Historic Environment Record for H BUILDING, Malvern, UK

The building, having military purposes and designated locally as H building, sits on a former Government Research site in Malvern, Worcestershire at Grid Ref SO 786 447. This site was the home of the Telecommunications Research Establishment (TRE) from 1946. It has been owned by QinetiQ since 2001 and is in the process (October 2017 to February 2018) of being sold for redevelopment.

This unique building has at its heart a ‘Rotor’ bunker with attached buildings to house radar screens and operators as well as plant such as emergency generators. Twenty nine Rotor operational underground bunkers were built in great urgency around Britain to modernise the national air defence network, following the Soviet nuclear test in 1949. Two factors make H building’s construction and purpose unique; this prototype is the only Rotor bunker built above ground and it was the home to National Air Defence government research for 30 years. This example of a ROTOR bunker is unique instead of being buried, it was built above ground to save time and expense, as it was not required to be below ground for its research purpose.

H Building was the prototype version of the Rotor project R4 Sector Operations Centre air defence bunkers. Construction began in August 1952 with great urgency - work went on 24 hours a day under arc lights. The main bunker is constructed from cross bonded engineering bricks to

form walls more than 2 feet thick in a rectangle approximately 65ft x 50ft. The two internal floors are suspended from the ceiling. The original surrounding buildings comprise, two radar control and operator rooms, offices and machine plant.

The building was in generally good order and complete. The internal layout of the bunker remains as originally designed. The internal surfaces and services have been maintained and modernised over the 55 years since its construction (Figure 3). The first floor has been closed over.

There are some later external building additions around the periphery to provide additional accommodation.

In parts of the building the suspended floor remains, with 1950s vintage fittings beneath such as patch panels and ventilation ducts.

The building has been empty since the Defence Science & Technology Laboratories [Dstl] moved out in October 2008

As lead for radar research, RRE was responsible for the design of both the replacement radars for the Chain Home radars and the command and control systems for UK National Air Defence.

Project Rotor was based around the Type 80 radar and Type 13 height finder. The first prototype type 80 was built at Malvern in 1953 code named Green Garlic. Live radar feeds against aircraft sorties, were fed into the building to carry out trials of new methods plotting and reporting air activity

A major upgrade of the UK radar network was planned in the late 1950s – Project ‘Linesman’ (military) / ‘Mediator’ (civil) – based around Type 84 / 85 primary radars and the HF200 height finder. A prototype type 85 radar (Blue Yeoman) was built adjacent to H Building in 1959. live radar returns were piped into H Building.

Subsequently a scheme to combine the military and civil radar networks was proposed. The building supported the research for the fully computerised air defence scheme known as Linesman, developed in the 1960s, and a more integrated and flexible system (United Kingdom Air Defence Ground Environment or UKADGE) in the 1970s.

The building was then used for various research purposes until the government relinquished the main site to QinetiQ in 2001. Government scientists continued to use the building until 2008. Throughout its life access was strictly controlled by a dedicated pass sytem.

Notable civil spin-offs from the research in this building include the invention of touch screens and the whole UK Civil Air Traffic Control system which set the standard for Europe.

Chronology

1952 - Construction work is begun. The layout of the bunker area duplicates the underground version built at RAF Bawburgh.

1953 - Construction work is largely completed.

1954 - The building is equipped and ready for experiments.

1956-1958 - Addition of 2nd storey to offices

1957-1960 - Experiments of automatic tracking, novel plot projection systems and data management and communications systems tested.

1960-1970 - Project Linesman mediator experiments carried out including a novel display technique known as a Touch screen ( A World First)

TOUCHSCREEN

A team led by Eric Johnson in H building at Malvern. RRE Tech Note 721 states: This device, the Touch Sensitive Electronic Data Display, or more shortly the ‘Touch Display’, appears to have the potential to provide a very efficient coupling between man and machine. (E A Johnson 1966). See also patent GB 1172222.

