lady Southgate, their children and staff. Located in fashionable Belgravia it is a fine Georgian terrace house.
Today we are below stairs in the Wickham Place kitchen. At the sink, the scullery maid Agnes scrubs the copper pots used for the preparation of upstairs luncheon with a mixture of sand and soap. Mrs. Bradley, known by most downstairs staff as Cook, is occasionally filled with a momentarily maternal instinct for her poor, bedraggled scullery maid. Watching the poor girl with her brown curls coming loose from beneath her cap, huffing and puffing away as she scrubs, creates such a burst of emotion within her breast.
âAgnes. Agnes.â
âYes Mrs. Bradley.â
âI think youâve earned the right for a quick cooking lesson.â
âOh! Oh really Mrs. Bradley!â
âYes Agnes. Now, wash and dry your hands with some of that Sunlight. Make sure you scrub under your nails, girl! And then come and join me at the table. Clean hands are essential for a good cook, and we all know that cleanliness is next to godliness!â
Cook takes out some butter, milk and a bowl of eggs from the food safe. Going to her big heavy dark wood dresser she withdraws her Cornishware canister of sugar, some flour nutmeg and salt. She also brings over a fluted flan.
âCor Mrs. Bradley! Are you going to show me how to make your famous soufflĂ©?â
âDo you take me for fool Agnes?â She looks incredulously at her scullery maid, who sighs and lowers her shoulders at the rebuke. âYou need to learn the basics of plain cooking girl, before I can teach you anything fancy. No! Weâre going to make a good, plain, custard tart for Nanny and the children. Iâm going to make the pastry, and you can make the custard. Now, do you think you can you break three eggs into that bowl there in front of you?â
âOh yes Mrs. Bradley!â
Moments later Agnes is happily and purposefully breaking eggs against the edge of the bowl. Suddenly there is a crack and a plop. Cook looks up from making pastry to see that Agnes has accidently dropped an egg onto the deal tabletop where it has cracked open, the white oozing across the tableâs surface. Agnes looks anxiously at Cook and before the older woman can speak, the poor scullery maid starts to cry.
âOh heavens Agnes!â Cook exclaims, dusting off her floured hands on her apron.
âSorry Mrs. Bradly,â Agnes sobs.
âNow girl! Thereâs no need for tears! No use crying over spilt milk, or a broken egg for that matter.â She smiles reassuring across at Agnes. âIf I cried every time I dropped an egg, why, the road outside would be running with my tears!â
âIt would, Mrs. Bradley?â
âYes, girl! Now quick! Go fetch a cloth and clean that up, and then keep going.â
The Wickham Place kitchens are situated on the ground floor of Wickham Place, adjoining the Butlerâs Pantry. It is dominated by big black leaded range, and next to it stands a heavy dark wood dresser that has been there for as long as anyone can remember. There is a white enamelled sink to one side with deep cupboards to house the necessary cleaning agents the scullery maid needs to keep the kitchen clean for the cook. In the middle of the kitchen stands Cookâs preserve, the pine deal table on which she does most of her preparation for both the meals served to the family upstairs and those for the downstairs staff.
The theme for the 14th of August âLooking Close⊠on Fridayâ is âeggsâ. This tableaux is made up of part of my 1:12 size dollhouse miniatures collection. Some pieces come from my own childhood like the ladderback chair and the milk jug. Other items I acquired as an adult through specialist online dealers and artists who specialise in 1:12 miniatures.
Fun things to look for in this tableaux include:
The eggs, including the broken egg are all 1:12 artisan miniatures with amazing attention to detail.
On Cookâs deal table is a Cornishware white and blue striped bowl which holds the eggs and also one of her Cornishware cannisters. Cornishware is a striped kitchenware brand trademarked to and manufactured by T.G. Green & Co Ltd. Originally introduced in the 1920s and manufactured in Church Gresley, Derbyshire, it was a huge success for the company and in the succeeding 30 years it was exported around the world. The company ceased production in June 2007 when the factory closed under the ownership of parent company, The Tableshop Group. The range was revived in 2009 after T.G. Green was bought by a trio of British investors.
Next to the Cornishware cannister stands a miniature Blue Calico milk jug. Traditional dark blue Burleigh Calico made in Staffordshire, England by Burgess & Leigh since 1851. It was inspired by Nineteenth Century indigo fabrics. Blue Calico is still made today, and still uses the traditional print transfer process, which makes each piece unique.
On the other side of the Cornishware cannister stands a bag of Dry Fork Four. The Dry Fork Milling Company was based in Dry Fork Virginia. They were well known for producing cornmeal. They were still producing cornmeal and flour into the 1950s. Today, part of the old mill buildings are used as a reception centre.
The sink in the background is littered with interesting items. On the left stands an old fashioned draining board which could be removed so that the space could then be used for other purposes. It is stacked with copper pots and a silver metal muffin tray. Near the taps is a box of Sunlight soap and a can of Vim, both cleaning essentials in any Edwardian household. Vim scouring powder was created by William Hesketh Lever (1st Viscount Leverhulme) and introduced to the market in 1904. It was produced at Port Sunlight in Wirrel, Merseyside, a model village built by Lever Brothers for the workers of their factories which produced the popular soap brands Lux, Lifebuoy and Sunlight. Sunlight Soap was first introduced in 1884.
To the left of the sink is the food safe with a birchwood broom leaning against it. In the days before refrigeration, or when refrigeration was expensive, perishable foods such as meat, butter, milk and eggs were kept in a food safe. Winter was easier than summer to keep food fresh and butter coolers and shallow bowls of cold water were early ways to keep things like milk and butter cool. A food safe was a wooden cupboard with doors and sides open to the air apart from a covering of fine galvanized wire mesh. This allowed the air to circulate while keeping insects out. There was usually an upper and a lower compartment, normally lined with what was known as American cloth, a fabric with a glazed or varnished wipe-clean surface. Refrigerators, like washing machines were American inventions and were not commonplace in even wealthy upper-class households until well after the Second World War.

Concerned about her beau, Selwyn Spencelyâs, true affections for her, and worried about the threat his cousin and 1923 debutante, Pamela Fox-Chavers, posed to her own potential romantic plans with Selwyn, Lettice concocted a ruse to spy on Pamela and Selwyn at the Royal Horticultural Societyâs 1923 Great Spring Show*. As luck would have it, Lettice ran into Pamela and Selwyn, quite literally in the latterâs case, and they ended up having tea together. Whilst not the appropriate place to talk about Selwynâs mother, Lady Zinnia, whom Lettice suspects of arranging a match between Selwyn and Pamela, who are cousins, Selwyn has agreed to organise a dinner with Lettice where they can talk openly about the future of their relationship and the interference of Lady Zinnia. However, whilst Lettice waits for the dinner to be arranged, she has a wonderful distraction to take her mind off things.
That is why today we are far from London, returning to Wiltshire, where Lettice grew up at Glynes, the grand Georgian family seat of the Chetwynds, and the home of Letticeâs parents, the presiding Viscount and Countess of Wrexham and the heir, their eldest son Leslie and his new wife Arabella. However, we are not at Glynes, but rather in Glynes Village at the local village hall where a much loved annual tradition is taking place. Every year the village have a summer fĂȘte, run by the local women and overseen by Letticeâs mother, Lady Sadie, to help raise money for a worthy cause in the village. The summer fĂȘte is one of the highlights of the village and country calendar as it always includes a flower show, a cake stand, stalls run by local famersâ wives selling homemade produce, games of hoopla, a coconut shy, a tombola and a jumble sale, a white elephant stall and a fortune teller â who is always local haberdasher Mrs. Maginot who has a theatrical bent and manages the Glynes theatrical players as well as her shop in the village high street. All the stalls and entertainments are held either in the village hall or the grounds surrounding it. Not only do the citizens of the village involve themselves in the fĂȘte, but also the gentry, and there is always much excitement when matriarch of the Brutons, Lady Gwyneth â Geraldâs mother, and Lady Isobel Tyrwhitt â Arabellaâs mother, attend. Neither lady have been well over the last few years with Lady Gwyneth suffering a spate of bronchial infections and Lady Isobel receiving treatment for cancer, so it is a rare treat to have both in attendance. This yearâs summer fĂȘte is a special one for Arabella in particular, for as the newly minted Mrs. Leslie Chetwynd, she now joins the effort to help run the Glynes summer fĂȘte for the first time and has been given the second-hand clothing stall to run as part of the jumble sale.
The Glynes village hall is a hive of activity, and the cavernous space resounds with running footsteps, voluble chatter from the mostly female gathering, hammering and childrenâs laughter and tears as they run riot around the adults as they set up their stalls. Mr. Lovegrove, who runs the village shop, climbs a ladder which is held by the elderly church verger Mr. Lewis and affixes the brightly coloured Union Jacks and bunting that have been used every year since the Kingâs Coronation in 1911 around the walls. Lady Sadie casts a critical eye over the white elephant stall, rearranging items to put what she considers the best quality items on more prominent display, whilst removing a select few pieces which she thinks unsuitable for sale, which she passes to Newman, her ladies maid, to dispose of. Bramley, the Chetwyndâs butler arranges and categorises books for the second-hand book stall, perhaps spending a little too much time perusing some of the titles. Mrs. Elliott who runs the Womenâs Institute manages the influx of local women bringing in cakes with regimental efficiency. And amongst all the noise, activity and excitement, Arabella busies herself unpacking boxes of old clothes and tries her best to make her trestle an attractive addition to the summer fĂȘte. Lettice perches on an old bentwood chair, offering suggestions to her sister-in-law whilst pulling faces as she lifts up various donations before depositing them in disgust where they had been beforehand.
âHere we are then,â Gerald announces as he walks across the busy floor of the hall bearing a wooden tray containing several teacups and a plate of cupcakes from the refreshments stand, narrowly avoiding Mrs. Lovegroveâs two youngest children as they chase one another around his legs. The sound of his jolly call and his footsteps joining all the other cacophony of setting up going on around him. âRefreshments for the hard workers,â he looks at Arabella. âAnd the not-so-hard-workers.â he looks at Lettice.
âDonât be cheeky!â Lettice says to him with a hard stare, letting a limp stocking fall from her hand and collapse into a wrinkled pool on the trestle tableâs surface.
Gerald puts the three tea cups down where he can find a surface on Arabellaâs trestle table, followed by a long blue and gilt edged platter on which sit three very festive cupcakes featuring Union Jacks made of marzipan sticking out of white clouds of icing.
âMrs. Castertonâs special cupcakes.â he announces proudly with a beaming smile.
âHow on earth did you get those, Gerald?â gasps Lettice in surprise, eyeing the dainty cakes greedily. âMrs. Casterton hasnât let me take food from her kitchen since I started dining at the table with the rest of the family, never mind pinch anything from her stall for the fundraiser!â
âIt helps when you arenât her employerâs indulged youngest child.â Gerald says, tapping his nose knowingly.
âI was not an indulged child!â Lettice defends, raising her hand to the boat neckline of her frock and grasping her single strand of creamy white pearls hanging about her neck. âYou were more indulged by Aunt Gwen than I ever was by Mater or Pater.â
âOh, just ignore him, Tice!â laughs Arabella from her place behind the trestle. âYou know Gerald has always had the ability to charm anything from anyone when he wants to.â
âThatâs true,â Lettice replies, eyeing Gerald with a cocked eyebrow and a bemused smile as she picks up her magenta and gilt rimmed cup and sips her tea. âI had forgotten that.â
âWhat can I say?â laughs Gerald proudly with a shrug of his shoulders.
âItâs not so much what you can say as what you can do, Gerald.â mutters Arabella with a frustrated sigh.
âI am at your service, my lady?â Gerald replies, making a sweeping bow before Arabella and Lettice, who both laugh at his jester like action.
âBe careful what you promise, Gerald.â giggles Lettice.
âBella would never expect too much from me, Lettice.â Gerald retorts with a smile. âSheâs known me all her life and she knows what my limitations are.â
âWell, I was hoping you could help me by working some magic on my second hand clothing stall.â Arabella remarks with another frustrated sigh as she tugs at the old fashioned shirtwaister** blouse with yellowing lace about the collar. âIâve tried and tried all morning, but nothing I seem to do helps make anything look more modern and more attractive to buy.â
Lettice and Gerald look around at Arabellaâs stall. The shirtwaister outfit with its pretty, albeit slightly marked, lace, tweed skirt and leather belt with a smart, yet old fashioned Art Nouveau buckle really is the most attractive piece that she has on display. Around it on the surface of her trestle are a jumble of yellowing linen napkins complete with tarnished napkin rings, a selection of embroidered, tatted*** and crocheted doilies, mismatched pairs of leather and lace gloves and several rather worn looking hats that are really only suitable for gardening now, rather than being worn to church services on Sunday.
