I swung by the West Coast premiere of the Dari Project, which had originated in 2005 in New York City to document the lives of LGBTQ persons of Korean ancestry. The initial Dari Project, after years of hiccups, resulted in a bilingual book, which was released on 2 May 2013 in New York City.

This event was held at Asian-Pacific AIDS Intervention Team (APAIT) in Los Angeles, and was well attended by LGBTs and allies of many different Asian ethnicities.

Books, donation jar, and Dari Project's postcards. Also visible are bumper stickers - of Taegeukki (South Korea's national flag) with the LGBT rainbow treatment! A normal Taegeukki has a white background, which signifies "purity" - as in the purity of the Korean blood, which is a key concept of the Korean culture, and one I am not a fan of - so I'm happy to see this variation. Nevertheless I refused to help myself to one, since while most Korean-Americans associate Taegeukki with Korean traditional culture and history, I instead associate it like most non-Koreans do, with the fascist, homophobic South Korean government, and putting the LGBT rainbow background on a Taegeukki is no different than putting lipsticks on a pig.

free texture, feel free to use it but please link back to it if you do,nice to see how it's used.

This texture is free to use in your work, but you may not reshare, distribute, or claim/imply it to be your own. I would love to see what you create.

Title: The Eclipse

Theme Chosen: Space, Science, Technology , Energy, & Equality/Science

Number of participants: 2 - 6

Materials and techniques used: Paint, pastels, and markers

Participants: Autumn, Hayley, Johnny, Sarah

What is your artwork about? We all have peace, science, and family

Artwork 1: Essay by Autumn

“My design is a sun, space and the phases of the moon. My theme was space my design represents, my theme because the moon and sun are in space. My theme is important to the present/future because it’s outer space.”

Artwork 2: Essay by Johnny

“My design represents my theme by showing how far we have come in the world with science and technology. My theme is important because without science it would be hard in the world without knowing anything about it. As well as it may be a great thing in the future to understand more about it. WE can discover great things in the future with science. Hopefully we can things that we never dreamed about doing.”

Artwork 3: Essay by Hayley

“My design represents the theme of equality and energy. The rainbow background symbolizes the equality of all people. The yin-yang symbolizes positive and negative energy all throughout life. This theme is important in both the present and the future. This world needs to accept everyone and have complete equality.”

Artwork 4: Essay by Sarah

“My theme was science and it’s various elements. Unity is the main principle of design used in this project. It is used well because all the objects drawn have to do with nature and science. Rhythm is another principle property used in this piece because of the position of stars across the drawing and the various types of science on each branch. Movement is also used going around each branch by reading each type of science. My theme, science, is important to the present and the future so we can further advance in society.”

How can I make a difference? In 2008, a group of educators and artists formed the International Fiber Collaborative (IFC) a non-profit organization with a mission to create deeper learning experiences through art, collaboration, and cross-curricular programming for individuals and their communities.

IFC’s current initiative, The Dream Rocket Project, started in 2009 has exhibited submissions in over 105 venues; in 2014 submissions will be connected side by side to wrap a 363’ Saturn V Moon Rocket replica at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL (48’ taller than the Statue of Liberty).

With every artwork received a student has had to ask; what is my dream for my future, and the future of my community and our world? How can students across our nation with many skills collaborate to make a difference? How can creativity and other subjects such as space, technology, science, and leadership inspire innovation? How can I make a difference?

I enjoyed all afternoon around the castle, then I heard the explosions ... I reached the guns and while preparavono them to shoot, I settled for shooting the canon "and fortunately I selected continuous shooting" ...

Here are ready ... are there with an eye on my shot ... finger on the button and ... ahhhahahahhh

I made a series of shots with the land for a moment I was dancing under the feet ... his ears ringing with a feeling of quiet thud ... Then when I lifted my eyes from the canon I noticed that the cannon was moved back two feet

Ahhhahhh I have not seen my face ... but I'm sure that was a bit stupid, and this is the only shooting came ... But I am satisfied with a great experience and I like that rainbow that you created in the air making the atmosphere a little magic

Rainbow background I created

Looking at the horizon over a desolate cement landscape? Actually a shot of the Halo looking up a cement wall!

I used GIMP to create this rainbow inspired background, then finished it in PaintShop Pro X5. I added the flowers, butterflies and Hummingbird, then added a Vignette Effect to the whole piece. It's another colorful garden inspired digital artwork with allot of color. Copyright (c) D.M.S Studios - DANMAR CREATIONS.

A gigaFusion Original, this rainbow effect was made from a single multicolored line; cut-n-paste many times at different angles to build up the rainbow arc on a white background; 6 palette shifts done with IrfanView and saved into 6 files, setting background to 'clear' ; assembled into an Animated GIF with UnFREEz 2.1 at 350 milliseconds per frame.

I added of couple of birdhouses on to a watercolored rainbow background for this simple spring bling card.

Another entry into the Rainbow challenge at A Blog named Hero

Using the butterflies from DC182 Butterfly pair stamp & Cut. Started with the rainbow background painted with Pearlescent paints. It is a subtle rainbow - did five different colours. Originally I thought I'd cut out the butterflies but decided I liked the black on the coloured background. Die cut the stitched rounded rectangle by MFT and stamped the butterfly directly onto it and once on the rest of the watercolour paper. I die cut the second one. The die doesn't cut right through, just the wings, but I hand cut the last bit. Sentiment is from the same set.

Also did a matching envelope.

An inspiration to try a new background technique (embossed background+ watercolor) to create a stained glass effect came from Stretch your stamps 2 online class.

I believe this is an example of a circumhorizon arc. Colleen spotted this yesterday, so I had to run over to the new school to get an unobstructed view.

A little cloud to spice things up a bit.

Came across this interesting rainbow background public phone while scrolling at the changi airport.

In September 1963, as pressure was rising to end racial segregation, a racist group bombed the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. Four young black girls were killed and 22 other people injured as the bomb went off ahead of a Sunday morning service. Another two young black boys were shot dead nearby a few hours later.

Thousands of miles away in Wales, artist John Petts and the Western Mail newspaper organised a mass solidarity campaign to raise money to replace one of the stained glass windows that was destroyed in the blast. Petts designed the new window, which now has pride of place at the front of the church and is inscribed "from the people of Wales". With a rainbow background and a black Christ, his right hand blocking hatred and injustice and his left hand ushering in forgiveness, it was extremely controversial in racially segregated Alabama.
