The rake cautiosly snakes along the creek at about 30 mph. With a loaded rake, squealing of brakes can be deafening.

Huckleberry Rake Model (2011) - Real huckleberry rakes are about 2/3 the size of a shoebox. You comb the rake through a bush, and the berries fall into the container. Easier and faster than hand picking. I made this for a woman named Patricia (aka the Berry Fairy), who introduced me to the rake method of picking. The piece is about an inch tall.

In 1864 a patent was issued to William Shaw and John Manz, Wilmington, Del., for a self-rake reaper with gearing to cause the rakes to sweep gavels of grain from the cutting bed of the reaper (semi-circular platform). This patent was reissued in 1868 to Johnston, by now in Syracuse, N.Y., as the assignee of Shaw and Manz. Johnston Harvester Co. became a subsidiary of Massey-Harris Co. around 1910.

Horse-drawn reaping machine is a mechanical, semi-automated device that harvests crops. “THE McCORMICK REAPER” In 1831, Cyrus McCormick drove this one horse contraption through a wheat field to cut the very first grain mechanically; first patent 1834. He sold the first one in 1842 and began manufacturing them in Chicago in 1847 Under the name McCormick Harvesting Machinery Co later the company would merge to become The International Harvester Company.
