Initially I had a problem making this strip work. I programmed the Arduino Mega, wired everything then connected power. I was using the supplied connector already soldered on to the strip. On a few resets I had some LEDs lit but nothing changed the sample program did not work. I couldn’t work out where I was going wrong. My first thoughts centred around a lack of power.

 

I then checked the other end of the strip without a connector and noticed the screen printed white text labels. DI and CI for Data In and Clock In. I’d been using the wrong end, I had been connecting to DO and CO for Data Out and Clock Out. In my defence the labels at the other end were obscured by the rubber housing. It was an easy fix after soldering on some wires it worked first go. Very cool.

This is a setup to see the FT motor control of the TXT. There are 2 motors FT 135484 used, each with a hall decoder signal. The motors are controlled via RoboPro on the PC and the TXT controller. So there is the possibility to control both motors separately but also to let them work together in synchronous mode. The motor decoder signals are on the C1 and the C2 inputs of the TXT. I also connected them simultaneously to my SPI box which is connected to the FPGA. There are also 2x2 decoder signals connected to the SPI box from additional quadrature decoders. The decoder disks are placed directly on the output motor shaft and give 76 p/tr. The internal decoder of the FT motor gives 76.1719 p/tr.

The SPI I/O box is connected to the FPGA that maintains the position of both motors. These values can be read at any time by the TXT via I2C.

 

For the measurements the Picoscope 2406B is used with 4 channels, 2GS and a deep buffer memory of 32 Mb. This allows very long recording records to be made. At a sample interval of 2us, recordings can be made up to 100 sec on the 4 channels. I use 2 channels for the analog measurement of the engines. Here are on each motor connection 2 resistors of 68 ohms placed and its center point goes to the scope. So you always have positive signals independent of the motor direction. You measure half the motor voltage versus ground.

 

The position of both motors, tracked in the FPGA, is at every position change serially sent to the scope. Because I also need an ena signal, the clk + ena are brought together via 3 resistors. This way I save a channel on the scope. The data transfer time for a motor position is 87 usec. Compared to the PWM period of 4785 us you should not miss any position change.

At the max speed of the motor you have about 315 tr/min which gives an encoder pulse every 2500 usec.

 

The PicoScope can make an export of all these motor position values to put them in tables afterwards and create a diagram. This way you can see the progress of the motor movement as a function of time, deviations, positioning times etc.. With synchronous motor control of 2 motors you also see the mutual deviation.

Dit is een opstelling om de FT motor sturing van de TXT te zien. Er zijn hierbij 2 motoren FT 135484 gebruikt die voorzien zijn van elk een hall decoder signal. De motoren worden via RoboPro op de PC en de TXT controller gestuurd. Zo is er de mogelijkheid om beide motoren afzonderlijk te sturen maar ook om ze in synchrone mode samen te laten werken. De motor decoder signalen liggen op de C1 en de C2 ingangen van de TXT. Ik heb ze ook gelijktijdig verbonden met mijn SPI box die aangesloten is op de FPGA. De SPI I/O box is verbonden met de FPGA die de positie van beide motoren bijhoud. Deze waarden kunnen op ieder ogenblik door de TXT via I2C uitgelezen worden.

 

Voor de metingen is de Picoscope 2406B gebruikt met 4 kanalen, 2GS en een diepe buffer geheugen van 32 Mb. Dit laat toe heel lange opname records te maken. Bij een sample interval van 2us kunnen opnames gemaakt worden tot 100 sec op de 4 kanalen. Ik gebruik 2 kanalen voor de analoge meting van de motoren. Hierbij zijn op iedere motor aansluiting 2 weerstanden van 68 ohm geplaatst en het middenpunt ervan gaat naar de scope. Zo heb je altijd positieve signalen onafhankelijk van de motor richting. Je meet de halve motor spanning tov ground.

 

De positie van beide motoren, bijgehouden in de FPGA, wordt bij iedere positie verandering serieel naar de scope doorgestuurd. Omdat ik ook een ena signaal nodig heb zijn de clk + ena via 3 weerstanden samen gebracht. Zo spaart ik een kanaal op de scope. De data transfert tijd voor een motor positie bedraagt 87 usec. Tov de PWM periode van 4785 us moet je zo geen enkele positie verandering missen.

