As an artist I work primarily to transform found and recycled objects into puppets and small theatre like settings that recall ancient mythology and folktales. The Janus headed puppet takes its concept from classical mythology and was created for a stop motion film and as a device to frame shots through its open box torso. The puppet is made from many materials such as found turtle bones, an old watch case, a spoon, almond shells and butterfly wings encased in mica. Papier-mache pulp forms the dual faces and copper wire binds the varied parts into cohesive and bendable limbs.

I know, I know, it's a character from Baby Einsteins, but...it's a dolphin! How could I refuse? ^^
Another yard sale find.

See my blog at www.annypurls.blogspot.com for details on how you can get one too ;0)
I was originally planning on some bright turquoise buttons but in the end thought I should let the fabric be centre of attention.
A handsome young puppet perches on Chandler Swain's counter in General Fine Craft, Art & Design in Almonte, Lanark County, Ontario.
The puppet had several moving arms, hinged in two places each and used springs for tension. The front arm also had a telescopic 'grabber'.
Well not really . One of my favourite photos from Oxford, an image of puppets being sold in a wayside puppet cart. Ideally the word used for the people peering at me through the puppets would be puppet sellers or vendors, but I guess one can’t be a puppet vendor without being a puppeteer of some sort. Have a great week all!