âI warned you Gerald.â Lettice says with a knowing wink.
âDonât you remember how much we all felt sorry for whomever ran the second-hand clothing stall at the fĂȘte each year as children, Bella?â Gerald asks.
âIt was always the short straw.â Lettice adds.
âYes, being stuck under the piercing stare of His Majesty.â Gerald indicates to the portrait of King George V, dating back to the pre-war years when the King still had colour in his hair.
âThe worst stall to have because none of the villagers ever seem to have anything nice or remotely fashionable to donate, even for a good cause like new books for the village school.â Lettice picks up a pretty primrose yellow napkin. âThese are nice at least.â
âExcept there are only three of them.â points out Arabella with a disappointed air. âI canât seem to find a fourth.â She picks up a red dyed straw hat in the vain hope that it will be there, even though she has searched beneath it three times already. âAnd Iâve looked everywhere.â
âTea for two, perhaps?â Gerald suggests hopefully as he picks up his own teacup and takes a sip of tea.
âOh, you two are no help!â scoffs Arabella. âIâve a right mind to stick you both with these!â She grasps a pair of knitting needles complete with some rather dreadfully made rows of incomplete knitting and a ball of wool and thrusts them through the air between she, Lettice, and Gerald. âTheyâll get you working.â
âEven if they do, Bella, we arenât miracle workers.â remarks Gerald.
All three of them laugh good heartedly.
âOh I must make the best of it,â Arabella sighs resignedly as she tugs at the left leg-of-mutton sleeve**** of the shirtwaister. âAfter all, this is my first year as Leslieâs wife, and the first jumble sale I am actively helping to run to help raise funds for the village. I must make this stall a success no matter what.â The steely determination in her voice surprises her as she speaks. âIâm a Chetwynd now, and I canât disappoint the villagers with a poor show.â
âNor Mater.â adds Lettice, taking another sip of tea.
âNo indeed!â agrees Gerald. âLady Sadie will be judging you from afar, Bella, rest assured. If your stall isnât a great success, youâll hear about it.â
âIn a dozen little quips.â Lettice adds.
âMore like a hundred.â corrects Gerald.
âTearing delicately phrased strips off you.â agrees Lettice.
âInflicting as much pain for as long as possible.â adds Gerald with seriousness.
âOh stop, Gerald!â laughs Arabella. âShe isnât anywhere near as much of a dragon as you and Tice paint her to be.â
âYouâve only been married to the family for a little while now,â Lettice counters, looking at her sister-in-law over the magenta and gilt painted rim of her cup. âAnd you and Leslie have your own lives and are left pretty much to your own devices down in the Glynes Dower House from what I can gather. Weâll give you a little while longer to find out the truth about your wicked mother-in-law.â She smiles cheekily.
âI have grown up alongside you, going in and out of your house, Tice,â Arabella replies with a dismissive wave of her hand. âSo itâs not like Sadie is an unknown quantity to me.â
âBut youâve never been a recipient of her acerbic tongue either, Iâll wager.â adds Gerald dourly. âYouâre far too sweet and compliant a young daughter-in-law for that, but both Lettice and I have.â
âI still donât know,â Lettice queries, turning her attention to Gerald. âWhat was it you said to Mater that night of Hunt Ball that set her so against you, Gerald? Iâve never known her to take against anyone so vehemently, except perhaps poor Aunt Egg who can never do any right in her eyes.â
Gerald blushes, remembering the altercation he had with Letticeâs mother, Lady Sadie, at the ball. In a slightly inebriated state he told her that neither she nor Lettice had any sway over Selwyn Spencelyâs choice of a wife, any more than Selwyn did himself, explaining that it was his mother, the Duchess of Mumford, Lady Zinnia, who would choose a wife for him. âI keep telling you, darling girl. I really donât remember,â he replies awkwardly, covering his tracks as best as he can. âIf you remember, I was rather tight***** that night on your fatherâs champagne.â
âWell,â Arabella says with a sigh. âIâm determined not to incur her wrath, even though Iâm sure itâs nowhere near as awful as you two suggest.â
âOh-oh!â Gerald mutters under his breath to Lettice. âIn coming.â
âOh no.â moans Lettice quietly in return behind the painted smile she places on her face as she, Gerald and Arabella are suddenly set upon by the Miss Evanses, the two spinster sisters who live in Holland House, a Seventeenth Century manor house in the village.
The trio smile benignly as the two sisters twitter to one another in crackling voices that sound like crisp autumn leaves underfoot as they approach them.
âWell, twice in as many weeks, Miss Chetwynd!â exclaims the younger of the Miss Evanses in delight, a joyous smile spreading across her dry, unpainted lips. âLast week at the Royal Horticultural Societyâs Great Spring Show, and now here! How very blessed we are to see you again.â
âHow do you do, Miss Evans, Miss Evans,â Lettice acknowledges them both with a curt nod from her seat. She glances at the two old women, who must be in their seventies at least, both dressed in a similar style to when she saw them last week at the Royal Horticultural Societyâs Great Spring Show, in floral gowns of pre-war Edwardian era length, their equally old fashioned whale bone S-bend corsets****** forcing their breasts into giant monobosoms down which sautoirs******* of glittering Edwardian style beads on gold chains cascade. Wearing toques with feather aigrettes jutting out of them atop their waved white hair they look like older versions of Queen Mary.
âIâm afraid you are a little early for the jumble sale, Miss Evans and Miss Evans,â Arabella remarks sweetly. âWe are still setting up.â
âOh, thank you! We know, Mrs. Chetwynd.â twitters the elder of the Miss Evanses, surprising Arabella a little as she still gets used to being referred to by her new married name. âI was just remarking to Henrietta this very morning over breakfast that we do so much look forward to the village fĂȘte every year.â
âYes, itâs a nice way for us to be able to support the local community in our own small way, isnât that right Geraldine?â enthuses her sister, raising her white lace glove clad hand to her wrinkled and dry mouth as she giggles in a rather unseemly girlish way.
âIndeed yes, Henrietta. It is to aid the school this year, is it not?â
âIt is Miss Evans.â Arabella confirms. âTo help buy new books for the children.â
âA very fine cause, I must say,â the younger of the Miss Evanses remarks indulgently. âHelping the young ones to read and develop their fertile minds. Rather like gardening, wouldnât you say?â
âIt is not even remotely like gardening!â quips her sister. âStop talking such nonsense Henrietta.â
âWe shall of course be glad of your patronage when the jumble sale opens in an hour.â Arabella quickly says in an effort to diffuse any unpleasantness between the two spinster sisters, at the same time emphasising the time the sale begins.
âWell,â adds the elder of the Miss Evanses seriously. âWe shall of course come and spend a few shillings and pence when it opens officially, butâŠâ
âOh!â interrupts the younger of the Miss Evanses. âIs your frock designed by Master Bruton, Miss Chetwynd?â She addresses Gerald in the old fashioned deference of the village and county folk when addressing the children of the bigger aristocratic houses.
âYes, Miss Evans. Mr. Bruton,â Lettice applies gravatas to the correct reference to Geraldâs name now that he is of age. âDid design my frock.â
âOh itâs ever so smart!â the younger of the sisters enthuses.
âThank you, Miss Evans.â Gerald acknowledges her.
âAnd your hat?â Miss Evans points to the yellow straw hat. âDidnât I see you wearing that at Master Leslieâs wedding to Miss Arabella?â
âMrs. Chetwynd, I think you mean, Henrietta.â corrects her sister with a sharpness to her remark.
âOh yes!â bristles the younger Miss Evans at her sisterâs harsh correction, raising her hand to her mouth again. âYes of course! Mrs. Chetwynd, I do apologise.â
âItâs quite alright, Miss Evans.â Arabella assures her. âI am still getting used to being Mrs. Chetwynd myself.â
âHow very observant of you, Miss Evans.â Lettice addresses the younger of the siblings. âI did indeed have my hat made for Leslie and Bellaâs wedding. It was made by a friend of Mr. Brutonâs, Miss Harriet Milford.â
âYes, well thinking of hats, IâŠâ begins the elder Miss Evans.
âOh itâs most becoming, Miss Chetwynd.â the younger Miss Evans interrupts her sister again as she compliments Lettice in an obsequious manner, followed by another twittering giggle.
âI can send someone down to Holland House this afternoon after the fĂȘte with her details if you like.â Lettice replies. âThe next time youâre in London, you might pay her a call.â
The two sisters give one another a sour look at the idea, their lips thinning and their eyes lowering as they nod to one another in unison before turning back to Lettice and Gerald.
âAside from the Great Spring Show, we donât have much call to go up to London these days, do we Henrietta?â
âIndeed no, Geraldine.â agrees the younger Miss Evans between pursed lips, a tinge of regret in her statement.
âBesides we find the services of Mrs. Maginotâs in the high street to be quite adequate.â
âGood lord!â gasps Gerald, causing the two spinster sisters to blush at his strong language. âIs old Mrs. Maginot still going?â He chuckles. âFancy that!â
The elder Miss Evans clears her dry and raspy throat awkwardly before continuing. âFor our more bucolic, and doubtlessly simple tastes, Master Bruton, we find Mrs. Maginot to be quite satisfactory.â Both sisters raise their lace gloved hands to their toques in unison, patting the runched floral cotton lovingly. âWe arenât quite as fashionable as you smart and select London folk down here in sleepy little Glynes, Master Bruton, Miss Chetwynd, but we manage to keep up appearances.â
âOn indeed yes, Miss Evans.â Lettice replies with an amused smile. âNo-one could fault you on maintaining your standards.â
âI imagine you will soon be designing Miss Chetwndâs own wedding frock, Master Bruton.â the younger of the Miss Evanses announces rather vulgarly.
âThatâs only if I let her get married, Miss Evans,â Gerald teases her indulgently. âI might like to whisk her away and lock her in a tower so that I can keep her all to myself.â
âAfter what we all saw with our own eyes at the Hunt Ball, Iâm sorry Master Bruton, but I donât think you are in the running for Miss Chetwyndâs affections!â the younger Miss Evans twittering giggle escapes her throat yet again as her eyes sparkle with delight at the very faintest whiff of any gossip.
âHow is Mr. Spencely, Miss Chetwynd?â the elder Miss Evans asks pointedly, her scrutinising gaze studying Letticeâs face.
Lettice blushes at the directness of both Miss Evansâ question and her steely gaze. âOh, heâs quite well, as far as I know, Miss Evans.â she replies awkwardly.
âAs far as you know?â the older womanâs outraged tone betrays her surprise as she looks quizzically into Letticeâs flushed face.
âWell, I havenât seen Selw⊠err, Mr. Spencely just as of late.â
âOh?â the elder Miss Evans queries. âI thought we saw you leave the tent we were in at the Great Spring Show, on the arm of Mr. Spencely.â
âYes, Iâm sure it was him, Miss Chetwynd.â adds the younger Miss Evans as she raises a lace clad finger in thought. âHeâs very striking and hard to mistake for someone else.â
Silently Lettice curses the beady eyed observation the two spinster sisters are known for. Of course, they of all people at the bustling and crowded Chelsea flower show, noticed her inadvertent stumble into Selwyn and then her departure with him. Although perfectly innocent, and accompanied by her married friend Margot Channon, and Selwynâs cousin, Pamela Fox-Chavers, she can see how easily the Miss Evanses can construe the situation to their own advantage of spreading salacious London gossip about Lettice, as daughter of the local squire, around the citizenry of Glynes village.
âI believe you were here for a purpose, Miss Evans.â Gerald pipes up, quickly defending his best friend from any more uncomfortable cross examination.
âOh,â the elder Miss Evans replies, the disappointment at the curtailing of her attempt to gather gossip clear in both her tone of voice and the fall of her thin and pale face. âYes.â She turns to Arabella. âI have actually come early today to see you on business, Mrs. Chetwynd.â
âMe, Miss Evans?â Arabella raises her hand to the scalloped collar of her blouse and toys with the arrow and heart gold and diamond broach there â a wedding gift from her husband.
âYes.â replies the elder of the two sisters. âYou see, when I heard that you were running the second-hand stall this year, I did feel sorry for you.â
âSorry for me, Miss Evans?â
âYes,â she replies, screwing up her eyes. âFor as you know, there is always a poor offering of donated goods by the other villagers, and it makes for a rather sad and depressing sight amidst all this gaiety.â She gesticulates over Arabellaâs trestle with a lace glove clad hand, sending forth the whiff of lavender, cloves and camphor in the process.
