North Korea’s latest missile launch appears to put U.S. capital in range

North Korea claimed the entire United States mainland was within reach after “successfully” testing a new kind of intercontinental ballistic missile, which it called the Hwasong-15, and said could carry a “super large heavy ...

Mmm.. Beast Wars.

So I came across this piece recently, just knowing it was a Takara Tigatron figure. Takara, as you know from my bitching about it constantly, usually puts more paint on their figures so I figured why the hell not.

With a little more research, it appears that this figure is actually the one that came with Telemocha series - toys that came packaged with an audio CD with some sort of play.

Much like the Optimus Primal I own, it's actually above and beyond what would normally be on a Takara release, as it was released as a sort of Anniversary commemorative edition.

So.. what's to say about this figure? For those familiar with the Beast Toys line, the fact Tigatron here is a retool of the Cheetor toy. Generally speaking, the Takara version was actually white (though will probably turn yellow over time), whereas the Hasbro version was cream/yellow to begin with.

Furthermore, other than more paint, the stripes on Tigatron are a different pattern than the Hasbro release. You'll probably notice there are many more metallic paint apps on this version, which were included to make the toy appear more like its TV counterpart.

So, in essence, until the inevitable MP version is released, this is still the prettiest, most screen accurate toy of this character.

Tigatron came with two weapons. One that is converted from his tail section, and another from his Tiger chest, which also is a squirt gun. Naturally, the Mutant Mask gimmick is there too.

Generally speaking, the 10 years between G1 and Beast Wars Season 1 resulted in much better robot modes. Articulation is decent, including waist movement, though sadly moulding on the upper thighs limits articulation of the legs. Ball joints were prevalent in this line.

I'm not a fan of the beast alt modes, but if you've read enough of my thoughts this should be no surprise to you. As this is one of the earliest animal releases, much like Optimus Primal, the animal mode is pretty comical looking. Again, understandably so, but still funny to me.

I feel the Predacons actually had the better toys.. ish. Unless your name was Black Arachnia, and you were a repaint of Taurantulas.

Nice to see one of these vehicles has been used for what they are intended, instead of being driven by Hairdressers!

When the singer yells "Put your hands up!", the dancers all raise their hands and wave them.

When the singer yells "Are you having a good time!", the dancers all make a joyful noise.

I put this photo here since I'm curious about what it says about Tokyo's crows, and I'm hoping someone can translate this for me some day.

UPDATE 22/6/03: I didn't think it would be so soon! Kurt Keller sent this translation:

Gyoen crows

When strolling through the park, you'll see many Hashibuto crows. They used to live in forests, but now can also be found around parks in the cities and in fields. They feed on food thrown away by humans. Since we tend to fill our dustbins with ever more food, there's more than enough for the crows. Thus their number rapidly increases. In Gyoen park there are currently around 300-400 Hashibuto crows. Clever and curious, as they are, with a large body and the tendency to act in groups, they are scary or even dangerous for other animals. For example they attack the nests and hatched young of other birds and eat new born turtles. In groups they even attack herons, eagles or owls and drive them away. When the number of crows increases, the number of other animals decreases.

Don't feed the crows. Don't leave bags with food unattended, as the crows would go and steal the food.

and to think we were worried there wasn't a tag on it. "how will they know what plane it goes on?" we thought.

"...oh. it goes on THE plane."

A wise man once said, “The Earth laughs in flowers.” Flowers are the prettiest of nature’s creation. They add colour to the world. Flowers make everyone happy. And who does not like a Rose! One of the prettiest flowers there is, the beauty of the Rose flower is such that every heart skips a beat on seeing one! No wonder Rose is associated with love.

Flourishing Flowers

Roses are among the favourite flowers to grow. Most modern varieties of Rose plants available today bloom throughout the growing season. They have a lucrative market and find buyers easily. Like all plants, the quality of the bloom of the Roses depends on the basic triangle of Soil, Water and Light. While we do not have much control over the Sun that provides the light, we can definitely tweak Soil and Water to achieve better results. The key to flourishing flowers lies in the quality of the water used for irrigation and the soil used for planting.

Rose plants require more water during the initial stages. This phase is critical as it determines how the plant and the subsequent bloom will shape up. The nourishment provided during the initial phase is crucial. Rose plants require more water in the growing season. They need water of a good quality that charges them and keeps them well hydrated throughout the day. If the weather is particularly hot, dry and windy, the soil is fast draining. This necessitates additional water for better hydration. Also, the soil must be such that it retains moisture for a longer duration.

We put the Plan in Planting!

Structured water is the secret to healthy plant growth & bigger roses. Structured Water puts the plan into your planting. It has been scientifically demonstrated that the use of Structured Water improves soil quality. Structured Water increases oxygen concentration, betters the bioavailability of water & nutrients to plants. It also significantly reduces the dependence on fertilizers & pesticides.

Crystal Blue’s Water Structuring Devices are inspired by the natural scheme of things. They emulate the natural processes and enhance water at the molecular level. Harmful chemicals that are added to soften and disinfect water are neutralized in water structuring devices.

Structured water has a greater ability than unstructured water to hydrate and nourish plants as it has lower surface tension. It also penetrates easily into the soil and helps in water conservation. The soil permeability is improved, which allows the accumulated salt buildup to sink deeper into the soil, which aids in better absorption of nutrients to the plants. Structured Water has a balanced pH and aids in the better growth of plants.

With the use of Structured Water, the Rose blooms are healthier and stronger. Also, the blooms last longer and have a longer shelf life.

We came across this guy in the cloth cap, brandishing a Ukip poster in the midst of the Put it to the People demonstration in Trafalgar Square. He appeared to be up for a serious discussion, but within about five minutes he had made clear his views that:

* Climate change is a myth put about to seek to justify higher taxes on the people

* You can't trust opinion polls; they'll all a fix

* What Brexiteers are really up against is a World Government, bent on enforcing its will

* A post-Brexit British Government needs to be able to do free trade deals with the rest of the world

* By contrast, the Trump Government in America is right to turn its back on free trade

*There is no contradiction between these last two views!

I put this mini spot lite together as a fill lite for photographing models and other small items. The small edison screw lamp socket came from a disused lava lamp. Its cable clamp has a 3/8 inch thread. A 1/4 inch accessory stud mount was mated to it with a section of plastic packaging. The accessory stud mount is attached to a universal Manfrotto quick-mount shoe, which snaps handily onto the 785B tripod.

When we put in the patio, we hunted for awhile to find some light fixtures that would cast the light down toward our feet and not up toward the sky. I really just wanted an outlet for Christmas tree lights in the winter, and maybe a couple lights for foot safety. In the winter, it's nice to have the light since it gets dark early. I wanted to avoid polluting the dark night sky with our lights, a real pet peeve of mine. These have worked well. The cap on it was originally made of wood, though, and didn't hold up well. This solution has been much better.
