Macro Mondays, September 6: "Candy"

A juicy raspberry reflected in a mirror against a sparkly background.

Wine raspberry is a perennial, deciduous shrub growing to 9 feet high by 3 feet 3 inches wide at a medium rate. It is in flower from June to July, and the seeds ripen to edible fruit from August to September. The species is pollinated by Insects.Wine raspberry is easy to identify by its rounded leaflets and bristly stems with red hairs. The fruit can be eaten raw or cooked and is reported to be sweet and juicy. It is a raspberry-type fruit, in that it is smaller than a traditional raspberry, contains a lot of seeds, and is not quite as flavorful.

Created for: Macro Mondays theme, "In a Row". Well truth be told, I'm shooting on location (no studio lighting set-up) and the clothespins weren't too keen on a photoshoot modeling raspberry berets in 107 deg. F heat. They agreed to do it only if they could be close to the pool so they could go for a swim when it got too hot, go figure right! As for me, the shoot was pretty quick, especially with a big towel over my head so I could see where I was focusing. Five shots and that was that! I ate the raspberries which were very good but tasted almost cooked! The clothespins enjoyed a nice swim. I went back in the refrigerated house. The scene measures out at approximately 2.75 inches wide (good sized raspberries!) X 2.0 inches tall.

Shot with: VOIGTLANDER, 125mm f/2.5 SL, MACRO APO-LANTHAR @ f/11, 5 Layer Focus Stack Rendered w/Helicon Focus, (B,R8,S4). Pool water for background and the sun for light.

I was at an orchard yesterday and was pleasantly surprised to see that raspberries are still in season. They had "pick your own" raspberries. Red colors always seem to me to be a challenge for the DSLR to reproduce well. This is close to natural color, minimal processing.

The sun shone from the left side. I had fears that parts of the raspberries were over-radiated. On the contrary, the berries were illuminated by the sun

OK, so Sunday might have found me messing about with a raspberry and a torch, along with some dark material :D
