HMS Chiddingfold is a Hunt-class mine countermeasures vessel of Britain's Royal Navy. She was launched in October 1983 by her sponsor, Lady Anne Kennon, and formally entered the service of the Royal Navy in October 1984. Chiddingfold is a minehunter, and her purpose is to find and destroy mines, not only in a time of war but also in peacetime. There are about a quarter of a million mines still active from the Second World War alone and they pose a major threat to both military and civilian ships. Chiddingfold is able to enter some types of minefields without magnetic mines detonating because she is made of glass-reinforced plastic, and all fixtures within the ship are made of non-ferrous metals, keeping the ship's magnetic signature to the bare minimum.
In January 2012, Chiddingfold began a year-long mid-life upgrade project, including the replacement of her engines, gearboxes, propellers and an upgraded thruster system; she was the first vessel of her class to undergo the refurbishment.
The Hunt class is a class of thirteen mine countermeasure vessels of the Royal Navy. As built, they combined the separate roles of the traditional minesweeper and that of the active minehunter in one hull, but later modifications saw the removal of mine-sweeping equipment. They have a secondary role as offshore patrol vessels.
Upon introduction in the early 1980s they were the largest warships ever built out of glass-reinforced plastic[5] and were the last in operation to use the Napier Deltic diesel engine. All were built by Vosper Thornycroft in Woolston except Cottesmore and Middleton, which were built by Yarrow Shipbuilders Limited on the River Clyde. Quorn was the last ship of the class launched.
Following the sale of Bicester and Berkeley to the Greek Navy, the sale of Cottesmore and Dulverton to the Lithuanian Navy and the decommissioning of Brecon, a contract to re-engine the remaining eight vessels was signed by BAE Systems in 2008, whereby the existing 30-year old Napier Deltic 9-59K power units were replaced by Caterpillar CAT C32 engines, together with new gearboxes, bow thrusters, propellers and control systems, in a six-year refurbishment programme that was completed in 2018.
The capabilities of the remaining eight vessels of the Hunt class have been significantly enhanced by the installation of Sonar Type 2193 and the NAUTIS 3 command system. The performance of Sonar 2193 exceeds that of any other mine hunting sonar in service in the world today and is capable of detecting and classifying an object the size of a football at a distance of up to 1,000 metres (1,100 yd). In late 2007 Chiddingfold used the Seafox drone, the Royal Navy's mine disposal system, during Exercise Neptune Warrior off Scotland. Seafox is described by the MOD as a "state of the art fire and forget system, capable of destroying mines in depths of up to 300 metres".
The 2021 defence white paper announced that all the Hunt-class vessels would be retired from Royal Navy service in the 2020s and replaced by automated systems. It was subsequently indicated that the withdrawal would occur in the 2029 to 2031 period.
In 2023, the navy began to take delivery of six REMUS 300 small autonomous underwater vehicles (SAUVs), produced by Huntington Ingalls Industries. The system is being acquired to enhance the capabilities of the Hunt-class ships and has a reported operating depth of 300 meters with an endurance time of up to 20 hours.
All 13 ships of this class re-used names from the World War II Hunt-class destroyer. Four of the names had also been used for World War I Hunt-class minesweepers: these were HMS Bicester, Cattistock, Cottesmore and Quorn. HMS Atherstone had been a paddlewheel minesweeper in 1916, and Brocklesby was a coaster taken up from trade in 1916.

UN Women is supporting five Multi-Purpose Women’s Centres (MPWCs) in the camps and three in host community locations in Cox’s Bazar with funding from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, and the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh. Operated by Women’s Rights Organizations (WROs), the MPWCs provide a safe space for women and girls to access multi-sectoral services and support by different providers, pursuing an integrated service model built on collaboration and recognition of the expertise and resources of different actors while recognizing the unique role of WROs in spearheading approaches which nurture the agency, leadership and resilience of women and girls, including female-headed households, elderly women, women and girls with disabilities, and adolescent girls.
MPWC services encompass psychosocial support, GBV case management and referrals, legal awareness sessions and legal aid (UNHCR, from May 2025), health and hygiene services, sexual and reproductive health services (SRHR) depending on availability (UNFPA monitoring and technical support), Myanmar curriculum education for girls and young women who have dropped out of school (UNICEF), accelerated adult learning (AAL), livelihoods skills training, and life-skills and leadership development. MPWCs provide space for women and adolescent girls to come together, fostering social connections and mental health. To strengthen self-reliance and self-care practices, some MPWCs offer production spaces and shop corners for income generation activities, others implement refugee-led healing programme to support trauma recovery and reduce stress. During emergencies such as cyclones and fires, MPWCs function as shelters for women and children, with MPWC volunteers entrusted to run their operations.
The WROs operating the MPWCs (Action Aid Bangladesh, JNUS, and RWWS) engage closely with camp management officials and humanitarian actors to ensure the concerns of women are addressed and that referrals are made to specialized services. MPWC volunteers play a vital role in conducting community outreach and awareness raising activities, including to secure support from male gatekeepers and family members for the participation of women and girls in MPWC activities and for the goals of women’s and girls’ empowerment and gender equality.

General Purpose Bombs, 2000lbs, 1000lbs, 500lbs and 250lbs
A general-purpose bomb is an air-dropped bomb intended as a compromise between blast damage, penetration, and fragmentation in explosive effect. They are designed to be effective against enemy troops, vehicles, and buildings.
General-purpose (GP) bombs use a thick-walled metal casing with explosive filler comprising about 30% to 40% of the bomb's total weight. The GP bomb is a common weapon of fighter bomber and attack aircraft because it is useful for a variety of tactical applications and relatively cheap.
General-purpose bombs are often identified by their weight (e.g., 500 lb or 250 lb). In many cases this is strictly a nominal weight (the counterpart to the caliber of a firearm), and the actual weight of each individual weapon may vary depending on its retardation, fusing, carriage, and guidance systems.