Information From Hugh Williams/mraths

1980-1990 - During this period experiments are moved to another building and H building is underused.

1990-1993 - The building was re-purposed and the bunker (room H57) had the first floor closed over to add extra floor area.

2008- The bunker was used until late 2008 for classified research / Joint intelligence centre

2019 - Visual Recording of the buildings interior by MRATHS. Be means of a LIDAR scan and photographs being taken. The exterior was mapped with a drone to allow a 3D Image of the building to be created via Photogrammetry. This was created in Autodesk Photo Recap.

In 2022, I returned to Colombia. The main purpose of this trip was to explore the Amazonian rainforest areas near Leticia and then on the Rio Negro. In 2007 I was in the Leticia area on a volunteering project and the 2022 trip gave me the chance to see more of the area.

As these are border areas, with the rivers travelled actually being the borders, I also visited / transitted through Brazil, Peru and Venezuela. I will create one master set / album for the entire six week trip, plus separate country albums to help viewers who are interested only in a specific country.

I also spent time in Bogota and in the Boyaca region. Overall intinerary: London - Leticia - Bogota - Villavincenzio - Rio Negro - Puerto Inirida - Bogota (incl Nemocon) - Villa de Leyva - Tunja - Bogota - London.

Dali City, formerly known as Tali, is the county-level seat of the Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture in northwestern Yunnan,

Similar to Carlisle in England, Dali City is not a single city but a county-sized area called a city for administrative purposes. Transportation to "Dali" usually arrives at the modern industrial city called Dali but locally distinguished by its former name Xiaguan. Travelers to and discussion of "Dali", however, usually refers to the old town located about an hour away. The old town is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Yunnan, known for its natural scenery, historical and cultural heritage, and vibrant nightlife.

HISTORY

The Dali area was formerly known as Jumie (苴咩, Jūmiē). The old town was the medieval capital of both the Bai kingdom Nanzhao (fl. 8th and 9th centuries) and the Kingdom of Dali (937–1253). That city was razed and its records burnt during its conquest by China's Mongolian Yuan Dynasty. The present old town was organized in the late 14th century under the Hongwu Emperor of the Ming Dynasty. The area became significantly Muslim (Hui) under the Yuan and Ming and was the center of the Panthay Rebellion against the Qing from 1856–1863. It was severely damaged during a massive earthquake in 1925.

Rail and then air transport have permitted the area (particularly Dali Old Town) to become accessible to tourists in the 20th century. It is now one of China's official tourist cities and, along with nearby Lijiang, one of the most popular. To preserve the appeal of the old town, industrial development is restricted to areas such as Xiaguan while building codes mandate new construction the old town and surrounding countryside must conform to the traditional Chinese style, with tiled roofs and brick, plaster, or white-washed walls.

GEOGRAPHY

Dali City is northwest of the provincial capital, Kunming: about 40 minutes by air or 7 hours by train.

Dali is located on a fertile plateau between the Cangshan Range to the west and Erhai lake to the east. It has traditionally been settled by the Bai and Yi minorities. It is also the capital of the Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture.

SITES OF INTEREST

Dali is one of Yunnan's most popular tourist destinations. Sights include:

- Dali museum

- Chong Sheng Temple

- Guanyin Palace of Copper Rain (rebuilt in 1999)

- Jianji Great Bell of Nanzhao (recast in 1997)

- Three Pagodas

- Butterfly Spring

- Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils film city

Xizhou: a historical town famed for its architecture and woodwork

- Shaxi: a historical town in Jianchuan County on the ancient tea route

- Shuang lang: on the opposite side of the lake, once a small fishing village, now a rather high-class tourist destination, most buildings and businesses having overtaken the village since 2012. The coast is now completely built up by tourism estates.

ECONOMY

Much of the local economy now centers around tourism and services catering to travelers.