âUnless you are donating one of your lovely frocks to the sale, Master Bruton?â the younger of the Miss Evanses adds with a hopeful lilt in her voice. âI should buy it, even if it didnât fit me.â
Gerald splutters and chokes on the gulp of tea he has just taken as the question is posed of him. Coughing, he deposits his cup quickly and withdraws a large white handkerchief which he uses to cover his mouth and muffle his coughs.
âOh, poor Master Bruton!â exclaims the younger of the Miss Evanses as she reaches out and gently, but pointlessly, taps Gerald on the shoulder in an effort to help him. âDid you tea go down the wrong way?â
âI arrest my case.â her elder sister snaps giving Gerald a steely, knowing look.
âNow be fair, Miss Evans,â Lettice defends her friend, filled with a sudden burst of anger towards the hypocritical old woman, who despite having plenty of money of her own, only spends a few shillings at the fundraiser every year. âGerald is still establishing himself in London! He cannot afford to give one of his frocks away when he has to pour what little profit he currently makes back into supporting and promoting his atelier.â
âAs you like, Miss Chetwynd.â Miss Evans replies dismissively. âIt is a pity though that neither Master Bruton, nor yourself could cast something Mrs. Chetwyndâs way, to help make her stall more,â She pauses momentarily as she considers the correct word. âAppealing.â
Lettice feels the harshness of the old womanâs rebuke, but she says nothing as she feels a flush of shame rise up her neck and fill her face.
âGeraldine!â her younger sister scolds her. âThatâs most uncharitable of you.â
âCharity, my dear Henrietta, begins at home.â She looks critically at the knotted half completed knitting, the yellow and age stained linen and the mismatched gloves. âAnd Mrs, Chetwynd, I see that try as you might, you cannot disguise the usually dispirited efforts of the village used clothing drive this year.â
âOh, well I havenât really finished setting up yet, Miss Evans.â Arabella defends herself. âThere are still some things to unpack from the boxes behind me.â She indicates to several large wooden crates stacked up behind her against the wall under the watchful gaze of the King.
âWhich are items that doubtlessly didnât sell last year, or the year before that have been shuffled away, only to make their annual reappearance.â
âPerhaps you have something appealing,â Lettice emphasises her re-use of the elder Miss Evansâ word as she tries to regain some moral standing against the older woman. âTo offer at this yearâs second-hand clothing stall, Miss Evans.â
âAs a matter of fact,â the elder Miss Evans replies with a self-satisfied smile and sigh. âThat is exactly why I am here.â
With a groaning heave, she foists the wicker basket, the handle of which she has been grasping in her bony right hand, up onto the trestle tableâs surface. She opens one of the floral painted flaps and withdraws a large caramel felt Edwardian style picture hat of voluminous pre-war proportions from within the basketâs interior. The brim of the hat is trimmed with coffee and gold braid, woven into an ornate pattern whilst the crown is smothered in a magnificent display of feathers in curlicues and the brim decorated with sprigs or ornate autumnal shaded foliage and fruit.
âAs I said, charity begins at home, so I thought I would add some style and panache to your stall, Mrs. Chetwynd, with the addition of this beautiful hat.â
âOh, thank you, Miss Evans.â Arabella says with a sweet, yet slightly forced smile as the older woman tears off a smaller blue stiffed lace hat from a wooden hatstand and replaces it with her enormous millinery confection.
âI know it is only a hat from Mrs. Maginot, and not a London milliner,â she looks pointedly at Lettice. âBut I dare say it will be more than suitable for our modest little country jumble sale.â
âOh Iâm sure it will be,â Arabella lies politely as she looks in dismay at the old fashioned headwear.
âGeraldine!â gasps her sister in disbelief. âYou love that hat! I remember you had Mrs. Maginot make it for the Kingâs Coronation celebrations at great expense!â
âThatâs true, Henrietta, but it just sits in a box at home these days and never gets worn anymore. It seems a shame to hide it away when it could look fetching on anotherâs head in church on Sunday. No-one will have anything to rival it. Not even you, Miss Chetwynd.â
âI agree with that,â whispers Lettice discreetly into Geraldâs ear, unnoticed by either of the spinster sisters. âIâd rather die than be caught in that ghastly thing. It looks every minute of itâs age.â
âJust a touch Miss Havisham, donât you think?â Gerald whispers back, causing both he and Lettice to quietly snort and stifle their giggles.
âWell, that really is most kind of you, Miss Evans.â Arabella says loudly and brightly with a polite nod of acknowledgement, anxious to cover up the mischievous titters from her friend and sister-in-law.
âItâs my pleasure.â she replies with a beatific smile. âWell, we shanât hold you up any longer from doing your setting up of the clothes, Mrs. Chetwynd. Come along Henrietta. Letâs go and make sure Mr. Beatty has my floral arrangement in a suitably advantageous place. Iâm not having it shunted to the back like last year.â
âOh, yes Geraldine.â her sister replies obsequiously.
Lettice, Gerald and Arabella watch as the two old ladies slowly retreat and heave a shared sigh of relief.
Gerald deposits his cup on the trestleâs surface and walks up to the grand Edwardian hat and snatches it off the wooden stand before placing it atop his own head with a sweeping gesture. âDo you think it suits me?â he laughs.
Lettice and Arabella laugh so much they cannot answer.
âWell,â Gerald sighs, returning the hat to the stand. âEven if Hattie could make hats a hundred times more fashionable than this, maybe some local lady who is a bit behind the times will want to take this beauty home.â He arranges it carefully on the rounded block so that it shows off the autumnal themed fruit garland pinned to the wide felt brim.
âThatâs the spirit I need, Gerald.â Arabella manages to say as she recovers from laughing at her friendâs theatrical modelling of the hat, and quietly she hopes that someone will buy the hat and everything else she has in her remit to sell, to help raise money for schoolbooks for the local village and country children that attend the Glynes Village School.
*May 20 1913 saw the first Royal Horticultural Society flower show at Chelsea. What we know today as the Chelsea Flower Show was originally known as the Great Spring Show. The first shows were three day events held within a single marquee. The King and Queen did not attend in 1913, but the King's Mother, Queen Alexandra, attended with two of her children. The only garden to win a gold medal before the war was also in 1913 and was awarded to a rock garden created by John Wood of Boston Spa. In 1919, the Government demanded that the Royal Horticultural Society pay an entertainment tax for the show â with resources already strained, it threatened the future of the Chelsea Flower Show. Thankfully, this was wavered once the Royal Horticultural Society convinced the Government that the show had educational benefit and in 1920 a special tent was erected to house scientific exhibits. Whilst the original shows were housed within one tent, the provision of tents increased after the Great War ended. A tent for roses appeared and between 1920 and 1934, there was a tent for pictures, scientific exhibits and displays of garden design. Society garden parties began to be held, and soon the Royal Horticultural Societyâs Great Spring Show became a fixture of the London social calendar in May, attended by society ladies and their debutante daughters, the occasion used to parade the latter by the former. The Chelsea Flower Show, though not so exclusive today, is still a part of the London Season.
**A shirtwaister is a woman's dress with a seam at the waist, its bodice incorporating a collar and button fastening in the style of a shirt which gained popularity with women entering the workforce to do clerical work in the late Nineteenth and early Twentieth Centuries.

******Created by a specific style of corset popular between the turn of the Twentieth Century and the outbreak of the Great War, the S-bend is characterized by a rounded, forward leaning torso with hips pushed back. *******A Sautoir is a long necklace consisting of a fine gold chain and typically set with jewels, a style typically fashionable in the late Nineteenth and early Twentieth Centuries.
Whilst this charming village fĂȘte scene may appear real to you, it is in fact part of my 1:12 miniatures collection, including items from my own childhood.
Fun things to look for in this tableau include:
Perhaps the main focus of our image, the elder Miss Evansâ camel coloured wide brimmed Edwardian picture hat is made of brown felt and is trimmed with miniature coffee coloured braid. The brim is decorated with hand curled feathers, dyed to match the shade of the hat, as well as a spray of golden âgrapesâ and dyed flowers. Acquired from an American miniatures collector who was divesting herself of some of her collection, I am unsure who the maker was, other than it was made by an American miniature artisan.
The shirtwaister dummy, complete with lace blouse, tweed skirt and Art Nouveau belt attached to a lacquered wooden base, is an artisan miniature as well, once again by an unknown person. It came from Kathleen Knightâs Doll House Shop in the United Kingdom.
The divine little patriotic cupcakes, each with a Union Jack on the top, has been made in England by hand from clay by former chef turned miniature artisan, Frances Knight. Her work is incredibly detailed and realistic, and she says that she draws her inspiration from her years as a chef and her imagination. Each cupcake is only five millimetres in diameter and eight millimetres in height! The plate on which they stand and the teacups on the table are made by the Dolls House Emporium and are part of a larger sets including plates, tureens and gravy boats.
Miss Evansâ wicker picnic basket that can be seen peeping out near the right-hand side of the picture was made by an unknown miniature artisan in America. The floral patterns on the top have been hand painted. The hinged lids lift, just like a real hamper, so things can be put inside. When I bought it, it arrived containing the little yellow napkins folded into triangles and the hand embroidered placemats that you see on the table in the foreground.
The knitting needles and tiny 1:12 miniature knitting, the red woven straw hat, the doilies, the stockings and the napkins in their round metal rings all came from Kathleen Knightâs Doll House Shop in the United Kingdom. The elbow length grey ttravelling gloves on the table are artisan pieces made of kid leather. I acquired these from a high street dolls house specialist when I was a teenager. Amazingly, they have never been lost in any of the moves that they have made over the years are still pristinely clean.
The wooden boxes in the background with their Edwardian advertising labels have been purposely aged and came from The Dollsâ House Supplier in the United Kingdom.
The Portrait of King George V in the gilt frame in the background was created by me using a portrait of him done just before the Great War of 1914 â 1918. I also created the Union Jack bunting that is draped across the wall in the background.
Took some pics today and this was one.
For the two hostages who died in the Sydney siege, a couple of hours ago.
I've just watched the event unfold live on telly.
The terrorist was also killed, but no flowers for him.
I have no succinct words to describe such a being who comes to a new country and abuses the freedom handed to him.
I can still remember the last time I strolled down Martin Place, with a very dear Israeli work friend and her husband.
Gosh, that could've been sometime in the 80's..
They had me in stitches, telling me funny stories as we came up the steps from the underground railway out into the sunshine of a beautiful day, filled with hundreds of people, busy going along the newly renovated piazza style street where the Cenotaph had been revamped and held pride of place.
The Cenotaph, the most significant war memorial in Sydney, where masses gather to honour the fallen on those important days and reflect on their sacrifice for our freedom.
How things have changed.
I miss my beloved Sydney, but it's one of those days I appreciate that I live so far from it.
This has been coming at us for decades over which our larrikin humour has been muted, our right to stand up has been rebuked, our own freedom of speech and lifestyle have softened, warped and pulverised by political correctness, lest we upset any newcomers.
Like rearranging our home to suit a stranger who visits, so they will like us better.
I will conclude that I'm sick of feeling like a hostage in my own country.
Yes, I have plenty more to say.
No edits on the pic, but massively on the comm.
And no, I am not a racist.
But so much for LEST WE FORGET âŠ

Ladies and gentlemen of the Bijou Planks, welcome to Tuesday Night Fights ring... KINNIKUMAN!
*gasp*
So that's HIM! The original! The archetype!
Suguru began as a lazy and emotional man who always wishes to become famous. He often chased after women, while moving from job to job, until the Chojin Olympics, where he found his purpose as a chojin wrestler. He slowly grew a more serious personality while developing close friendships with the Justice Chojin. Before the end, Kinnikuman is crowned king of Planet Kinniku.
Suguru is a very childish character. He is also very arrogant and believes himself to be more popular than he is in reality. He complains when he does not get his way, pouts when someone gets more attention then him, and is often downright lazy. Early on, he would often refuse to fight certain monsters unless he got something in return. However, underneath this childish behaviour lies a very noble heart, and when times are at their worst, Suguru's courage surpasses that of the greatest of Justice Chojins. He has been known to fight better depending on how shameful or dishonourable his opponent is being. His honour and friendship has warmed the hearts of several an Evil Chojin.
Kinnikuman is a highly muscular man with exaggerated facial features, and a mask with a 'fin' piece that runs down the back of his head. He has naturally dark brown/black hair and blue eyes, with pale skin and very little clothes. If he does wear formal attire, it is usually in the form of unfashionable suits; a white suit to his wedding, a yellow suit with red swirls to dates and sometimes ceremonies.
Suguru is also lecherous and sometimes takes part in matches to impress women. Suguru often flirts with women, and has on numerous times tried to spy on his friends Mari Nikaido and Natsuko Shono. No women find him attractive except for Bibimba. However, when Bibimba first appears, it is a one-sided love on her part and he finds her more annoying than cute. By the time of the Seven Devil ChĆjin Arc, he acknowledges her as his betrothed. During the Survivor Match for the Kinniku Throne Arc, he shows great concern for her and admits that he believes they are bound by the 'red string of fate'.