Bij de max snelheid van de motor heb je ongeveer 315 tr/min wat een encoderpuls geeft om de 2500 usec.

 

De PicoScope kan een export maken van al deze motor positie waarden om die achteraf in tabellen te plaatsen en een diagram mee te maken. Zo zie je het verloop van de motor beweging in functie van de tijd, afwijkingen, positioneer tijden enz. Bij synchroon motor sturing van 2 motoren zie je ook de onderlinge afwijking.

Ex-WR Departmental shunter 97651 at Pitsford on the Northampton and Lamport Railways on 23 December 2000. Although carrying the TOPS number 97651 this loco will always be PWM 651 to me. Formerly based at Radyr depot, near Cardiff, I used to see this loco regularly when I lived in Cardiff, either at Radyr, or out on pw duties almost anywhere in S.Wales.

 

In preservation it was based on the NLR for some years before being take to the Strathspey Railway. It is now privately owned and based on the Swindon and Cricklade Railway.

I certainly took my time putting this one together. This is a

desulfator based on Alastair Couper's original design. I made a few

changes.

 

1. AVR microcontroller instead of a 555 timer for PWM

2. Built in thermistors to prevent the board for overheating

3. TTL serial out for ZigBee transceiver

4. BCD LED display for battery voltage (0-79V)

 

What I hope to achieve with this circuit is a way to remotely monitor

battery arrays as they are desulfating. This could greatly reduce the

amount of labor required to recondition flooded lead acid batteries.

Here is a detail of the brake zone of the engine2. On the 3rd channel the decoder of the FT motor is added here. This gives an even better insight in how the TXT controls the whole thing. A started PWM section is never interrupted. If the state of the position changes at the beginning of a PWM period, the TXT will only react in the next PWM period. Around time 703.8ms you see the integration of the PWM signal. After each PWM period, the output is slightly wider. Slightly before time 739.5 you see that the FT encoder gives a rising edge. The controller adjusts the integration to a lower value and then back up again. Slightly before 757.4 an encoder pulse comes in again, causing the TXT to stop as this is the desired position 200. My spi readout is a bit later, I don't react on the FT encoder but on my quadrature encoder and they are not stark connected. In front of the quadrature encoder there is a gear reduction of the motor.

 

Between the values of the position you see that more time passes as you approach the end position. The TXT has just slowed down a bit too much ( pos 198 ) so it needs some extra time to reach the last 2 pulses.

Hier is een detail te zien van de afrem zone van de motor2. Op het 3de kanaal is hier de decoder van de FT motor toegevoegd. Dit geeft nog een beter inzicht hoe de TXT het geheel regeld. Een begonnen PWM gedeelte wordt nooit onderbroken. Als de toestand van de positie wijzigd aan het begin van een PWM periode zal de TXT slechts in de volgende PWM periode reageren. Rond tijd 703.8ms zie je de integratie van het PWM signal. Na iedere PWM periode wordt de uitsturing iets breder. Iets voor tijd 739.5 zie je dat de FT encoder een stijgende flank geeft. De controller past de integratie aan naar een lagere waarde om daarna weer op te lopen. Iets voor 757.4 komt weer een encoder puls binnen waardoor de TXT stopt gezien dit de gewenste positie 200 is. Mijn spi uitlezing is iets later, ik reageer niet op de FT encoder maar op mijn quadrature encoder en die zijn niet stark verbonden. Voor de quadrature encoder zit een tandwiel reductie van de motor tussen.

 

Tussen de waarden van de positie zie je dat er meer tijd verloopt naargelang je de eind positie nadert. De TXT heeft net iets te veel afgeremd ( pos 198 ) waardoor hij wat extra tijd nodig heeft om de laatste 2 pulsen te bereiken.

This is a Three-Phase Buck PWM Controller with Integrated MOSFET Drivers made by Intersil Americas Inc.

 

The bottom left and bottom right sections appear to be mirror images of each other, pairing this information with the block diagram provided by the datasheet (pdf1.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/view/180639/INTERSIL/...) I think the right half of the block diagram is the bottom half of this image.

 

There are three repeating structures on the right half of the block diagram, If you look at the bottom middle half of this die shot you can see that if you rotate it 90 degrees clockwise it looks almost identical to the bottom left section.

 

This leads me to believe that these sections are each responsible for one of the three phases.

 

There is writing in the bottom right corner, top left corner and top right section.
