Chiffchaff - Phylloscopus collybita
The common chiffchaff (Phylloscopus collybita), or simply the chiffchaff, is a common and widespread leaf warbler which breeds in open woodlands throughout northern and temperate Europe and Asia.
It is a migratory passerine which winters in southern and western Europe, southern Asia and north Africa. Greenish-brown above and off-white below, it is named onomatopoeically for its simple chiff-chaff song. It has a number of subspecies, some of which are now treated as full species.
This warbler gets its name from its simple distinctive song, a repetitive cheerful chiff-chaff. This song is one of the first avian signs that spring has returned. Its call is a hweet, less disyllabic than the hooeet of the willow warbler or hu-it of the western Bonelli's warbler.
The common chiffchaff breeds across Europe and Asia east to eastern Siberia and north to about 70°N, with isolated populations in northwest Africa, northern and western Turkey and northwestern Iran. It is migratory, but it is one of the first passerine birds to return to its breeding areas in the spring and among the last to leave in late autumn. When breeding, it is a bird of open woodlands with some taller trees and ground cover for nesting purposes. These trees are typically at least 5 metres (16 ft) high, with undergrowth that is an open, poor to medium mix of grasses, bracken, nettles or similar plants. Its breeding habitat is quite specific, and even near relatives do not share it; for example, the willow warbler (P. trochilus) prefers younger trees, while the wood warbler (P. sibilatrix) prefers less undergrowth. In winter, the common chiffchaff uses a wider range of habitats including scrub, and is not so dependent on trees. It is often found near water, unlike the willow warbler which tolerates drier habitats. There is an increasing tendency to winter in western Europe well north of the traditional areas, especially in coastal southern England and the mild urban microclimate of London. These overwintering common chiffchaffs include some visitors of the eastern subspecies abietinus and tristis, so they are certainly not all birds which have bred locally, although some undoubtedly are.

This beautiful warbler flits about very actively in the trees, usually holding its wings and tail partly spread, as if to show off their patches of color. At times it feeds more like a flycatcher than a typical warbler, hovering among the foliage and often flying out to grab insects in mid-air.

Finn went to the very polished Seven Emporium sim for 50L Friday earlier, to get the 'Full Lubrication Service' sign (shush!), and walked around and saw this little broken boat on the shore with its big old rusty chain, and took a quick pic ...

You promised the world and I fell for it
I put you first and you adored it
You set fires to my forest
And you let it burn
Sang off key in my chorus
Cause it wasn’t yours
I saw the signs and I ignored it
Rose colored glasses all distorted
You set fire to my purpose
And I let it burn
You got off on the hurtin’
When it wasn’t yours
We’d always go into it blindly
I needed to lose you to find me
This dancing was killing me softly
I needed to hate you to love me
This excavator had a primary purpose as an earth mover, yet in this snow covered image - it looks like it could have been contracted out to dig through the freshly fallen snow.
Looks can be deceiving.
**Captured less than two weeks ago. The snow has since then melted and Spring appears to have arrived.
Excavators are heavy construction equipment consisting of a boom, dipper, bucket and cab on a rotating platform known as the "house". The house sits atop an undercarriage with tracks or wheels. They are a natural progression from the steam shovels and often mistakenly called power shovels. All movement and functions of a hydraulic excavator are accomplished through the use of hydraulic fluid, with hydraulic cylinders and hydraulic motors. Due to the linear actuation of hydraulic cylinders, their mode of operation is fundamentally different from cable-operated excavators which use winches and steel ropes to accomplish the movements.

Due to my health condition, I am unable to hold or stabilize a camera for extended periods of time. Additionally, using a tripod has never been enjoyable for me, as it would cause pain when trying to position it correctly and constantly bending over to check the viewfinder. Consequently, I have chosen to explore digital AI artwork as an alternative. I understand that this may not be everyone's cup of tea, as it diverges from traditional photography. However, I have always granted myself the freedom to exercise artistic license and pursue whatever brings me joy. Currently, digital AI artwork fulfills that purpose, at least for the time being.