Historically, Dali was able to control some of the trade between India and China and independently famed for the woodworkers of Xizhou (喜州, Xǐzhōu) and for its high-quality marble, used both for construction and decorative objects. It was so prominent in the latter that the modern Chinese word for marble is literally "Dali stone" (大理石, dàlǐshí).

There is also local tea

TRANSPORTATION

LOCAL TRANSPORTATION

Local transport includes busses, taxis, bicycles, and boats on Erhai Lake. Local busses 4 & 8 provide service from Xiaguan to the old town (1 hr).

AIR

Dali Airport (DLU) is a domestic airport about 13 km (8.1 mi) east of Xiaguan on Weishan or Airport Rd. Taxis run about 60 RMB to Xiaguan or 90 RMB to the old town.[citation needed] It services (as of 2014) Kunming (20 min), Xishuangbanna (25 min), Chongqing (70 min), Chengdu (80 min), Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Guiyuan.

ROAD

Dali (i.e., Xiaguan) is connected to Kunming and points east by the Hangrui Expressway (G56), which also runs west to Ruili on the Burmese border. The Dali Expressway (G56₁₁) is a spur connecting it with Lijiang. The road to the old town is China National Highway 214, which connects to the expresseway to Lijiang north of the lake. It also runs south from Xiaguan to Menghai near the Burmese border.

Long-distance busses run from the old town's west gate to Kunming (about 4½ hrs), Lijiang, and Shangri-La. Every Monday, service is also available to Shaping for its market.

Long-distance busses run from Xiaguan's stations on Jianshe Road.

RAIL

Dali (i.e., Xiaguan) has rail connections with daily service to Kunming via the Guangtong-Dali Railway and Lijiang via the Dali-Lijiang Railway. Service to Kunming usually consists of one train during the day and two trains running overnight, with sleeper cars. As the railway network expands in Yunnan, train service will become available to Shangri-La County and Ruili.

CLIMATE

Its low latitude tempered by its high elevation, Dali has a mild subtropical highland climate (Köppen Cwb) with short, mild, dry winters and warm, rainy summers. Frost may occur in winter but the days still generally warm up to 15 °C or more. During summer, a majority of the days features some rainfall and daytime temperatures rise to 24 °C. A great majority of the year's rainfall occurs from June to October. December 2013 was particularly marked for its high snowfall.

WIKIPEDIA

USCG 33135 is a 33' Law Enforcement Special Purpose Craft (SPC-LE). The waters around Port Everglades are busy with recreational craft much of the time and especially during the departure of cruise ships. The USCG works with the Broward County Sheriff to keep the channel clear for these departures.

The U.S. Coast Guard is quite unlike the similarly named organisation in the UK which evolved into the Maritime and Coastguard Agency. In the US it is one of the armed forces and comes under the auspices of the Department of Homeland Security which reflects the strength and breadth of its role. A boat is any CG vessel of less than 65' in length. Larger vessels are known as 'cutters'.

At the Jay Estate in Rye, we try to make history, which is often perceived as old and dusty, something fresh and relevant. To do this we rely heavily on our partnerships with area schools, other non-profits and corporate grantors like Rye's own Con Edison, all of whom have the vision to think outside the box and outside the classroom. Together, we've created new hands-on opportunities to train the "Founders" of tomorrow and promote civic engagement in a multitude of fields.

Well you can't get much more hands-on than archaeology which is a critical component of environmental review at any landmark site, including our own. So this past month, six Rye Country Day High School volunteers really lived their school's motto of "Not for Self but For Service" and put themselves through a rigorous dirt-under-your-fingernails field experience! Not only did they help uncover and identify cultural resources for JHC but they also helped create a template for mini-archaeology camps that will be offered to younger kids in Westchester later this summer.

