Royal Canadian Air Force Station Jarvis was a Second World War British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP) station located near Jarvis, Ontario. The station was home to No. 1 Bombing and Gunnery School and is usually known by that name. Bombing and Gunnery schools trained Air Gunners, Wireless Air Gunners, Air Observers, Air Bombers, and Navigator-Bomb Aimers. These airmen served as aircrew on bombers and maritime patrol aircraft.
The British Commonwealth Air Training Plan was a temporary wartime measure that ended on 29 March 1945. No. 1 B&GS opened 19 August 1940 and closed on 17 February 1945. During this time 6,500 airmen were trained at Jarvis.

This is not a real Spitfire, but a full scale model, painted with the markings of Wing Commander Lloyd Vernon Chadburn's aircraft. The real ML380 was written-of on landing 13 Feb 1945 at Schijndel, Netherlands. Fourteen Canadian fighter squadrons flew the Spitfire in WWII and many more Canadians flew the aircraft as members of the RAF. In service with the RCAF between 1949 and 1950.
The Spitfire aircraft has been with the National Air Force Museum since 2001. It was donated by George Weston Ltd. with special contributions from the Canadian Fighter Pilots Association.

RCAF 9601 - Sikorsky H-5 Dragonfly - Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF)
at the NAFMC at CFB Trentpn/ON (YTR)
The H-5 Dragonfly was the RCAF RCAF’s first helicopter. Only seven H-5s were taken on by the RCAF, and they were used to give RCAF personnel experience in the flying and maintenance of helicopters. They taught the capabilities and restrictions of this new type of aircraft. One important part of the H-5’s service in Canada was to study and understand their performance under Canadian winter conditions. Due to the nature of the service, the H-5s spent most of their service in training or experiential units, although there some search and rescue work was done as well.
H-5 Dragonfly 9601 was taken on strength on April 5, 1947. It was the first of the seven Dragonflies that were taken on by the RCAF. It was originally assigned to Trenton for training duties, and then assigned to Edmonton, also for training. In 1950, H-5 Dragonfly 9601 was sent back to Trenton for repair and overhaul. When the overhaul was done, H-5 Dragonfly 9601 was sent to the Canadian Joint Air Training School in Rivers, Manitoba. After three years in the Canadian Joint Air Training School, it was sent to Cold Lake, Alberta, to the Experimental and Proving Establishment for five years. After that, it was sent to Chatham, New Brunswick, for five more years. On January 1965, H-5 Dragonfly 9601 was retired from active service and sent to the Canada Aviation and Space Museum in Ottawa.
The Dragonfly has been at the National Air Force Museum since 2012.

On the final day of Toronto's annual summer fair the Canadian National Exhibition (The CNE, The EX) and the final day of the CNE Air Show, my Dutch friend Chris messaged me to ask if I went. "No, I didn't..." I replied. After that, I felt like "OK, why not". Even though the air show had started already, if I rushed down to the Harbourfront, I could still see part of the performance from a distance (not as close as if I go to the CNE itself).
So an hour later, I found myself staring into the sky like tens of thousands of people along Toronto's lake shore.
RCAF "Sabre" S/N 23096 has just arrived at Boeing Field for its new life as a chase plane in the flight test division.
Internet sources giving varying dates when Boeing took delivery – 1962 or December 1967. I say ’62: The Canadian Red Ensign on the tail was replaced by the Maple Leaf in 1965. Okay, maybe they were slow in adding the new flag, but there is more… In the background of photo 2 there is no I-5 freeway. By Dec. 1967, this highway had been completed for almost a year. In 1962, the construction had yet to begin near Boeing Field.
Jet Fighter
The F-86 "Sabre", built by North American, is best known for its outstanding combat performance during the Korean War. First flown in 1947, the "Sabre" was the United States' first fighter to fly supersonic -- in a dive. Starting in December of 1950, the Russian-made MiG-15 and the F-86 met in combat over Korea. With superior training, experience, and aircraft performance, "Sabre" pilots posted a ten-to-one victory ratio over the similar MiG-15. The last U.S. Sabre was retired from the Air National Guard in 1965.
F-86s were built under license in Japan, Italy, Canada, and Australia. The Museum's example, called a CL-13B, is one of 1,815 "Sabre's" built by Canadair. It flew with the Royal Canadian Air Force until 1974, and served The Boeing Company as a chase plane for their flight test division until donated in 1991.
Canada: Coast-to-Coast
In 1956, Canadian Sabre pilots set out to break the cross-Canada speed record held by a Royal Canadian Navy T-33. R.J. "Chick" Childerhose and Ralph Annis refueled halfway, in Gimli, Manitoba. The 1,400-mile (2,240 km) second leg from Gimli to Halifax stretched the Sabre's range to the limit. While test-flying that leg, Annis landed in Halifax with eight gallons of fuel. Childerhose had five. Yet the official cross-Canada dash went off without a hitch. The "Sabre's", flying on fumes, arrived in Halifax five hours after takeoff from Vancouver, shattering the old record by an hour and twenty minutes.
