... Can you believe University Of The Arts has somehow lost their one and only copy of the original edition of Die Neue Typographie? Leaving only these hideous reprints from '87? It's a bit of a bummer, y'know, cause I'm writing an essay on the book – not merely on the text itself but on the book (the version designed by Tschichold) as a designed artefact. Oh well. My trek to Chelsea was not in vain as I ended up going for coffee with a friend I'd not seen in a while.
Heard just a minute ago that all checks have been passed and now it's all systems go!!!
wahey!!! :-))))
*update 2 Aug 07* should have said all systems wait... I might burst if I don't get another look soon! fingers crossed for the weekend. I can't concentrate on anything else! hopeless, eh? ;-)
thank you all so much for your well wishes. they're keeping me smiling :-))
Rant begins now.
Okay, so some of you may have read my rantings in Z's 365 days set recently or on facebook in my status updates.
Here's the thing...and remember (or let it be known) that I managed a travel agency for 7+ years so I am well aware of the inner workings of travel arrangements, first hand.
So, I'm about to redeem miles to go to the west coast in September. I figure with the rising cost of fuel and the airlines being "in trouble" all the time...it'd be best to use them now rather than lose them (as I just did with my United miles...I wasn't receiving my Mileage Plus summary updates for 4 months...not sure why....so I got an email in January saying I had X # of miles and then didn't get another til the beginning of July...then it said ZERO. Apparently they expired in May and I was unaware...having had no account activity in over 18 months, they just disappeared. To reinstate them will cost me about $300. You can imagine that I'm "writing them off".)
ANYWAY, I'm planning this trip. Well, I want to visit my 90 year Aunt that lives in Seal Beach for part of the trip. Clearly I'm not going to drive with a 4 y.o. from Seattle to Seal Beach (about 20 hrs), esp with the cost of gas. Sooooo, I need to book an "open jaw" ticket...into one city and out of another (I will buy the ticket between SEA and LAX). Well, USAirways website isn't capable of this maneuver when it comes to redeeming miles. NOW, it IS capable of it if I were to BUY the tickets. Hmmm. So, I'm forced to CALL. Well, knowing the business, I've done my research, know which flights are available on which dates and simply have to tell the agent on the phone the flight dates/#s and she plugs them in and it's done. Voila. Well, NOW USAir wants to charge $30/pp award processing fee $25/pp ticketing fee and $10/pp sec tax fee. So, for a family of 3...we're talking $195 for "FREE" tickets. Hmmm. Oh, and mind you...I'd spoken with 2 agents and 3 supervisors on Thursday and ALL of them neglected to mention the extra $10/pp fees... Til today, when I calmed down and tried to book ...this is when I found out about the extra money. Again, spoke with a supervisor, who was less than pleasant and got no where. You can imagine...I don't want to fly them now. I'd rather wait, use the miles later for something I can book online and save the $ and headache and say PHOOEY on you. I will be cutting up my USAir credit card and switching back to my United card (even though they lost my miles without any warning).
SO...I know I've got enough miles with American Airlines for 2 tickets. I call them, as their website is not set up to handle this type of mileage ticket either. BUT they do not charge a fee for speaking to a live person. The flight times are not as desirable as the ones with USAir...but they're not being jerks. I used to fly AA all the time for business and I like them. They are classy, they are on time and they have a good bit of leg room (not that it matters for my 5'3.5" frame...but it is nice).
So, here is my shameless plea for 25,000 miles to get the 3rd ticket for us JUST so I don't have to fly USAir.
Now, I don't expect that I'm going to get these miles...but I needed to rant somewhere and somewhere out there is someone that KNOWS exactly what I'm talking about and can commiserate with me.
So..now I'm done. Enjoy your weekends. I'll be back online in a few days....going to relax my brain at the beach starting tomorrow and will not have a computer. Whew.
*rant fume fume*
I hate my parents tonight. Grrr. Bottom line, I'm grounded. I have been for the past 9 months. Why am i grounded when im apparently of age? I believe in practicality. I don't think just running away would solve anything so blah, and my dad is absolutely crazy. Crazy Asian parents. Yes I did something wrong, but I didn't think it'd go for this long, seriously. The weather is getting colder lately and i've asked them if I can sleep in my room since I have a heated mattress. They say no, and yes I've been sleeping on the couch for the past freaking 9 months. They can't leave me alone at ALL.
All I do is classes, their store, home. I never have time alone, I never see my friends anymore, and they're completely mistrusting me ever since and I'm sick of it, I promise I will never do that again, if you'd just shut up and let me be. Before I got grounded, I was free until eleven at night, and I thought THAT was tough. Now WTF is this? In 3 months it'll be an year, and I might just blow up if they keep this ridiculous shrade up. I am so so so sick of it!!!
Picture from google by the way
3 girls show up with a few garbage bags full of clothes. stolen laundry? someone's donations? who knows. they proceed to rip through the bags trying things on and holding them up to themselves. then after taking what they need, they leave a huge pile of refuse on the sidewalk for someone else to clean up.
le sigh.

... no, f##k you ...
Montgomery Brogan in a captivating rant. Trish took Frankie swimming and I got the decadent pleasure to watch 25th Hour, one of my favorite movies.

PS. In 21st-century America, there's little excuse for not burying —or otherwise' hardening' — power and other utility lines. Here, as it is in much of the United States, it remains a 19th-century mode of transmission.