In their report to their advisor they explained, "For our senior term project, we elected to help with an archaeological dig at the Jay Heritage Center, assisting Dr. Eugene Boesch in searching for artifacts that might reveal more about John Jay's 1745 colonial farmhouse - the home where he grew up as a child in Rye. Following criteria set by the Department of the Interior, we dug, screened, measured and catalogued 18th century square nails and iridescent glass, an assortment of glazed pottery and creamware, a clay tobacco pipe bowl marked TD and a pipe stem, and pieces of animal bones. But our most exciting find was probably a prehistoric tool or scraper revealing the presence of earlier First Nations encampments on the site. We learned that archaeology is a necessary part of environmental review since our cultural resources are fragile and not renewable. "

While most adults might stereotype kids this age as being glued to the screens on their I-phones, these girls worked diligently and thoughtfully mastering large wooden screens to sift shovelfuls of earth for artifacts. The prize? Holding a prehistoric stone blade in their hands, one they dug up themselves after 3 patient, buggy days in the hot sun. As one girl admitted, it had that "Wow, Indiana Jones" excitement to it but it also made them appreciate that other people "breathed" here.

At the end of the week, the girls cleaned, labeled and photographed their finds. Several asked if they could come back as counselors for the mini-archaeology camp, hoping to witness the same excitement on the faces of a dozen 10 year old summer campers when they make their own awesome discoveries.

It is close partnerships with area schools and corporate grantors like Con Edison that make programs of civic engagement like this possible. Students leave our site with visual and tactile impressions more indelible than looking at any image in a textbook or Smart board. As a result, they are the ones digging even deeper for greater, more visible returns on their hard work when they come back to volunteer again.

Hong Kong Transport - Trucks

The Hong Kong Truck Culture

The number of Trucks, Vans* and Special Purpose Vehicles (Light, Medium & Heavy) registered + licenced in Hong Kong seems to fluctuate between 120,000 - 125,000 vehicles and presumably new trucks registered are offset by old trucks being retired or sold over the border in China.

*Vans are classified as Light Goods Vehicles and are not shown in this album

In Hong Kong Trucks are classified as GOODS VEHICLES By the Transport Department - see below

☛Light Goods Vehicles - Goods vehicles of permitted gross vehicle weight not exceeding 5.5 tonnes.

☛Medium Goods Vehicles - Goods vehicles of permitted gross vehicle weight exceeding 5.5 tonnes but not exceeding 24 tonnes.

☛Heavy Goods Vehicles - Goods vehicles of permitted gross vehicle weight exceeding 24 tonnes but not exceeding 38 tonnes.

The major truck types you tend to see in urban areas are trucks carrying construction materials or waste, dump trucks, concrete mixers and all sizes of delivery trucks... outside of the urban areas it is container trucks and large trucks carrying construction materials.

The following brands of Trucks can be seen on the streets of Hong Kong and include:-

Beiben ✚ Bell ✚ CAMC ✚ CNHTC ✚ DAF ✚ Dennis ✚ Dong Feng ✚ FAW ✚ Fuso ✚ Foton ✚ Ford ✚ Hino ✚ Howo ✚ Hyundai ✚ Isuzu ✚ Iveco ✚ JAC ✚ Kato ✚ KIA ✚ Liebherr ✚ MAN ✚ Mercedes Benz ✚ Mitsubishi ✚ Nissan ✚ Renault ✚ Scania ✚ Shacman ✚ Sinotruk ✚ Suzuki ✚ Toyota ✚ UD ✚ Volvo ✚ Zoomlion

Hong Kong is a brand conscious place even for trucks (!) hence the popularity of the European brands, Scania and Man are very popular and even the older trucks look the business and they are utterly reliable.

