This top whorl silk drop spindle is approximately 8 1/2 inches long and weighs 1.45 ounces. The top whorl and stem on this spindle is made from cherry, and the whorl has been adorned with a beautiful pyrographed motif. A brass hook has been inset in the top.

For this narrow blade paddle, I thought a burning of a tiny red breasted nutchatch would be appropriate
Another early piece, illustrating with wild birds the classic dog-cat-mouse-cheese chase scene. The hawk chases the blue jay who in turn chases the finch, who is after the seeds. Some day I'll do another one of this. Razertip burner on basswood plate.

Burning on the dining room table protected with an older beach blanket. Recently invested in a RazorTip wire point pyrography system...well worth it for more fine temperature control.
This method of decoration by burning was originally called pokerwork. It is not often found on spoons and, as here, has an individualistic, artistic character.
The origin of these carved spoons and of their decoration is unknown, but Hüsnü Züber of Bursa researched and made such spoons until the 1980s.
The unvarnished spoon and fork were probably not made for use and also are not a true pair.
