puppet theater from Bend the Rules Sewing. The stretchy velour curtains were a little bit of a pain to work with but I wanted theatrical-looking curtains.
I need to do a much better job of just remembering and syncing my notes with my pics (damn, gotta do the SHR again!)
Stupidly I did not sync the camera date up, so while it gave me date and time. it was a a few days off . . .
Some of the puppets that were for sale. I've always found dangling puppets a little disturbing when they are just put up on a hook--much better to see them enlivened by a puppeteer, or arranged in some way so they don't look like they are fresh off the gibbet.

From the Indian Epic Ramayana, Hanuman, the very cheeky monkey god wins the love of the very beautiful mermaid Supamatcha. Together they produce a son who looks exactly like his father, but has a tail just like his mother.
Performed by members of the Joe Louis Puppet Theatre.

Skippy O'Day lives in a silver suitcase in the basement of Margaret's parents' place. He doesn't get many visitors, so he was overjoyed when I had him sit for a portrait session.
Margaret really hates him. I can't imagine why...
This picture is from a session I did at CopyCamp on using puppets as a role playing aid. I wanted to mix a video but we got a little crazy and didn't make a whole lot of sence. So I grabbed stills from the video.

Taiwan's glove puppet show attracts many local people in Putian, home of Mazu, Fujian Province of southeast China.
I wanted to see a traditional shadow puppet show, but I could only find this place, China Puppet Theater, in Beijing. It features rod puppets, costume stage shows, and movies, not in English. www.puppetchina.com
Very reminiscent of shadow puppets from South East Asia, but not so intricate in design. Shows are often very political.