Photographs in this collection have been produced by Heather Do and Kathleen Markham at the request of UC Berkeley Anthropology 136k class, for the purposes of exploring the cultural heritage sites of surrounding Cafe Vesuvio and City Lights Bookstore to embed the rich cultural heritage in the region. This collection documents the walking path from Vesuvio Cafe in the North Beach area, with the intent to gain more of a spacial understanding of different heritage sites located in San Francisco. This collection contains photos taken of the Bay Bridge in San Francisco from the corner of Taylor St and Vallejo St (37.79822°N 122.41334°W),and of Alcatraz Island from the corner of Green St and Jones St in North Beach (37.79870°N 122.41558°W),

Photographs in this collection were captured on Monday April 11, 2011, between 7:00 AM and 11:00 AM Pacific Time, under cloudy and overcast conditions. Photos were captured with a Canon XSI (CAM23). Lenses used were a 18-55mm and a 70-200mm telephoto A tripod was used for pictures from Alcatraz and Bay Bridge; Otherwise the stabilizer was off and auto focus was left on. The photos were developed in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3.

Description written by Kenneth Chiu and Kathleen Salmond, follows Alonso C. Addison’s proposed virtual heritage metadata format in his chapter "The Vanishing Virtual" in New Heritage: New Media and Cultural Heritage, edited by Kalay, et al., and published by Routledge in 2007.

The region now modernly known as North Beach was once infamous as the Barbary Coast District renown for prominence in prostitution and gambling which emerged from the destitute society of those bankrupt by the gold rush. Once an actual beach, it was later, the area developed into a residential and commercial region by the end of the 19th century, but the remnant influence of the aberrant society. During the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, the region was rebuilt largely through the use of immigrant labor consisting primarily of Italian and Chinese society; in fact during the great fires, many Italians were credited for helping to contain the fire by drenching their houses in red wine[1] . The region was known for the large number of immigrants and became the precursors to the Italian district and Chinatown. Vesuvio and City Lights Bookstore is embedded in this region in a semi liminal region between the two communities which emerged as a consequence of the development of this region; in fact it lies adjacent to Broadway St. infamous for the clubs consisting of nudity and inebriety. Although, our sites of interest came in the mid 1900’s the region largely represented a lack of affluence, prompting the collaboration among many society to be largely accepting of the diversity in which this community is composed. No wonder the Beatnik culture which emerged in the 1950’s in North Beach became largely accepted and although the movement was ephemeral, the society and notions of the past are largely preserved.

Rogers Centre, originally named SkyDome, is a multi-purpose stadium in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada situated just southwest of the CN Tower near the northern shore of Lake Ontario. Opened in 1989 on the former Railway Lands, it is home to the Toronto Blue Jays of Major League Baseball (MLB). Previously, the stadium served as home to the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League (CFL) and the Toronto Raptors of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Buffalo Bills of the National Football League (NFL), played an annual game at the stadium as part of the Bills Toronto Series from 2008 to 2013. While it is primarily a sports venue, it also hosts other large-scale events such as conventions, trade fairs, concerts, travelling carnivals, and monster truck shows.

The stadium was renamed "Rogers Centre" following the purchase of the stadium by Rogers Communications, which also bought the Toronto Blue Jays, in 2005. The venue was noted for being the first stadium to have a fully retractable motorized roof, as well as for the 348-room hotel attached to it, with 70 rooms overlooking the field. It is also the last North American major-league stadium built to accommodate both football and baseball. The stadium served as the site of both the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2015 Pan American Games. During the ceremonies, the site was referred to as the "Pan Am Dome" (officially as the "Pan Am Ceremonies Venue") instead of its official name.

SkyDome, called Rogers Centre since 2005, was designed by architect Rod Robbie and structural engineer Michael Allen and was constructed by the EllisDon Construction company of London, Ontario and the Dominion Bridge Company of Lachine, Quebec. The stadium's construction lasted about two and a half years, from October 1986 to May 1989. The approximate cost of construction was C$570 million ($966 million in 2016 dollars) which was paid for by the federal government, Ontario provincial government, the City of Toronto, and a large consortium of corporations.

The venue was the first major team sports stadium in North America with a functional, fully retractable roof (Montreal's Olympic Stadium also had a retractable roof, but due to operational issues, it was replaced with a permanent roof). The roof is composed of four panels and covers an area of 345,000 square feet (32,100 m2). The two middle panels slide laterally to stack over the north semi-circular panel, and then the south semi-circular panel rotates around the stadium and nests inside the stack. It takes 20 minutes for the roof to open or close.