Terryman is the best friend of Kinnikuman. The two meet very early on in their careers, in their early twenties, and are at first antagonistic to one another, but soon they socialise on a regular basis, even with other members of each other's social circles. They form a tag-team that lasts for the entirety of their career, and - even when they temporarily argue or part - always reunite to work together and support each other. They display an unconditional trust and affection, often listening to one another when they would listen to no one else.
Bibimba at first is antagonistic to Kinnikuman, as she attempts to take his life (as per her role as an assassin). It is Kinnikuman's kindness that drives her to see him as a complex individual, and she develops a crush on him, which is - at first - one-sided and not reciprocated. Kinnikuman views her as a nuissance and often devises ways to be rid of Bibimba. At some point during the Universal Tag Tournament, they become engaged and act on a much more intimate level.
By the time of the Surivor Match Arc, Kinnikuman and Bibimba show great affection for one another, and Bibimba is even willing to sacrifice her life in order to save Kinnikuman, who also shows unconditional love towards her (wishing to be with her, even when he thinks she may be deformed). They proceed to later be married, and have a child together: Mantaro Kinniku. The two are shown to be close in the manga, where they celebrate and support their son together at multiple points.
In the beginning, Suguru would fights Kaiju by eating garlic and growing 30 meters tall. Despite his great strength and skill, Suguru is clumsy by nature. This causes most people to fear him more than the monsters he fights (due mostly to the possibility of him crashing into buildings while in his giant form). Even though a chojin's' wounds heal faster than a human's wound, it takes him longer to heal than a human.
Kinnikuman grows up alone on Earth, after being accidentally abandoned by Mayumi Kinniku. He is found by Meat Alexandria, and proceeds to mature over time with Meat as his second, leading him to befriend Terryman. Kinnikuman enters a series of tournaments, increasing his amount of friends and trophies, and finally competes in the Survivor Match for the Kinniku Throne Arc, where he proves his worth as a member of the Kinniku Clan and learns of his long-lost brother: Ataru Kinniku. This leads to him proclaiming his love for Bibimba, before assuming the throne as king of Planet Kinniku.
Prehistory
Suguru was born to Mayumi Kinniku and Sayuri Kinniku, the king and queen of Planet Kinniku on April 1, 1960. Suguru was so unattractive, even as a child, that on several occasions Mayumi would have an urge to strangle him just from looking at him. One day, the royal family went on vacation to Earth. While there, a pig sneaked aboard and got into Suguru's cradle. Mayumi mistook Suguru for the pig and threw Suguru out of the ship. Suguru was left behind on Earth to raise himself.
He built his own house, which only had one room, and tried to go to school, but he was so academically challenged that he flunked out. As he got older, he decided to become a hero like Ultraman. But despite his muscles and strength, he was too clumsy and lacked the intelligence to make it, so he settled for just being the president of the Gyudon Lovers Club.
Kaijuu Extermination Arc
Solo Life
At the age of 20, Kinnikuman had already become known as a worthless chojin, however he wasn't completely dismissed. When the Earth Defence Force learned of an upcoming attack by space kaiju, Kinnikuman was contacted because of the unavailability of the super heroes such as The Ultra Brothers, PP-Man, and Spider-Man. While being shown images of the kaiju coming to attack (such as Okamarasu, Eraginesu, Abdullah, Sheikian, and Acrobat-Seijin), he learned that he needed to create a finishing move. After a brief training session, he was able to find a technique that surpassed his Kinniku Flash, the Kinniku Beam. When the time came for the kaiju to arrive, a member of the EDF reported that, due to the embarrassment of having to fight Kinnikuman, they all turned back.
At some point during this time in his life, Kinnikuman grew an infatuation with pop idol Takahara Nana, having bought many of her records. In order to win Nana's heart, Kinnikuman attempted tried to impress her by showing of his muscles which only ended up angering her more. As a last resort, he called his kaiju henchman, Gorizaemon, to fake a kidnapping attempt on her in which Kinnikuman would save her. The plan backfired as Gorizaemon really did try to kidnap Nana. However, Kinnikuman was able to defeat his henchman and brought Nana to safety. By a simple misunderstanding, Nana thought that her manager, Hitoshi, had saved her and thus ran into his arms, much to Kinnikuman's disappointment.
Save Planet Kinniku
Kinnikuman received a visit from Alexandria Meat, who had been dispatched to find the Kinniku prince and bring him back. 5 Since Suguru's abandonment, the pig (King Tone) had taken over Planet Kinniku, and Kinnikuman was needed to defeat him. Kinnikuman, however, had no intention of going so was forced into a steel cage death match against Gouriki. He was able to win the match, thanks to the comical faces he made while he was being bear hugged, but was eventually bribed into going by Meat with a gyuudon.
When the two returned to Planet Kinniku, both of Kinnikuman's parents gave him a warm welcoming, as well as telling him of his name being Suguru. Kinnikuman's goal was to defeat King Tone in a three-round match of judo, boxing, and wrestling. Unfortunately, despite the confidence he displayed before the start of each match, he lost to Tone 0-3. Shortly after Tone's original owner, a butcher, chased him away from Planet Kinniku never to be seen again. 11 With the title now opened, Mayumi reclaimed his throne. Because of Suguru's disappointing match, Meat was ordered to bring him back to Earth and train him until he was a true hero.
Kaiju Fights
Kinnikuman and Meat began settling in the small house, doing normal activities. 13 After watching a television show, Kinnikuman gets the idea to fight the Loch Ness Monster and get it broadcast to boost his ratings as a chojin. After proving himself by defeating a kaiju, which was actually just a robot built by Meat, Kinnikuman was able to get the right to fight Nessie on air. Unfortunately, when Nessie finally did arrive, it turned out to be many times larger than Kinnikuman's giant form. Nessie simply licked him, which caused him to pass out.
Kinnikuman was introduced to Nikaido Mari, a preschool teacher and friend of Meat. Both he and Meat developed an obvious crush on Mari and would take different trips with her and her class, despite the fact that they would always beat him up. On their first trip to the preschool, the kaijuu Franky began attacking but actually gained the friendship of some of the children. Kinnikuman, who was hated by the children, wasn't able to fight but, Meat was able to come up with a strategy that caused Franky to run away.
After an encounter with the kaijuu Abdullah, Kinnikuman and Meat met The Terryman, an American chojin from Texas. Terryman would charge for his services against kaiju, but he became increasingly popular in Japan, much to Kinnikuman's dismay. After a while, Terryman came to Kinnikuman's house to brag of becoming Japan's sole super hero. An attack made Sheikian, caused a boy run to Terryman, saying he needed him to rescue his father. When Terryman kicked the boy, because he didn't have enough money, Kinnikuman, enraged, hit Terryman, gave the boy back his money, and went to rescue the boy's father. Terryman, after hearing the words of the Yamato Spirit from Kinnikuman, gave up his hero badge and went to help Kinnikuman fight Sheik-Seijin.
Roots Island Arc
Kunta first appears in the male onsen , where she throws herself on Kinnikuman and begs for his help. 19 Natsuko introduces Kunta as the princess of Roots Island, and Kunta explains that her island has been overrun by Kaiju, as well as that many warriors have been killed by Ukon. When Terryman and Kinnikman agree to the job, she gives each of them a kiss on the cheek, before they ride on Miss Karasu to the island in order to defeat the Kaiju.
As they arrive, they are greeted by Elder Yosaku, and introduces them to the last warrior of the island: Tabuchi. Kinnikuman and Terryman travel together to Roots Island to help Kunta and save the islanders. Octopus Dragon stops Kinnikuman from growing to giant size, by placing a tentacle on his head. The two then exchange blows, taking it in turns to swing one another and swapping body slams, until Octopus Dragon becomes intimidated, as he thinks Kinnikuman knows the moves of the Ultraman family. He is ultimately defeated by a Kinniku Flash. After they defeat Harigoras and Octopus King, a piece of meat appears before Kinnikuman and he eats the meat. Custom dictates whomever eats the meat must fight Ukon one-on-one in battle. It is meat thrown by Ukon in a challenge.
Kinnikuman goes to a Colosseum, who has taken Kunta hostage and is attacked by the locals with various objects, as they throw things into the Colosseum. Tabuchi tries to save the princess, but Ukon flicks him away with a giant finger. When Kinnikuman climbs a pole to escape, Ukon shakes it to get him down. Kinnikuman soon loses the fight, causing Ukon to rule over the people and turn them into slaves. Kinnikuman becomes his servant, but - when lighting a cigar for Ukon - he sets Ukon on fire in a blaze.
The skin melts off Ukon, revealing he was a robot all along. When he kidnaps Kunta once more, the locals call upon Mammora to save them. Mammora picks Kinnikuman up on his back and flies towards Ukon, whom they smash into a wall to remove his arm. Kinnikuman uses the Kinniku Flash, but it does not work on Ukon. After several exchanges of blows, Mammora destroys Ukon and it is revealed Kinkotsuman and Iwao were working the robot the entire time, but they soon run away. When Kunta is rescued, she pays Terryman and Kinnikuman with stone money (which they cannot use).
20th Chojin Olympics
Preliminary Rounds
Mayumi went to Earth to tell his son about the upcoming Chojin Olympics. Kinnikuman was convinced he was a shoe-in for the Japanese representative, due to Uldraman humiliating defeat at the hands of England's Robin Mask in the previous tournament. However, Terry informed him that Japan had decided not to compete if they could not be represented by Uldraman. Having lost all hope, Kinnikuman ran off to sulk but was confronted by Robin Mask. Robin put him in a Bow and Arrow Lock and told him to give up, but Suguru refused and persevered for several hours until Robin got tired and let go. Making last year's champion struggle caused Harabote Muscle, the chairman of the Olympics, to allow Suguru to compete.
The 20th Chojin Olympics soon began, with many well known chojin, including Robin Mask, Terryman, Specialman, Canadianman, Kintaman, Skyman, Brockenman, Lupin, and Kani Base, all competing for the title. The tournament had a rocky start for Kinnikuman when Meat, who was the Olympics mascot, accidentally hit Kinnikuman with the Olympics torch, which then caused him to hit Kani Base, and a brawl broke out. After the idiotic fighting was settled, the first preliminary match was announced, Rock-Paper-Scissors. Kinnikuman was able to beat Kani Base in the round with "rock" due to Kani Base's claws being stuck on "scissors".
The second preliminary was a weight lifting round with a catch, the weights are dead kaiju weighing 1 ton. The preliminaries went smoothly as many of the favourites easily lifted the kaiju. Kinnikuman, himself, was able to lift the kaijuu, albeit he sunk to the ground quite a bit. With many chojin passing, a second lift was done in which the weight was changed from 1 ton to 2 tons. While it would still seem favourable for many chojin, Kinkotsuman, Iwao, and the newly joined Kani Base had set up a trap for the chojin.
The three turned invisible thanks to Kinkotsuman's invisibility gun and begin to tickle or attack the chojin who was lifting. This would cause the chojin to lose focus and drop the kaiju, thus eliminating them. This tactic caused many chojin to fail, including Specialman, which caused Terryman to suspect their work. When it came to Kinnikuman's turn, he wasn't able to lift the kaiju up completely, but was able to withstand the tickling of Kinkotsuman. Thanks to a kick in the crotch from Kani Base, Kinnikuman was able to pass the round and expose Kinkotsuman, and the others fo
The third and final preliminary was a race in which the remaining chojin would fly to the moon, get a doll rabbit from one of the tournament reps, and fly back to the stadium. The first eight chojin to land would be the finalists. Kinnikuman, who was in last place, was given a doll rabbit by an unknown male who was actually Kinkotsuman in disguise. Kinkotsuman had set up a bomb in the rabbit that would explode. Fortunately, when the bomb exploded, it actually caused Kinnikuman as well many other chojin to fly straight down to the stadium. While 7 of the 8 finalists had been decided, 10 chojin, including Kinnikuman, Kintaman, Sphinxman, Amazonman, Copper Bellman, had all tied for the last spot. To settle this dispute, a battle royale would decide the eighth finalist.
Kinkotsuman hypnotised the other 9 finalists into eliminating Kinnikuman from the tournament as well as impersonating the referee. While Kinkotsuman's plan seemed to succeed, Terryman was able to realise Kinkotsuman's plan and was able to free the chojin of his control. With all the chojin back to normal, they all stopped their focused on Kinnikuman and just attacked each other. In the end, the other chojin knocked each other out, leaving only Kinnikuman, thus making the eighth finalist.