When that day came, I didn’t allow other people to dictate how I should feel or act. I learned there was no shame in imperfection because history had shown being different had the power to change perspectives and eventually the world. This is when I realized that flaws had responsibility. This was the day that I learned I was truly BLESSED.”

The Blisterhead or Groninger Blisterhead is a Dutch breed of dual-purpose cattle. for blister head. Its main breeding area is in the province of Groningen.
White-headed cattle in Holland have been mentioned as early as the fourteenth century Cattle showing some similarity to the modern Blaarkop appear in an Adoration by Pieter Aertsen dating from about 1560, and in a seventeenth-century From the nineteenth century, there are also Blisterheads in the Utrecht and Leiden regions.
Bulls of this type were among the cattle shipped to the Cape of Good Hope by Willem Adriaan van der Stel during his time as governor of the Cape Colony (1699–1707).
The Blisterhead founding, a non-profit foundation for the development and conservation of the Blisterhead, was established in 2002.
The Blisterhead breed is sturdily built with matching muscles, a horned head, and strong legs. Both red (60% of the population) and black (40%) Blisterheads exist. The body is solid red or black, while the head is white with a red or black ring (blister) around the eyes; the tail has a white tip.
Bulls are 1.45 to 1.50 metres (4 ft 9 in to 4 ft 11 in) high and weigh 800 kilograms (1,800 lb). Cows are 1.35 to 1.40 metres (4 ft 5 in to 4 ft 7 in) high and weigh 600 kilograms (1,300 lb).

"What to ourselves in passion we propose,
The passion ending, doth the purpose lose.
The violence of either grief or joy
Their own enactures with themselves destroy:
Where joy most revels, grief doth most lament;
Grief joys, joy grieves, on slender accident.
This world is not for aye, not 'tis not strange
That even our loves should with our fortunes change;
For 'tis a question left us yet to prove,
Whether love lead fortune, or else fortune love.
The great man down, you mark his favorite flies;
The poor advanc'd makes friends of enemies.
And hitherto doth love on fortune tend;
For who not needs shall never lack a friend,
And who in want a hollow friend doth try,
Directly seasons him his enemy.
But, orderly to end where I begun,
Our wills and fates do so contrary run
That our devices still are overthrown;
Our thoughts are ours, their ends none of our own"

Soufflé au fromage. Cheese Soufflé
1/3 cup butter
4 tablespoons all purpose flour
1 ½ cups milk
5 large eggs, separated
1/2 cup (packed) grated Gruyère cheese
1/2 teaspoon salt
Pinch of ground nutmeg
Pinch of cayenne pepper
1. Position rack in lower third of oven and preheat to 350F.
Butter 2 quart soufflé dish.
2. Then, make a sauce béchamel: melt butter in heavy large saucepan over medium heat. Add flour and whisk until mixture is well blended (do not allow mixture to brown). Pour in warm milk, whisking until smooth. Cook, whisking constantly until very thick, 2 to 3 minutes. Remove from heat; add cheese and stir until incorporated. Whisk in seasoning.
Add egg yolks 1 at a time, whisking to blend after each addition. Scrape soufflé base into large bowl. Cool to lukewarm.
(This can be made 2 hours ahead. Cover and let stand at room temperature.)
3. Using electric mixer, beat egg whites in another large bowl until stiff but not dry. Fold 1/4 of whites into soufflé base to lighten. Fold in remaining whites.
Transfer batter to prepared dish.
4. Place dish in oven. Bake until soufflé is puffed and golden brown on top and center moves only slightly when dish is shaken gently, about 35 minutes (do not open oven door during first 20 minutes). Serve immediately.

This small church,located just south of Oakville,IA.,lost its purpose and its soul many years ago.In the spring it is nearly totally buried by foliage,only in the winter does its plight become apparent.Many years ago,the farmer who owns the land put a set of barn doors in the rear of the empty church for machinery storage.It was used for that purpose until the floor caved in-an old wagon still sets inside with its back axles buried beneath the church floor.I'm not making any judgements here,but I think the almighty might not take too kindly to see one of his houses used this way. Nonetheless,this is one of the most photogenic abandonments an explorer will ever come across-no matter how sad it may seem....

