Previous uses of the building include the city's first school (or "academy"), the Municipal Court, the Board of Education, and private offices beginning in 1982.
In 2007 Florida-based developer George Traikos purchased the four-story Class A/R structure from a local investment group. Aided by historic tax credits, Traikos successfully remodeled the Academy Building into a mixed-use development featuring lofts, WiFi, and a fitness center for tenants. The LEED Green Building Rating System was followed. The renovation was completed in September 2013.
Ice boat sailing on the frozen waters of Canandaigua Lake in Canandaigua, NY

Monroe Community Hospital is a county-owned health care facility providing quality long-term care to individuals with complex and chronic health conditions in Rochester NY. Construction of the building that we now know as Monroe Community Hospital began in 1931, in the midst of the nation's Great Depression. Siegmund Firestone, a notable Rochester architect and engineer, was hired to design and oversee the construction of this new facility. Mr. Firestone incorporated many innovative ideas into his design of the building and ensured that the project employed all local contractors. Mr. Firestone also hired a talented young architectural student and draftsman Thomas Boyde, Jr. as one of his assistants, and Boyde then became the first African-American architect in our community.

Clock tower at Sibley Building in downtown Rochester, NY. The Sibley Building was for many years the location of Sibley's. At 1.1 million square feet, it was once the largest department store between New York City and Chicago. The end of an era came in 1989, however, when Sibley's left the building and was purchased and rebranded as Kaufmann's two years later.

A beautiful find from early morning scouting in my backyard, technically not my backyard but the municipal owns the woods. But, this tiny little red plant caught my eye this Sunday morning.
There's no sound in the wood but for the rustle of the leaves in the breeze, the song of birds... but a fierce battle cry is the last thing an interloper would hear.
We start the second and final week of Fantasy Faire 2021! The events are done, and now it's just shopping and dancing and enjoying. It's a more relaxed feeling at the Faire this week, but for the frantic dash to hit all the stores before the Faire closes!
I found this wonderful viking tunic and boots from R3D Studio. The two pieces are sold separately, but certainly work wonderfully well together. The Einar tunic is sized for Maitreya/Legacy/Perky/Hourglass/Venus bodies, and comes in a whole bunch of different colours. The Runar boots are sized for Maitreya, Legacy, Slink and Belleza, and come in black, brown, and Beige. I added some lovely leggings from Silvan Moon Design's Daughter of Olaf outfit. You can find Silvan Moon Designs at Tempest Bay at the Fairegrounds.
My other pieces are from prior events, but nearly all are available at the Faire. I picked up my Bow of Galadhrim from Unity Maxim at the Faire last year, but you can find it at the Faire in the Amethyst Rift now.. Likewise, Mizu's Raider Hatchet is featured at Somniatoris Arx.
There's still a week left to enjoy the Faire! Come and explore! Shop! And support Relay for Life's fight against Cancer!
Aloha! A hui hou kākou!

Whole and sliced half of a fresh pineapple in a brown background.
The pineapple (Ananas comosus) is a tropical plant with edible multiple fruit consisting of coalesced berries, and the most economically significant plant in the Bromeliaceae family. Pineapples may be cultivated from a crown cutting of the fruit, possibly flowering in 20–24 months and fruiting in the following six months. Pineapple does not ripen significantly post-harvest.

Partially peeled ripe banana on a wooden cutting board in a brown background.
A banana is an edible fruit, botanically a berry, produced by several kinds of large herbaceous flowering plants in the genus Musa. (In some countries, bananas used for cooking may be called plantains.) The fruit is variable in size, color and firmness, but is usually elongated and curved, with soft flesh rich in starch covered with a rind which may be green, yellow, red, purple, or brown when ripe. The fruits grow in clusters hanging from the top of the plant. Almost all modern edible parthenocarpic (seedless) bananas come from two wild species – Musa acuminata and Musa balbisiana.