Quarter Finals
Kinnikuman had made it into the eight finalists of the 20th Chojin Olympics, which included Robin Mask, Terryman, Ramenman, Skyman, Brockenman, Canadianman, and Curry Cook. After a drawing, Kinnikuman was placed in B-Block which consisted of Curry Cook, Brockenman, and Ramenman, all known in the Planet Kinniku Grand Library for brutal fighting styles, hence them being Zangyaku chojin.
Due to the brutality of the chojin, Harabote placed the B-Block matches in the small Korakuen Hall which would only be broadcast on radio, compared to the massive Korakuen Stadium in which the A-Block matches were taking place and would be broadcast on television. The A-Block match against Robin Mask and Canadianman ended quickly with Robin taking down Canadianman in only a few moments. The B-Block match between Ramenman and Brockenman began with Brockenman using fowl and cheap tricks, such as spiked-knuckles and poison gas. Ramenman was able to take the upper-hand by taking Brockenman down with his Chinese Kenpo, finishing him off with his Camel Clutch, ripping Brockenman in half and which terrified Kinnikuman, Meat, and Mayumi.
After seeing the brutal death of Brockenman, Kinnikuman's fears of dying the same way at the hands of Curry Cook caused him to try to run away from the match. The only way Kinnikuman was able to get into the ring was because Meat and Mayumi dragged him back and told him that Curry Cook's face resembled that of a kappa. The match became a steel cage match and Curry Cook began the match by taking a weapon out of his curry sauce and stabbed Kinnikuman's forehead. While wallowing in pain, Kinnikuman was able to break Curry Cook's curry plate which caused Curry Cook to steal some gyuudon from the audience.
The sauce that had been stabbed into Kinnikuman's forehead caused him to act different, in which he bashed Curry Cook against the steel cage and even drank the milk that Curry Cook was originally going to use against him. Kinnikuman's insane tactics caused Curry Cook to give up the match and run away, advancing Kinnikuman to the semi-finals.
In Korakuen Stadium, Terryman's match with Skyman wasn't going well as Skyman's attacks were pushing Terry down. But Terry was able to make a comeback and defeat Skyman with an Oklahoma Stampede.
Semi-Finals
The match with Ramenman takes place on a solid block of ice.
Both competitors must be barefoot. Ramenman struggles to get a hold of Kinnikuman, who runs constantly away using the ropes as a tightrope. Eventually, Ramenman is able to deliver a series of blows and gets Kinnikuman into a Camel Clutch position, but soon lets go when Kinnikuman unleashes a bad smell and soils himself. Ramenman allows him a break to change his tights, while Kinnikuman gets used to the ice and gains an advantage.
Ramenman proceeds to use a pile-driver, but Kinnikuman gets his fin stuck in the melting ice. Ramenman kicks him across the ice and into the ropes, but the momentum allows the ropes to bounce Kinnikuman back and use an Elbow Smash. This knocks Ramenman out, which allows Kinnikuman to win the match. Unknown to Suguru, Kinkotsuman tries to shoot him, but Terryman intervenes and takes a bullet in his leg.
Finals
Before Suguru's fight with Robin Mask, Terry and Ramenman had a grudge match. Ramenman was soon disqualified for dirty fighting but then demanded that Suguru fight his best against Robin Mask, saying he wanted to be proud of his fight with Suguru. He got very emotional and cried tears of blood. Motivated by Ramenman's words, Suguru was a brand new fighter when he faced Robin. However, when he proved to be too much for Robin, Robin removed his armor, which he always wore to weaken his power rather than to protect himself.
Robin Mask became too tough, so Suguru tried to run away, but Ramenman, Kinkotsuman, and Iwao convinced him to return to the ring. Robin eventually put Suguru in his trademark Tower Bridge hold and seemingly broke his back. As Robin lamented over "killing" Suguru, Suguru stood up and defeated him with a Mexican Rolling Clutch Hold. Suguru had won the Olympics and Ramenman makes the first mention of Suguru's Kajiba no Kuso Djikara.
American Tour
After winning the chojin Olympics, Suguru is sent to tour the American Circuit. His first stop is Hawaii, where he challenges the Hawaiian Champion Jesse Maivia to a match. Jesse agrees, but only if Suguru can beat his manservant, Prince Kamehame. Suguru loses within seven seconds, but Kamehame is so impressed with him that he offers to teach him the Killer Techniques. With these techniques Suguru is able to defeat Jesse Maivia, the master of Move Reversion.
His next stop is the main continent, where he meets up with Dorlo Flairs and learns of the rivalry amongst the chojin Wrestling League chairmen. In order to disrupt the alliance between the Superhuman World Council and World Federation, he disguises himself as The Chanelman (a parody of blackface singers Chanels) and attacks the WSC's champions during their fights. Skull Boze and his manager Sheik Seijin figure out his identity and decide to set up a rematch between Suguru and Robin Mask.
Robin reappears in South America. 30 Kinnikuman confronts him when he sees Robin murder an opponent in the ring, when Robin's opponent is torn in two pieces.31 When Kinnikuman is captured by the World Supermen Federation, Robin brings him food so that he will survive and remain strong. 32 After tearing Dynamite Piper in half at the Luck Lumber Joe, Robin was allowed the chance to regain his title from Kinnikuman and faced him in a match.
The match with Kinnikuman takes place over the Grand Canyon, at 1,600 meters high. Before the fight can be finished, Iwao flies an aeroplane into the ring. The match is determined to be in Robin's favour, but - due to his assumed death - the belt then goes to the next in the WSF's line, which is Skull Bozu. Kinnikuman is revealed to be alive, while Robin took the brunt of the aeroplane attack and is willing to let himself be sacrificed as Kinnikuman has not enough strength to remove the plane.
Robin reveals that he read about Kinnikuman's activity in Hawaii and yearned to return to the life of a Justice Chojin. 34 Kinnikuman eventually manages to free Robin, but the WSF explode the ring, and only Kinnikuman can escape. Robin seemingly falls to his death.
After the battle between Kinnikuman and Robin Mask, the Chojin Council are chased by Kinnikuman to a remote location. The World Chojin Federation try to steal the championship belt, which creates a free-for-all battle, and God von Erich appears to command them to stop. 35 God von Erich announces a tag tournament to settle the differences between the three groups, as he says that the winner shall rule the American chojin world.
In this tag tournament, Kinnikuman must engage in a round robin.
He must fight the Chojin Council, Chojin Federation, Chojin Association, and the Kaiju - the winner of the four groups will gain control of America. 36 Kinnikuman finds Terryman in Amarillo, Texas; Terryman initially refuses to participate, due to the work on his ranch, and it is revealed he has lost his left leg. The wound he obtained by Kinkotsuman increasingly got worse, until he was forced to amputate. Kinnikuman eventually convinces him to use a prosthetic leg by winning a special bet.
Over 100,000 people attend to watch the tournament in Houston, Texas. They form The Machineguns, with the theme of "The Magnificent Seven" as they make an entrance. Their first match is against Beauty Rhodes and Jean Steamboard, who form The Emperors. During their match, Terryman is accidentally knocked out by Kinnikuman. Kinnikuman begins to lose, but Terryman wakes up long enough to save Kinnikuman with his own body. The match ultimately ends in a draw. The next few matches take place in Los Angeles.
Terryman and Kinnikuman are set to win by default against Rugged Brothers, as one of their opponents lost in their previous match and is unable to compete. Kinkotsuman reveals that he is the new tag partner, and the group rename themselves Monster Master/Student Combo. Kinnikuman and Terryman get trapped under a lighting rig that Kinkotsuman crashes down on them, but Kinnikuman knocks Terryman out when Terryman panics over the loss of his leg when faced with Kinkotsuman that caused his leg injury. Kinnikuman wins the match in record time against both Kinkotsuman and Iwao.
The next few matches take place at Madison Square Gardens, New York. The final match is against the Blood Illusions. Devil Magician starts by throwing cards at Kinnikuman and Terryman, before diving at them with a dagger, but Ramenman stops him and forces him to play by the rules. Skull Bozu attacks next, using his Hedgehog Move, where his body - except his head - erupts into spikes. Kinnikuman manages to defend, and stabs Skull Bozu's head with his own spikes.
Kinnikuman then uses a Drop Kick on Skull Bozu, while Terryman uses the Brain Buster on Devil Magician. They follow with a series of other wrestler's signature moves. Iwao then steals Terry's leg. Terryman - distracted by the abuse of a child - is showered in a flurry of punches by Skull Bozu. Skull Bozu proceeds to throw him out of the ring, but - on retrieving his leg - Terryman uses a Calf Branding against Skull Bozu, which results in a knock-out and thus secures their victory.
The Machineguns go on to win their final match against the Blood Illusions, while the New World Supermen Association - goes on to control America. Kinnikuman - after winning the tournament - take a break in Guam for the day, where he witnesses a kaiju attack on Japan, while watching television.
The kaiju Burugorasu is attacking children and destroying buildings, but the Earth Defence Force fails to stop him, but - on seeing the children plead for the help of Kinnikuman - Kinnikuman and Meat decide to return to Japan. He is given a wrist that will tell him the time to his next exhibition match, which is due five hours from now, and - as Olympic Champion - he is obliged to attend the match or he will forfeit his championship. Kinnikuman eventually arrives in Japan, with only 30 minutes to spare, and grows to a giant size. He struggles to use his Kinniku Flash, but succeeds after a child tosses him some garlic. He fails to make it back in time for his match, and forfeits his championship.
The Lost Three Days
The chapter begins with a brief recap of American Chojin politics during the 1980's, and the creation of the American Chojin Tag Tournament. 48 Kinnikuman sets his sights upon Terryman as a tag partner, but only has three days until the tournament starts to convince him of participation, and - on reaching Terry's Ranch - Kinnikuman begs him, only for Terry to rebuke him due to a lack of time.
Kinnikuman strikes Terryman, which knocks him off his horse, and this reveals that he has lost his leg, which Terryman states makes him useless as a partner. He thus rides away. A ranch-hand - Buckland - reveals that he has a prosthetic leg that Terryman can use, and gives it to Kinnikuman so that Terryman may fight again. Kinnikuman waits outside the ranch, even forgoing food and rest, in hopes that Terryman will take pity on him and use the leg.
The next day Terryman wakes them with water to the face, after they pass out from heatstroke. Terryman says that he will work with Kinnikuman, only if Kinnikuman can fill up his trough; he gives him two bags, and tells him the river is fifteen miles away. To do this, he lends Kinnikuman a wild horse (knowing that Kinnikuman will never tame the horse and thus make the necessary trips). The horse is named Machinegun.
Kinnikuman still refuses to find another partner, and - after being attacked by the horse - manages to eventually mount Machinegun. At sunset, Kinnikuman makes the first round-trip to empty some water into the trough. While Terryman goes about his daily routine, Kinnikuman continues to fill the trough, and it is noticed that Machinegun once lost his leg in an accident, too, until he was also given a prosthetic. Kinnikuman bonds with the horse and tames him. Kinnikuman makes it back just in time to win the bet made by Terryman, and Terryman thus dons his prosthetic leg and agrees to join his team. The two go on to enter the tournament.
2nd Kaiju Extermination Arc
Bibimba
Yaki Horumon sends Bibimba to take revenge on Kinnikuman. At first, she dives at him with a knife, but he ducks at the last moment and avoids her attack. This causes Bibimba to fall and scrape her knee, and Kinnikuman rips Meat Alexandria's to wrap her wound. Yaki - troubled by this - summons Kinnikuman to attend a duel with Bibimba, after he kidnaps Meat to force attendance.
Bibimba easily strikes a blow on Kinnikuman, and proceeds to take a sword to kill him, but she hesitates after remembering his act of kindness. Kinnikuman is thus able to stop her blow, but - when he counters with a sword-attack - he slices open her leotard and reveals her in a nude state. Kinnikuman shows mercy on her, as he gives her Meat's new cape to cover her naked form. Bibimba then believes herself to be in love with Kinnikuman.
Seeing how she is infatuated with Kinnikuman, Yaki Horumon introduces her to Shishkeba Boo. Yaki promises the hand of Bibimba in marriage, so long as Shishkeba defeats Kinnikuman in battle. Bibimba rushes to the palace to beg Kinnikuman to flee the planet, but - just as Kinnikuman tries to make his escape - Shiskeba arrives to stop him. Kinnikuman mocks his appearance, but agrees to fight him in a series of challenges.
The first challenge is a speed-eating contest, which he wins. The second challenge is to create a tower, but - after Kinnikuman cheats - they both descend into a fist-fight. They are evenly matched, using the same techniques, but Shiskeba is able to knock him unconscious. When it seems that Shishkeba may truly kill Kinnikuman, Bibimba refuses to allow him, saying that she will die, too, and is willing to sacrifice her life. Bibimba then travels back to Earth with Meat and Kinnikuman.
