Origins of the hay rake: One Ohio man with a passion for invention helped shape our community and the world. Edward Huber was just 26 when he earned his first of more than 100 patents. This blacksmith and inventor created the revolving wood hay rake in 1863. Huber moved to Ohio with his wife and started building and marketing the hay rake in 1865. More than 200,000 hay rakes flew off the shelves as farmers snapped up this invention which allowed one worker to accomplish what used to take seven or more people. This image is a modern version of the hay rake.
During the rut, a bull moose's velvet will begin to die when the testosterone levels in his body increase. The velvet becomes itchy so the moose will use trees to scratch the velvet away from his antlers. During the spring and summer, the velvet carries blood to the antlers enabling them to grow.
The bull photographed here was an extremely large example. He scratched his antlers for about a minute before wandering away.
The large pointed tines in the front of the bull's rack are referred to as Brow Tines. In Alaska, the bull moose are much larger than in the lower 48 and southern Canada. Unfortunately, the larger the bull's rack the more sought after they are by hunters.
This bull moose is safe from hunters as long as it stays within Denali National Park's boundaries.

Not many mixed rake trains on the network these days. 70813 6E01 10:07 Carlisle New Yard to Barnetby Sdgs Colas Rail at Hatfield and Stainforth with a mix of oil tankers and log wagons.
Close inspection of this Spinner Dolphin will reveal several areas where parallel lines mark its body. These "rake marks" are made by the teeth of other dolphins during social interactions, play, or mating.
It was a very hot and humid day when I took this photo. It is a picture of young lady raking hay. She is dressed in black, and wearing a dress. The mules look tired. Also look at the tires on the hay rake. The tires are made from heavy metal maybe iron. That has to make pulling the rake in harder. Amish don't believe in rubber tires. Why I don't know but I was told that by a farmer