Red Knots are plump, neatly proportioned sandpipers that in summer sport brilliant terracotta-orange underparts and intricate gold, buff, rufous, and black upperparts. This cosmopolitan species occurs on all continents except Antarctica and migrates exceptionally long distances, from High Arctic nesting areas to wintering spots in southern South America, Africa, and Australia. Red Knots from eastern North America have declined sharply in recent decades owing in part to unsustainable harvest of horseshoe crab eggs, and they have become a flagship species for shorebird conservation in the twenty-first century.

The purpose of my drive yesterday was to locate the Northfield Tunnel of the defunct New York Ontario and Western Railroad. I believe when I took the picture I was practically above the portal. Perhaps just past this ridge. But my wounded feet and legs and my arthritic knees ruled out any bushwhacking. In looking for the tunnel I spotted this 1930's era car bodies rusting away.

The marbachsee was originally built between 1978 and 1982 by the Mümling Water Association, which operates the reservoir, for flood control purposes, but has officially also served as a recreational area since 1986.
The primary reason for building the Marbach Reservoir was flood protection for the towns and villages downstream. Because the Marbach stream has a relatively large catchment area, the Mümling's discharge capacity could easily be exceeded after periods of rain or snowmelt. Since the dam's completion, the Marbach's flow into the Mümling can be controlled.
A small hydroelectric power plant with a capacity of 80 kW was attached to the Marbach Reservoir. At full capacity, the Marbach Reservoir is the largest body of still water in the Odenwald region.
Another reason for constructing the Marbach Reservoir was its use for recreation and leisure. Activities possible there include swimming, boating, windsurfing, sailing, fishing, and hiking.
The Marbach Reservoir is divided into three sections from west to east:
"Bird sanctuary" with a nature reserve island; officially not a bird or nature reserve
Bathing area with a beach, sunbathing lawn, and bathing islands
Surfing and sailing area for boats with a sail area of up to 3.5 m².

My wife Fran and I, recently spent 9 days in Colorado, primarily photographing the deer rut. The first 2 days there it snowed 16 inches. It was a ton of fun and a wonderful experience. The Nazca Lines are a group of geoglyphs made in the soil of the Nazca Desert in southern Peru. They were created between 500 BC and 500 AD by people making depressions or shallow incisions in the desert floor, removing pebbles and leaving different-colored dirt exposed. In the years leading up to 2020, between 80 and 100 new figures had been found with the use of drones, and archaeologists believe that there are more to be found.
Most lines run straight across the landscape, but there are also figurative designs of animals and plants. The combined length of all the lines is more than 1,300 km, and the group covers an area of about 50 km2.
Some of the Nazca lines form shapes that are best seen from the air (at around 500 m, although they are also visible from the surrounding foothills and other high places. The shapes are usually made from one continuous line. The largest ones are about 370 m long.
Because of its isolation and the dry, windless, stable climate of the plateau, the lines have mostly been preserved naturally. Extremely rare changes in weather may temporarily alter the general designs. As of 2012, the lines are said to have been deteriorating because of an influx of squatters inhabiting the lands.
The figures vary in complexity. Hundreds are simple lines and geometric shapes; more than 70 are zoomorphic designs, including a hummingbird, arachnid, fish, condor, heron, monkey, lizard, dog, cat, and a human. Other shapes include trees and flowers. Scholars differ in interpreting the purpose of the designs, but in general, they ascribe religious significance to them. They were designated in 1994 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
One of the main and most devoted scholar to Nazca lines conservation was Maria Reiche. She is known for her research into the Nazca Lines, which she first saw in 1941. Known as the "Lady of the Lines", Reiche made the documentation, preservation and public dissemination of the Nazca Lines her life's work.