Without anywhere to live, Bibimba stays in Beverly Park with Kinnikuman and Meat. Unable to attend on Kinnikuman as well as Meat, Bibimba flees and it is revealed that Meat and Kinnikuman are actively trying to get her to return to Planet Kinniku. On her way to find Kinnikuman to make amends, she is attacked by a Kaiju: Gonta. When Kinnikuman refuses to help her, and the Earth Defence Force arrive, Bibimba believes she is being tested on whether she can defend herself. This inspires Bibimba to join the Earth Defence Force and become independent, as she starts a life alone.
Planet Rakka
When Planet Rakka became in danger by the Uchuu Nobushi, the chojin Beansman asked Terryman and Ramenman to fight. Kinnikuman, assuming he'd automatically be chosen, went straight to Beansman and joined them without any real test. In Africa, the group found the transforming chojin Puyo-Puyo, whom Kinnikuman teased because of his appearance, only to be punched at by him. In Antarctica, the group found the ice chojin Crystalman, who had been asleep in ice for 100,000 and was bribed into going by getting all the food he could eat. The least chojin was in Berlin, Germany, Brocken Jr., the son of Brockenman. At first, it seemed as though Brocken Jr. was going to begin his revenge on Ramenman but stopped, accepted Beansman's request to join, and said he would deal with it when they returned to Earth. With Brocken Jr. now having joined, the seven chojin had been gathered.
Using Puyo-Puyo as a space coaster, the group was able to reach Planet Rakka. Ingen, the elder and friend of Beansman, told the group that the survivors had built a fort and disguised it with a fog. Ingen said the only reason that the Uchu Nobushi hadn't been around was because they had gone to eat. Only moments later, the Uchu Nobushi returned, ready to take the fort. The seven chojin all gathered and began their assault. However, it seemed useless as the Uchu Nobushi would regenerate into even more members every time they were struck down.
When Crystalman found the weakness against the Uchu Nobushi as an attack to their hearts, the Uchu Nobushi all formed together into one giant creature. In order to stop the creature, Kinnikuman and the rest of the chojin combined their powers and were able to destroy the Uchu Nobushi, freeing Planet Rakka. When the chojin were going home Kinnikuman, who was driving their spaceship, was caught by the space police as an unlicensed speeding driver, much to the other chojins dismay.
21st Chojin Olympics: The Big Fight
Preliminary Rounds
One morning, a black letter came into the mail for Kinnikuman. The letter turned out to be an application for the 21st chojin Olympics, nicknamed "The Big Fight". At first Kinnikuman was ready to fight until he learned that he still had to pass the prelims like everyone else. On the chojin Hour program, Yoshigai and Harabote began speaking of Kinnikuman's loss of the belt and how it was worth 10,000,000 yen. Next, they went over the favourites for the tournament, such as Terryman, Ramenman, Brocken Jr., and Benkiman, a toilet chojin who can literally flush people down his drain. The next chojin representative was also from Japan, a sumo named Wolfman, who antagonised Kinnikuman on television. Wolfman's actions caused Kinnikuman to want to compete in the tournament once more.
Days passed, until the chojin Olympics: The Big Fight finally started. Over 100,000 chojin from all over the world came to compete, including many of Kinnikuman's friends and rivals from the previous chojin Olympics and his American Tour. The first preliminary was the "Terrifying chojin Sieve" in which the chojin were put into a giant sieve, shaken up, and all the chojin who were too fat or too skinny would fall through leaving only the chojin in good physical condition left. Harabote first started off with the German team, taking them directly from the stands, where only one chojin, Brocken Jr. stayed in.
Harabote soon got carried away and took all the other countries chojin at once. Fat and skinny chojin, such as Kani Base (as well as Skull Bozu and Beauty Rhodes), were eliminated quickly. As the shaking continued, Kinnikuman began to fall through, leaving only his head still inside the sieve at the end of the shaking. Since Kinnikuman's head was still inside the sieve, Harabote deemed it legal and he passed the first prelim.
Quarter Finals
At the 21st Chojin Olympics Benkiman fought against Kinnikuman. Kinnikuman eventually was sucked into Benkiman's toilet and flushed down. A person typically does not return once flushed. Kinnikuman, however, returned because he stuffed his shorts into the toilet causing it to back up. The back up resulted in Kinnikuman winning the match. Kinnikuman also saved the other Chojins that were flushed down Benkiman's toilet.
Semi-Finals
The semi-finals match takes place in Kuramae Public Arena, where Meat Alexandria acts as a guest commentator. Four people surround the ring, while Kinnikuman is required to wear a fundashi. The ring is flipped over to reveal a sumo circle, and Kinnikuman starts with a Kinniku-Sumo Kick. He attempts a brain-buster, but Wolfman evades the attack. Wolfman tries to throw Kinnikuman out of the circle, as per sumo rules, but Kinnikuman holds onto him to stop being thrown.
Wolfman delivers a Rubiks Cube Slap to Kinnikuman's face. He manages to toss Kinnikuman out of the circle, but Mayumi Kinniku bursts the swollen blisters of his head and Kinnikuman floats back into the circle. They grab each other's belts, where Kinnikuman is nearly thrown again, and he survives again an underarm throw. Wolfman tries to crush Kinnikuman into submission, but he pushes back. Wolfman distracts him by claiming his penis is visible through his fundashi, before throwing Kinnikuman down against the ring.
Just as he is about to be declared the winner, they realise Wolfman is fully outside of the ring. Kinnikuman has used a suplex to throw him, and he has touched ground outside of the circle first, which disqualifies him from continuing in the tournament.
Finals
Kinnikuman angers Warsman by mocking him, as he pulls back his chair and forces him to fall in public. After Kinnikuman strikes Bibimba, Warsman becomes infuriated at his actions and lunges to attack, at which point Kinnikuman uses his Bear Claw Defence to remove his clawed hand. Warsman counters with the Palo Special, before Terryman saves Kinnikuman by kicking him away into the waters. This makes Kinnikuman's mask fall off, and Barracuda declares the next match will be a Mask Removal Death Match.
Warsman later interferes with an exhibition match between Mayumi Kinniku and Harabote Muscle as a "training exercise". He tosses the ring with them away, until Kinnikuman tosses it back. Warsman is stopped from killing a catatonic Ramenman, only for Robin Mask to reveal his true identity to the crowd and that Warsman is his chance for revenge. Kinnikuman initially gains the upper hand, as Warsman essentially copies Robin's techniques, which Kinnikuman knows very well from their previous matches. 61 Warsman reverts back to his own style, then removes Kinnikuman's mask.
Underneath each of Kinnikuman's masks is another mask, so Warsman struggles to unmask him. Warsman starts to remove Kinnikuman's actual mask, revealing black hair, until Kinnikuman performs the Muscle Curtain. Bibimba begs Warsman to stop, after he leaves Kinnikuman a bloody mess, but Robin Mask threatens to return him to the streets. Kinnikuman has the chance to throw Warsman onto his own Bear Claw, but refuses as he doesn't want to become as brutal as Warsman. 65 Warsman thus changes his mind about his evil ways, but is attacked by Robin, who then proceeds to slap Bibimba. 65 Warsman attacks Robin and continues to fight fairly against Kinnikuman.
Warsman is able to overcome Kinnikuman's Fire of Inner Strength with his Palo Special, proving himself stronger and with greater techniques, but Warsman overheats in battle if he fights past 30 minutes and 35 minutes have gone by in the match. Kinnikuman uses the Kinniku Buster and wins the match; he is required to remove Warsman's mask, but Warsman - talking for the first time - reveals his face. He is revealed to have a cybernetic face. Kinnikuman thus returns his mask.
The Seven Devil Chojin
Prehistory
After taking the chojin Olympics championship twice, Suguru thew a parade honouring himself as the V2 champion. Unfortunately, while being lifted in the air by his fan girls, a more heavy-set girl threw him too high into space. This caused him to hit the detonation button on a roach motel which contained the Seven Devil Chojin, seven evil chojin that were banned from Earth due to their deadly ways of fighting.
In Korakuen Hall, while participating in the "Let's Play with the chojin" Fan Appreciation Day, the Seven Devil Chojin interrupted the celebration. At first, Kinnikuman thought it was just an unscripted sketch but Warsman corrected him and began to attack one of the Devil Chojin. Immediately, the Devil Chojin, Black Hole, punched Warsman, who was then forced down into the mat by Buffaloman, the leader of the Seven Devil Chojin. Buffaloman then stated a challenge to Kinnikuman to defeat all seven of them.
The Devil Chojin began challenging Kinnikuman, eager to battle him. Warsman rose up and continued to fight against Buffaloman, only for him to be attacked by SteCase King's 100,000 headphones which broke his ear drums destroyed his sensory system. While at first he was going to give it away, Kinnikuman decided to keep his belt but refused to fight the Devil Chojin after the battles that had just occurred in the chojin Olympics. In order to force Kinnikuman to fight, Buffaloman took Meat and separated him into seven pieces, each piece being taken by one of the Devil Chojin. Buffaloman set a challenge that, in order to revive Meat, Kinnikuman had to defeat all seven Devil Chojin in 10 days. Crying, Kinnikuman accepted the challenge immediately saying that Meat was like a brother to him.69
Kinnikuman vs. Stecasse King
The Devil Chojin gave Kinnikuman the opportunity to pick his first opponent. Using his own cassettes music, SteCase King was able to force Kinnikuman's body into picking him, much to the anger of the other Devil Chojin. The battle took place at Tokyo Tower, with Meat's torso at stake. The battle began with SteCase King jumping at Kinnikuman with his headphone feet to try to force him to listen to his Music of Hell.
Kinnikuman was able to dodge the attacks and even hit SteCase King, giving the impression that SteCase King was very weak, putting him into a Boston Crab Hold. SteCase King soon opened up his Miracle Backpack which contained five giant cassette tapes of the chojin Encyclopedia. Using the tapes, SteCase King was able to imitate Warsman perfectly, including Warsman's deep breathing and creepy smile, and released himself from the Boston Crab Hold. To show his strength, SteCase King then put Kinnikuman into the Palo Special, a technique that only Warsman knew.
SteCase King soon showed his abilities even more showing the abilities of Ramenman's kicks and Robin Mask's Tower Bridge, all on his tapes. Buffaloman then told Terryman that SteCase King's tapes contained 1,000 entries on chojin, giving the match and 1000 vs. 1 challenge. Kinnikuman's determination was able to release him from the Tower Bridge, however SteCase King soon put Kinnikuman into his own Music Hell technique. Even though Kinnikuman's mask was able to protect him from 100,000 phones, SteCase King set the sound for 1,000,000 phones, loud enough to penetrate even the Kinniku masks.
Thanks to observation by a child, Terryman was able to conclude that SteCase King's music was the same music that came from Tokyo Tower, hence why SteCase King set the match right below it. Thanks to a mistake by SteCase King, the music program had already ended and was switched by a comedy program, which was able to keep Kinnikuman conscious.
Now free, Kinnikuman countered with a back drop and injured SteCase King. As a last resort, SteCase King used the chojin Encyclopedia once more, except he accidentally took an outdated cassette of Kinnikuman, who had indeed become a competent chojin over the years. With SteCase King weakened, Kinnikuman finished him off with the Kinniku Buster. Despite SteCase King being the weakest of the Seven Devil Chojin, he managed to give Kinnikuman many wounds, enough so that the chojin doctor said that Kinnikuman would need 10 days to heal.
Kinnikuman vs. Black Hole
Despite initially having taken his torso, the match against Black Hole is to retrieve Meat's right arm. Black Hole - after lighting a fire - realises Kinnikuman has not arrived and threatens to destroy Meat's arm, but Kinnikuman seemingly arrives in perfect health. He blocks a punch from Black Hole, which Black Hole notes is with his left hand despite being right-handed, and Black Hole also notes that his body is no longer muscular.
Black Hole and his teammates reveal this is an intruder, only to beat him until he is bleeding profusely, and they show that this was Terryman. The real Kinnikuman appears and challenges Black Hole to fight. They fight in a Solar House Death Match at Korakuen Stadium. Kinnikuman initially thought that this was to be nice, as the Solar House made it warmer inside the ring while it was cold outside, but Black Hole's real reason was so that he could use his Shadow Travel technique. Kinnikuman begins the match with a punch, but his arm gets stuck in the hole in Black Hole's face. After a flurry of punches, Kinnikuman finally escapes, and kicks at Black Hole's chest, only to get his body stuck within the chest.
