I took this photo in Point Lobos, September 2017.

Humpback whales are intelligent, playful animals, and I witnessed much more sweetness than my camera captured during that gorgeous California sunset. During that whole trip, actually.

At the same time, in September 2017, in Rarotonga, the Cook Islands, two adult humpback whales were observed protecting snorkeler and whale biologist Nan Hauser from a 4.5 m (15 ft) tiger shark, with one whale pushing the woman away from the shark while the other used its tail to block the predator's advances. This may be the first recorded incidence of humpback whales acting protectively over a human.

Perhaps Nan Hauser is biased in her explanation of whale behavior. Still, I firmly believe that when it comes to communicating basic needs such as survival, animals do it better than us.

We are full of crap, full of biases and egos.

Most of us, because triumph is made more visible than failure, systematically overestimate our chances of succeeding. Naturally, we deserve the shark that bites our ass.

Most of us are gullible too, just like Khaled Hosseini puts it in The Kite Runner: " And that's the thing about people who mean everything they say. They think everyone else does too.” Again, naturally, we deserve the shark that bites our ass.

A typical cargo ship of the pre-container era, with cranes and derricks for loading and offloading freight, this merchant ship is seen at the bottom of a trough whilst sailing into heavy weather. This is the closest photo of the vessel seen in my last two submissions. Taken by a relative returning to Brunei following a mid-tour leave in the UK.

The image was taken from aboard the P&O ocean liner SS Orsova which was sailing past in the opposite direction. The freighter would appear to be in the Agulhas Current, the western boundary current of the south-west Indian Ocean. It flows south along the east coast of Africa from 27°S to 40°S. It is narrow, swift and strong. It is suggested that it is the largest western boundary current in the world ocean, with an estimated net transport of 70 million cubic metres/second. This is the second of several photos looking at ships struggling in that current.

Whilst I know which ports the Orsova was sailing between, the map location is entirely arbitrary. Scanned from a slide.

It's safe to say that photography is one of my favourite things. Keeps me sane and pushes me to continually learn and improve what I do. Gets me out the house too.

Push to dream, premi ed esprimi un desiderio, un pensiero, un sogno.

Viaggio con la mente sognare non costa niente, ci provo lo scrivo e forse si avverrà.

Dedicato a chi ha ancora sogni nel cassetto.

I fly with thoughts. To dream cost nothing.

I try, I write it, and maybe it will comes true.

Dedicated to who has secret dreams yet.

And I can see the winter fade

I don't feel so afraid it's clearing

What does it take to capture the beauty of the evening sky? In this case, I had to max out the capabilities of my cheap equipment...and several layers of clothing to combat the cold winter breeze.

Okay I’ll admit it, I have lens envy!

Let me just start by saying how grateful I am for my camera, I love it and I am trying to learn to use it… but within all that I’ve learned I find I am limited by my lens. I want a 50mm so bad my teeth itch (whatever that means)!

So while I wait for my very own ‘nifty 50’ I am playing with settings and attempting to get closer (so to speak).

Kentish Town Underground Station, London, England

Back Underground again and this time to Kentish Town Underground station, a previously unvisited station of mine. It is certainly a busy station with an interchange with the Midland Mainline so I couldn't get many images like I wanted. This is an image of the the two escalators coming from the surface.

In other news, Sony have just announced a full frame compact system camera, the A7 and A7r. I have been looking at initial reviews and it looks promising and very affordable. Lenses are a little sparse for it at moment but this is the case with all new cameras. Will be available at start of December and I may get one and move up to full frame. :-)