The Renaissance Toronto Hotel is also located within Rogers Centre, with 70 rooms overlooking the field.

Avebury (/ˈeɪvbri/) is a Neolithic henge monument containing three stone circles, around the village of Avebury in Wiltshire, in southwest England. One of the best known prehistoric sites in Britain, it contains the largest stone circle in Europe. It is both a tourist attraction and a place of religious importance to contemporary Pagans.

Constructed around 2600 BCE, during the Neolithic, or 'New Stone Age', the monument comprises a large henge (a bank and a ditch) with a large outer stone circle and two separate smaller stone circles situated inside the centre of the monument. Its original purpose is unknown, although archaeologists believe that it was most likely used for some form of ritual or ceremony. The Avebury monument was a part of a larger prehistoric landscape containing several older monuments nearby, including West Kennet Long Barrow and Silbury Hill.

By the Iron Age, the site had been effectively abandoned, with some evidence of human activity on the site during the Roman occupation. During the Early Middle Ages, a village first began to be built around the monument, which eventually extended into it. In the Late Medieval and Early Modern periods, locals destroyed many of the standing stones around the henge, both for religious and practical reasons. The antiquarians John Aubrey and William Stukeley however took an interest in Avebury during the 17th century, and recorded much of the site before its destruction. Archaeological investigation followed in the 20th century, led primarily by Alexander Keiller, who oversaw a project of reconstructing much of the monument.

Avebury is owned and managed by the National Trust, a charitable organisation who keep it open to the public. It has been designated a Scheduled Ancient Monument, as well as a World Heritage Site, in the latter capacity being seen as a part of the wider prehistoric landscape of Wiltshire known as Stonehenge, Avebury and Associated Sites.

At grid reference SU10266996,[5] Avebury is respectively about 6 and 7 miles (10 and 11 km) from the modern towns of Marlborough and Calne. Avebury lies in an area of chalkland in the Upper Kennet Valley which forms the catchment for the River Kennet and supports local springs and seasonal watercourses. The monument stands slightly above the local landscape, sitting on a low chalk ridge 160 m (520 ft) above sea level; to the east are the Marlborough Downs, an area of lowland hills. The site lies at the centre of a collection of Neolithic and early Bronze Age monuments and was inscribed as a World Heritage Site in a co-listing with the monuments at Stonehenge, 17 miles (27 km) to the south, in 1986. It is now listed as part of the Stonehenge, Avebury and Associated Sites World Heritage Site.[2] The monuments are preserved as part of a Neolithic and Bronze Age landscape for the information they provide regarding prehistoric people's relationship with the landscape.[6]

Radiocarbon dating and analysis of pollen in buried soils have shown that the environment of lowland Britain changed around 4,250–4,000 BCE. The change to a grassland environment from damp, heavy soils and expanses of dense forest was mostly brought about by farmers, probably through the use of slash and burn techniques. Environmental factors may also have made a contribution. Pollen is poorly preserved in the chalky soils found around Avebury, so the best evidence for the state of local environment at any time in the past comes from the study of the deposition of snail shells. Different species of snail live in specific habitats, so the presence of a certain species indicates what the area was like at a particular point in time.[7] The available evidence suggests that in the early Neolithic, Avebury and the surrounding hills were covered in dense oak woodland, and as the Neolithic progressed, the woodland around Avebury and the nearby monuments receded and was replaced by grassland.

Background

The history of the site before the construction of the henge is uncertain, because little datable evidence has emerged from modern archaeological excavations.[9] Evidence of activity in the region before the 4th millennium BCE is limited, suggesting that there was little human occupation.