Kinnikuman is soon spat out, only for Black Hole to use Shadow Travel.
He uses a German Suplex upon Kinnikuman, before trapping him in a Cobra Twist. He proceeds to clone his bodies and fill the ring with them, as all of them attack Kinnikuman at once, but Kinnikuman uses a Sun Muscle to dissipate the fake Black Hole clones. Kinnikuman lands a Flying Body Scissors Drop. The inside of the hole on Black Hole's head then becomes a portal into space, which sucks Kinnikuman inside. Kinnikuman manages to escape and breaks through the Solar Dome back into the ring. Kinnikuman smashes down on Black Hole with a Nikudan Elbow Drop, which effectively knocks out Black Hole and allows Kinnikuman to win and retrieve Meat's right arm.
Kinnikuman vs. Atlantis
Later Kinnikuman fights against Atlantis. Atlantis begins with a Water Magnum, but Kinnikuman uses Salmon Swimming Stream to swim up the beam of water, and headbutts Atlantis in his face. Kinnikuman attempts a body-press, but the spirits of his deceased opponents hold him back: The Mountain, Stecasse King, Mr Khamen, and Black Hole. He thus can't move and lands on Atlantis knees. He tries to put Atlantis in a sleeping hold, but Black Hole cuts into his neck. Mongolman reveals that this is due to a Blood Bind, and he takes Terryman and Brocken Jr. into the spirit world to defeat the spirits.
Kinnikuman is thrown into the lake by Atlantis. Due to his friends defeating the spirits, Kinnikuman is able to swim upwards and jump back onto the ring. Atlantis jumps into the water and covers the ring in a thick fog, which enables him to trick Kinnikuman into thinking the corner-post is him and striking his head against it in the confusion. Atlantis uses a water magnum, which destroys some of the ropes, and then hits him with a Water Ball. He follows this with a St Helen's Eruption.
Kinnikuman uses his Fire of Inner Strength to escape the hold, and a Muscle Typhoon to get rid of the mist. In order to avenge Robin Mask, Kinnikuman use a Tower Bridge attack on Atlantis, at which point Atlantis tosses Meat's right leg into the leg. Kinnikuman jumps in to save the leg, as Atlantis follows, but uses a U-Boat technique against him. Buffaloman convince Kinnikuman to finish using his Kinniku Buster, which breaks Atlantis' back, neck, and hip-bones. This defeats Atlantis and allows Kinnikuman to retrieve the leg.
Kinnikuman vs. Buffaloman
From here on, the matches became rougher, as the Devil Chojins, the fierce enemies of the Justice Chojin, weren't just trying to beat them, but kill them in battle. Through the help of his friends, some of who valiantly gave their lives through fighting the evil Devil chojin, and Mongolman, the mystery fighter who Suguru first believed to be a Devil chojin, they were finally able to defeat the leader, Buffaloman. Touched by the bonds of friendship that Suguru and the Justice Chojin had for each other, Buffaloman vowed that one day he would like to join them, if he survived the punishment for his sins.
Golden Mask Arc
Kinnikuman attends a chojin physical with his colleagues.
The Chojin Power of his colleagues is halved, with only his power left intact. It is revealed that the golden mask on Planet Kinniku has been stolen, and the Silver Mask travels through space into Kinnikuman's hands, as a group of six masked men descend on Kinnikuman. Only one of them has the true Golden Mask, and each says they will go to a specific location to wait for Kinnikuman; if he battles them and wins, they will give him their mask, and their tournament will end when he finds the true Golden Mask.
Kinnikuman vs. Sneagator
The first match is against Sneagator in the Budokan Stadium. The ring seems empty, until Sneagator appears to turn all the chairs into alligators and the confetti into lizards. Sneagator bites through the ropes, which turn into snakes and attack Kinnikuman. He then bites down onto Kinnikuman's right shoulder, before using a Hell Space Walk, which is a powerful sneaker kick.
Sneagator then bites into Kinnikuman's torso, before using another sneaker-kick and biting him in three separate places. At this point, Meat realises the animals are illusions caused by a light projector. Sneagator attempts to bite off Kinnikuman's head, but Kinnikuman stops him by holding onto the sides of his jaws, before using a Mouth-Ripping Kinniku-Buster, and covers the light projector with Sneagator's blood.
Sneagtor then sheds his skin and returns in a tortoise form. He uses a Strong Body Press on Kinnikuman, but Kinnikuman uses a Muscle Curtain, and Sneagator sheds his skin again. Kinnikuman gets behind Sneagator and rips the fins from his head, but Sneagator turns again into a chameleon to camouflage into his environment. Kinnikuman allows himself to be injured, so he can use his blood to force Sneagator to become visible. Sneagator then turns into a dinosaur hand, but Kinnikuman gets him in a Bear Hug.
This allows him to see Sneagator's true face, which is on one of his fingers.
He uses a Front Suplex to then defeat Sneagator.
Kinnikuman vs. Planetman
Kinnikuman dies from his injuries against Sneagator.
Once he is revived by Wolfman's life force, Kinnikuman heads for the Toshimaen (è±ćł¶ć) amusement park to face his next opponent. Upon arrival, he and Meat find a ring and are then confronted by several planets. The planets then fuse together and become Planetman. He knocks Kinnikuman into the ring, which is then elevated several hundred feet into the air.
Planetman starts out in control of the fight, slicing Kinnikuman up with his Planet Ring. 86 Kinnikuman tries to hide in a Ferris Wheel car, but Planetman is able to knock him out of there with his Ring Stone. He then freezes Kinnikuman's body with the Sub Zero Figure 4 Neck Lock and tries to shatter him with a knee drop, but Geronimo channels Wolfman's power and Kinnikuman is able to break free.
Planetman then reveals that his head is actually the legendary planet Vulcan. He also points out that Earth is nowhere on his body. 86 That is because Kinnikuman represents Earth, and with that a map of the world appears on Kinnikuman's body. 87 Planetman then begins striking the countries of specific Justice Chojins, causing their life-support bubbles to burst and their bodies to go through excruciating pain.
When he tries throwing his Apollo Dynamite at Japan, Kinnikuman catches the fireball and throws it back. Planetman then uses his horrible Face Planet technique, causing the faces of Terryman, Robin Mask, Warsman, Brocken Jr., Mayumi Kinniku, Sayuri Kinniku, Bibimba, and Canadianman to appear on the planets on his body. He also dons his Golden Mask so that Kinnikuman won't attack his head. Kinnikuman pays it no mind and tries a Knee Breaker, but realises that he would hurt Bibimba if he did. Kinnikuman finds himself unable to fight back until he realises that a Kinniku Buster wouldn't hurt any of them, just Planetman.
Unfortunately, Planetman transforms their surrounding into space, preventing Kinnikuman from completing the Kinniku Buster. Finally, Warsman insists that Kinnikuman punch through his face, which is directly over Planetman's heart. 88 Kinnikuman reluctantly complies and pierces Planetman's heart, putting Warsman in a coma and freeing everyone from the Face Planet technique. 89 Planetman then tries his Planet Ring one more time, but Kinnikuman gets behind him, causing the ring to decapitate Planetman. Kinnikuman then defeats him with Black Hole Suplex, throwing him through a hole in the middle of the ring.
Unfortunately, Planetman's Golden Mask turns out to be a fake, just like Sneagator's.
Five-Tier Ring
Kinnikuman then enters inside of Warsman.
Inside his body, there is a five-tier ring that begins a new tournament. Terryman, Geronimo, Brocken Jr., and Robin Mask fight on his behalf, so that Kinnikuman can climb the spine and reach the fifth ring, where he plans to jolt Warsman's heart to resuscitate him. Kinnikuman finally reaches the fourth-tier, but the Golden Mask is not the real Golden Mask, and General Devil appears above them on the fifth tier.
Kinnikuman vs. General Devil
General Devil first appears as the Golden Mask.
He shrinks the exit inside Warsman's body, to prevent Kinnikuman and his friends - who are growing to their regular size - from leaving in time so as not to tear Warsman apart. He steals forth the power of the Devil Chojin that worked underneath him during the tournament, and announces himself as their leader. Geronimo attacks General Devil, but General Devil retaliates with a Double-Arm Suplex. 94 He then uses a Spin Double Arm, and finishes with a Hell's Guillotine. This kills Geronimo, and inspires the others to distract General Devil by attacking him at once.
General Devil escapes from Warsman's body, along with Asuraman. Kinnikuman escapes and uses his Fire of Inner Strength, as he attempts to tackle General Devil, but he is struck by a Hell's Guillotine. It is revealed General Devil cannot absorb his Fire of Inner Strength and injures his knee. General Devil and Asuraman go through a door to their next venue, while Kinnikuman lingers behind due to fear, but - despite his hesitation - Buffaloman holds the door open for him and allows him to carry onward.
Buffaloman, on his arrival, shakes hands with General Devil; General Devil resurrected him to act as an adviser for the upcoming match. After Asuraman loses in his match against Kinnikuman, he is shunned by General Devil and decapitated by him. Buffaloman is thus persuaded to join the Justice Chojin, as he rejects such levels of cruelty, and holds General Devil about his waist, so that Kinnikuman may have a chance to use his Kinniku Driver. General Devil attempts a Hell Super Express.
This is reversed by Buffaloman, and the fight between the two allows Kinnikuman time to train with Terryman in an attempt to perfect the Kinniku Driver using logs in a nearby parkland. Buffaloman attempts a Special Hurricane Mixer, but General Devil reveals his body can feel no pain. Kinnikuman perfects his Kinniku Driver. Buffaloman impales General Devil with his long horns, while Terryman warns Kinnikuman about the fatal flaw with the Kinniku Driver, and Kinnikuman manages to correct the one flaw.
Kinnikuman returns and carries Buffaloman to the infirmary, after General Devil defeats Buffaloman. Kinnikuman learns - in the process - that General Devil is actually Goldman. Kinnikuman returns to the ring and throws the silver mask above the ring, along with General Devil and the gold mask, and and it is decided that the winner of the match will take both masks. Kinnikuman begins the match with a German Suplex, and General Devil attacks with a chair, causing a referee to be needed. Mongolman agrees to referee the match.
Kinnikuman tries to attack General Devil several times, but his skin is torn open and every time his Kinniku Driver fails. General Devil attempts a Skull Crush, but Kinnikuman counters by bashing him against the corner-post of the ring. This is followed by Kinnikuman reversing an attempted Hell's Guillotine. General Devil gains the upper-hand with a Hell Windmill, and Kinnikuman - after thrown out the ring - makes it back in time for the count. Kinnikuman is then hit by a Human Bullet Dive Bomb.
Kinnikuman uses a Sideways Kinniku-Buster. This strikes General Devil against a far wall, where the chest-plate of his armour breaks away and reveals he is lacking a physical body. Kinnikuman attempts a Bear-Hug, but General Devil breaks free and the pieces of his body turn back into the Six Devil Knights, and General Devil reverses a Sideways Kinniku-Buster to harm Kinnikuman.
After using his Muscle Curtain, after exchanging a series of blows, Kinnikuman witnesses General Devil harden his body to level seven. General Devil turns his arms into swords, and Robin Mask tosses his armour for Kinnikuman to use, but General Devil goes to Hardness Level 10. He splits open Robin Mask's armour and attacks at Kinnikuman, and Kinnikuman attempts a Muscle Curtain Attack.
Kinnikuman manages to scratch General Devil's body. This is followed by a Burning Megaton Punch, which opens the crack in General Devil's armour, and his body shatters into millions of diamonds, as Kinnikuman retrieves the Golden Mask. The diamond pieces destroy the Golden Mask, and it is revealed the the real Golden Mask was underneath General Devil's fake mask all along. It was a part of his head. This triggers Kinnikuman into donning the Silver Mask, so that the two masks can communicate.
General Devil - now revealed to be Goldman - reveals he felt humiliated by Silverman, while they were still alive, and was given power by Satan, who granted him control over the Six Devil Knights. To gain the upper hand, General Devil places the ring on the bodies of Kinnikuman's Justice Chojin friends, and each attacks upon the canvas thus causes them pain. General Devil uses a Burning Bridge.
The ring is transformed, as General Devil starts to sweat, and his sweat turns the canvas into a diamond. 108 After a series of serious blows, Kinnikuman turns the tides and uses the diamond canvas against General Devil, and forces his Hardness Level back to normal. The Friendship Power exhibited by Kinnikuman, and the Justice Chojin beneath the ring, causes the Gold Mask to reject the armour gifted by Satan. 109 This causes a body to appear. Kinnikuman then uses his Fire of Inner Strength .
General Devil seals all Kinnikuman's vital points and uses a Hell Guillotine.
