Snowbird #9 had not caught up to the rest of the planes yet!

Officially known as the Royal Canadian Air Force's 431 Air Demonstration Squadron, the Snowbirds are Canada's military aerobatics or air show flight demonstration team whose purpose is to "demonstrate the skill, professionalism, and teamwork of Canadian Forces personnel".

The sole surviving DC-4M/C-4/Argonaut/North Star, now undergoing a slow, but painstaking restoration in the workshop of the Canadian Aviation and Space museum at Ottawa. I took this shot from a high stairway, giving a different perspective on this magnificent aircraft, to the other shot of it that I posted here some time ago: www.flickr.com/photos/48975048@N06/15657284285/in/photoli...

RCAF 24101 - Lockheed P-2V7 / CP-127 Neptune - Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF)

at Greenwood Aviation Military Museum, Greenwood, NS. (YZX)

The aircraft on display is actually not one of the 25 Neptunes Canada operated between 1955 and 1968. The U.S. Navy's last operational Neptune flew into CFB Greenwood, NS on 27.08.1980, donated to "The Association for the Preservation of Land Based Maritime Aircraft",incorporated 15.05.1980 to accept the aircraft.

The Royal Canadian Air Force's Air Command replaced their aging Avro Lancaster maritime aircraft beginning in 1955 with P2V-7 Neptunes in the anti-submarine, anti-shipping, and maritime reconnaissance roles, as a stopgap pending deliveries of the Canadair CP-107 Argus, which began in 1960.

Engines: 2 Wright Cyclone R-3350 18 cylinder turbo-compound radial engines of 3,400 hp (2,535 kw) with water injection, turning four-bladed Hamilton Standard propellers and, after 1959, 2 Westinghouse J34-WE36 turbojets of 3,400 lbs static thrust each

Canadian Neptunes were delivered without the underwing Westinghouse J34 jet engine pods, which were retrofitted in 1959