Mesolithic

What is now termed the Mesolithic period in Britain lasted from circa 11,600 to 7800 BP, at a time when the island was heavily forested and when there was still a land mass, called Doggerland, which connected Britain to continental Europe.[10] During this era, those humans living in Britain were hunter-gatherers, often moving around the landscape in small familial or tribal groups in search of food and other resources. Archaeologists have unearthed evidence that there were some of these hunter-gatherers active in the vicinity of Avebury during the Late Mesolithic, with stray finds of flint tools, dated between 7,000 and 4,000 BCE, having been found in the area.[11] The most notable of these discoveries is a densely scattered collection of worked flints found 300 m (980 ft) to the west of Avebury, which has led archaeologists to believe that that particular spot was a flint working site occupied over a period of several weeks by a group of nomadic hunter-gatherers who had set up camp there.[12]

The archaeologists Mark Gillings and Joshua Pollard suggested the possibility that Avebury first gained some sort of ceremonial significance during the Late Mesolithic period. As evidence, they highlighted the existence of a posthole near to the monument's southern entrance that would have once supported a large wooden post. Although this posthole was never dated when it was excavated in the early 20th century, and so cannot definitely be ascribed to the Mesolithic, Gillings and Pollard noted that its positioning had no relation to the rest of the henge, and that it may therefore have been erected centuries or even millennia before the henge was actually built.[13] They compared this with similar wooden posts that had been erected in southern Britain during the Mesolithic at Stonehenge and Hambledon Hill, both of which were sites that like Avebury saw the construction of large monuments in the Neolithic.[14]

Early Neolithic

The two monuments of West Kennet Long Barrow and Silbury Hill were constructed in the nearby vicinity of Avebury several centuries before the henge was built.

In the 4th millennium BCE, around the start of the Neolithic period in Britain, British society underwent radical changes. These coincided with the introduction to the island of domesticated species of animals and plants, as well as a changing material culture that included pottery. These developments allowed hunter-gatherers to settle down and produce their own food. As agriculture spread, people cleared land. At the same time, they also erected the first monuments to be seen in the local landscape, an activity interpreted as evidence of a change in the way people viewed their place in the world.[13]

Based on anthropological studies of recent and contemporary societies, Gillings and Pollard suggest that forests, clearings, and stones were important in Neolithic culture, not only as resources but as symbols; the site of Avebury occupied a convergence of these three elements.[15] Neolithic activity at Avebury is evidenced by flint, animal bones, and pottery such as Peterborough ware dating from the early 4th and 3rd millennia BCE. Five distinct areas of Neolithic activity have been identified within 500 m (1,600 ft) of Avebury; they include a scatter of flints along the line of the West Kennet Avenue – an avenue that connects Avebury with the Neolithic site of The Sanctuary. Pollard suggests that areas of activity in the Neolithic became important markers in the landscape.[16]

Late Neolithic

During the Late Neolithic, British society underwent another series of major changes. Between 3500 and 3300 BCE, these prehistoric Britons ceased their continual expansion and cultivation of wilderness and instead focused on settling and farming the most agriculturally productive areas of the island: Orkney, eastern Scotland, Anglesey, the upper Thames, Wessex, Essex, Yorkshire and the river valleys of the Wash.[18]

Late Neolithic Britons also appeared to have changed their religious beliefs, ceasing to construct the large chambered tombs that are widely thought by archaeologists to have been connected with ancestor veneration. Instead, they began the construction of large wooden or stone circles, with many hundreds being built across Britain and Ireland over a period of a thousand years.[19]

Electronic analog synth 45rpm that was conceived for an educational purpose (the translation of the title is "Sounds lines colors, music for plastic expression").

This record gives 1981 as the date of recording but it could have been recorded 6 or 7 years earlier.

No indication concerning who were the musicians involved but the musical conception is credited to the "Studio Ganaro".

This studio wich was near Versailles in the Parisian suburb, was the playground of Roger Roger, Nino Nardini and Eddie Warner. Nearly all the Creasound LPs and most of the IM ones were recorded there. So i'm not quite sure that one of the three names above is behind this recording, at least it sounds a lot like some of their Library records.