Kinnikuman stops the move, while the spirits of his friends come to his defence. The Friendship Power weakens him, before he summons the spirits of the Six Devil Knights to rip his limbs away; sacrificing his body means Kinnikuman cannot use any techniques against him. Buffaloman then intervenes to stop him from dismantling and recombining at will. He dons the mask, so that General Devil will have a body, and willingly sacrifices himself to help stop General Devil. Kinnikuman successfully uses the Kinniku Driver.
General Devil - now in his Golden Mask form - asks to be destroyed, but instead the Silver Mask combines with the Golden Mask and become the Perfect Mask. They revive all dead and injured Chojin, and never again will they ever be divided, which means never again can they bring harm on the people. Kinnikuman and his friends celebrate his victory.
Dream Chojin Tag Arc
Prehistory
A second Mount Fuji appears in Japan. On top of this mountain, the Universal Chojin Tag Team trophy appears. Underneath, there appears a series of rings that allow for eight tag-teams to compete. Kinnikuman - along with the other justice chojin - goes to Kourakuen Hall to discuss the situation. Terryman reveals he will not team up with Kinnikuman, but instead seeks to work with Geronimo and bring him back to health (since he is now in a vegetative state).
Quarter-Finals
The first match for them was against Pentagon and Black Hole: 4D Killer Combo. The 4D Killer Combo await in the first ring, and - as the Muscle Brothers enter - drop down upon them as a preemptive attack. Kinnikuman ignores Kinnikuman Great's attempt to tag in, despite bleeding profusely, and this allows Black Hole to swap places with Pentagon. Black Hole throws Kinnikuman to the ropes; Kinnikuman Great reassures Kinnikuman they are equals, but Kinnikuman is determined to prove himself to what he considers his master. He still tags in Kinnikuman Great, despite his reservations, who uses a martial arts kick to attack Black Hole. They exchange several blows, but Kinnikuman Great temporarily incapacitates Black Hole with a Rolling Savate.
The other teams leave their rings, so that they may watch the match. Black Hole catches Kinnikuman Great off-guard and throws him to the ropes, in an attempt to engage in a German Suplex, but Kinnikuman Great counters with a Reverse Kick. Kinnikuman argues with Kinnikuman Great and trust breaks down, and this leads to the 4D Killer Combo gaining an advantage. As the 4D Combo use 4D Warp again, Great throws Kinnikuman out of the ring so that he may strike Pentagon midair. This fatigues both Pentagon and Great.
Each move Kinnikuman uses on Black Hole becomes countered with Pentagon's Chronos Change, and - as Great comes to the defence - Pentagon uses Time Stop to freeze Great and stop with a Pile Driver. They stop Great with a 4D Cross and he is absorbed into Black Hole's body. The 4D Combo tries to use a 4D Cross on Kinnikuman, but he counters with advice from the voice of Great. Great tries to escape through Black Hole, grabbing his mask in the process, but Black Hole closes access to his dimension.
Black Hole and Great fight within the dimension, and Great uses a Kinniku Buster to defeat Black Hole, while Kinnikuman uses the Kinniku Driver to defeat Pentagon. They combine their attacks into a Muscle Docking, which allows them to win the match.
Semi-Finals
After Prince Kamehame's death, Terryman dons the Kinnikuman Great disguise.
In a match-up lottery, the Muscle Brothers Nouveau are matched against the Stray Devil Chojin Combo. The rules of the match determine that a KO'd opponent must be thrown into a cage overhead, and the non-competing semi-finalists surround the ring to stop anyone from leaving the ring before the end of the match. After Terryman is hurt, Kinnikuman attacks his opponents and is knocked out of the ring, where he is struck by Buffaloman's Hurricane Mixer. Kinnikuman tosses Asuraman, but the others do not harm him and allow him back into the ring, proving Kinnikuman's friendship with Buffaloman is not restored.
After Terryman fails to imitate Kinnikuman Great properly, Kinnikuman is forced to use his Fire of Inner Strength to protect him. They attempt to use a Muscle Docking, but they are unable to synchronise, and instead are subject to Hell's Combination Part 1. Kinnikuman is later tagged back into the match, where he gets Asuraman into a Cobra Twist. Terryman and Kinnikuman are soon tossed towards the cage above, but manage to stop themselves from entering the cage.
They both use Body Attacks on the Stray Devil Chojin Combo.
Asuraman uses a Hell's Canvas, causing Kinnikuman to be attacked by the spirits of past opponents. Kinnikuman is then hit by a Sunshine Magnum. This is followed by a Sunshine Rapid Fire. A Hell's Combination Part III knocks Kinnikuman head-first into the box above. The sweat from Kinnikuman's body falls down onto the ring, which banishes the spirits of his past opponents, and - at this point - he is able to free his body and escape the cage. In the ensuing events, Kinnikuman realises Kinnikuman Great is not Prince Kamehame and demands to be told the person's true identity.
Terryman saves Kinnikuman's life and begs him to trust him, but Kinnikuman tries to forcibly remove his mask. 126 After Terryman tries to sacrifice himself, and states his reason to fight for friendship, Kinnikuman believes that he is an ally of the Justice Chojin. Kinnikuman then throws Asuraman into Sunshine's Cursed Roller. Asuraman shifts into pieces of the Devil General's body in an attempt to psychologically dissuade Kinnikuman from continuing to fight. Asuraman and Sunshine succumb to Friendship Power. The Muscle Brothers win against the Stray Devil Chojin Combo with a Muscle Docking.
Finals
The final match is against Hell Missionaries; the ring is surrounded by swords, which will pierce anyone thrown out of the ring or who tries to escape. The match will be a three-round match, with each round lasting ten minutes until the final round, which will have no time-limit attached.
During the match against Neptuneman, some of Terryman's blond hair is exposed. More and more of Terryman's face is exposed, as he panics at the idea Kinnikuman may reject him on learning the truth, and thus leaves himself open to attacks. With only seconds to spare, Terryman is defeated with a Cross-Bomber in the first round and his face is revealed. Terryman has his stars returned to him by Asuraman, who rejects how he gave up earlier, and - thus due to not having technically quit his match - is still eligible to compete in...

I must contain my anger, or I won't control my power.
But gods! How long I've waited just to see this very hour!
It's just as well I'm not the one who calls the storm of fire,
Or I would turn this battle plain into your funeral pyre!
The priests all say I must not hate, but I will not pretend.
I saw the wreck you made of her, my Herald and my friend.
The scars you left in flesh and soul will be so slow to fade.
Oh, would I had your coward heart beneath my naked blade!
My crown is on my brow, my naked blade within my hand.
My army like an eager hound lies waiting my command.
With how you tortured, killed and lied revealed to them this day,
By all the stars that ever shone,
By all the gods, known and unknown,
For Herald Kris and my Queen's Own...
I swear that you will pay!
For, what with my whole world-wide wandering,
What with my search drawn out through years, my hope
Dwindled into a ghost not fit to cope
With that obstreperous joy success would bring,
I hardly tried now to rebuke the spring
My heart made, finding failure in its scope.

The Black Country Living Museum is an open-air museum of rebuilt historic buildings in Dudley, West Midlands, England. It is located in the centre of the Black Country, 10 miles west of Birmingham.
The museum opened to the public in 1978, and has since added over 50 shops, houses and other industrial buildings from around the Metropolitan Boroughs of Dudley, Sandwell and Walsall and the City of Wolverhampton (collectively known as the Black Country); mainly in a specially built village. Most buildings were relocated from their original sites to form a base from where demonstrators portray life spanning 300 years of history, with a focus on 1850â1950.

Don't worry no one was hurt or scolded in the making of this image - the hand and pointing finger was actually a school teacher pointing and shouting "no pictures of the children". The museum gets a lot of visits from school parties and I can understand the teachers concern, however they don't seem to care about the hundreds of security cameras we all walk past every day in the UK, police, councils, shops, private homes.
(This week thousands of fans attending the Beyoncé concert in Cardiff were scanned by live face recognition cameras deployed in the area by South Wales Police.).
A good web site explaining the law regarding what and where you can photograph things and people:
Jesus Heals a Demon-Possessed Boy
When they returned to the other disciples, they saw a large crowd surrounding them, and some teachers of religious law were arguing with them. When the crowd saw Jesus, they were overwhelmed with awe, and they ran to greet him.
âWhat is all this arguing about?â Jesus asked.
One of the men in the crowd spoke up and said, âTeacher, I brought my son so you could heal him. He is possessed by an evil spirit that wonât let him talk. And whenever this spirit seizes him, it throws him violently to the ground. Then he foams at the mouth and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid. So I asked your disciples to cast out the evil spirit, but they couldnât do it.â
Jesus said to them, âYou faithless people! How long must I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.â
So they brought the boy. But when the evil spirit saw Jesus, it threw the child into a violent convulsion, and he fell to the ground, writhing and foaming at the mouth.
âHow long has this been happening?â Jesus asked the boyâs father.
He replied, âSince he was a little boy. The spirit often throws him into the fire or into water, trying to kill him. Have mercy on us and help us, if you can.â
âWhat do you mean, âIf I canâ?â Jesus asked. âAnything is possible if a person believes.â
The father instantly cried out, âI do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!â
When Jesus saw that the crowd of onlookers was growing, he rebuked the evil spirit. âListen, you spirit that makes this boy unable to hear and speak,â he said. âI command you to come out of this child and never enter him again!â
Then the spirit screamed and threw the boy into another violent convulsion and left him. The boy appeared to be dead. A murmur ran through the crowd as people said, âHeâs dead.â But Jesus took him by the hand and helped him to his feet, and he stood up.
Afterward, when Jesus was alone in the house with his disciples, they asked him, âWhy couldnât we cast out that evil spirit?â
Jesus replied, âThis kind can be cast out only by prayer.â
[Mark 9:14-29 NLT]
5 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW:

Emily Dickinson (1882)
By the look of it, Malapascua Island in this picture , a low lying small island off the
northern tip of Cebu will be on the path in collision with the disastrous super
typhoon Haiyan or known as Yolanda by Philippine typhoon name.
I pray for those people even those I don't know, who are living on the path of disaster
of the typhoon land fall , may God will give them a divine escape route and hedge
of protection for those who call upon Him with true repentance at
heart - leave their idols !
Truth can truly hurt. I do apologize if this sound offensive to some, I do wish
never to hurt or offend , but I am speaking based on Biblical truth .
The Bible said if we don't speak what we knew or be able to warn
the people ( I believe this includes online ), when God take
their lives away left not warned , and it caused them to
to be eternally damned, God will claim their blood from
our hands --- woooooo are you prepared for that ? That's scary to
fall in front of God empty handed and accountable of the great loose of
many to eternity of damnation . God will judge !
As I follow Biblical truth I have no choice but to speak . It's truly a hard
bargain , but I have no other way but to be obedient by the word of God.
This is not to criticize in a negative way, but as a positive rebuke
and encouragement to discover and know God , have personal
relationship with Him through His son Jesus Christ , knowing God
for who He is and for His glory , not through traditions of men.
All of us will face God one day and answer our deeds whether
you like it or not.
In my understanding, this is the main spiritual issue of the Filipinos ,
although majority classify themselves as christians
being born in a Christian family, baptized as a baby
in a Christian church , attend Sunday service -but how many do
really worship God in the spirit in truth and
are born-again by the Spirit God ?
I said this because I once was .
I know many wouldn't like me saying this, I probably be hated by a number
from this time on but I'm speaking by conviction of the Lord
through this tiny window of flickr .
Many Filipinos do worship idols and are hard core and follow unbiblical
rituals which God hates. Though many may have known the truth
but they insist into their allegiance to religious traditions they
were accustomed to , which mostly are long man-made traditions.
Many do take pride and follow them mainly because of ignorance
of the true word of God.
Hosea 4:6
"My people perished because of lack of knowledge "
It's not about worldly knowledge from your college, but mainly of the
commandments of God.
This is the time of gradual purging from God !
This is the time of true repentance and acknowledging the one and
only God and His sanctity should never be mocked and mixed up
by false religious practices which are true abominations against God !
God's should never be represented by graven images and pictures to
be worshiped /hanged on walls , or on a grotto kissed and adored !
Where majority mixed up paganism practices and the occult
together merged into Christianity. We can't mixed them up .

*"Apocalyptic Super Typhoon (Yolanda) HAIYAN For Philippines
~~~~~~~<<~~~<<<@
Thank you for dropping by.
This is post and run, kind of . I just felt to upload this photo as
I felt heavy knowing I still have many pictures to post of Malapascua Island
and have had great memories when I was there. Knowing the island
is under the path of this mega disastrous typhoon seemed a shock to me.
I do pray sincerely for the people especially
the real poor ones who have less means to keep themselves to safety.
