Female Harbor Seals depend on ice chunks from tidwater glaciers in Southeast Alaska to have their pups between May and July. This seal looked like she was in labor as our Cruise ship passed by the Dawes Glacier in Southeast Alaska.
Quite late in the haul out, the tide was beginning to go out, a large seal lumbered out onto the rocks. I'd been watching the dry female above and right of the newcomer because she looked like she was about to pop a pup, but had seen no sign of restlessness.
This newcomer kept turning from side to side and I got that feeling that birth was imminent for this female!

This older pup was all alone in a puddle & he just wanted us to watch him play! He kept rolling and splashing and then came up looking very pleased with himself :)

People United for Pets is an all volunteer, 501(c)(3) registered non-profit organization specializing in small and toy breed dog rescue. We are located in Western Washington State.
Mission Statement
Countless dogs are without homes and in need of assistance. These are dogs who would make wonderful and faithful companions if only they could connect with the right person or family. We have made it our mission to help them do this. At the same time we hope to enrich the lives of those who adopt them.
A new batch of puppies have been born, these are part pit/ part boxer and they are all extremely adorable. The red and white little girl is my favorite.

Not my dog, well she was mine for a little while, but she was evil puppy, lol. Being a puppy mill dog, I think she ended up with some sort of mental problem from poor and or in-breeding. She would go from sweet to evil in the blink of an eye.
Got her a new home with a family who could handle her (evil puppies are not good for a first time dog owner!), and I always liked this pic of her. Even if she was evil ;-) Wherever she is now with her family, she is about 2 years old, and hopefully over her problems.

Ever since the webkinz invasion, pup has ben really quiet and moody...when they started borrowing his sunglasses and getting in front of the camera.....well, things went for bad to worse. I think it might be time for an intervention before someone becomes the victim of Stufficide

Seal Pup Kisses — Seriously...how ridiculously cute is this? We saw this photo of Weddell seals, taken by our own William Link, and just couldn't hold back from sharing it with you!
The Weddell seal population of Erebus Bay, Antarctica has been extensively studied for over 40 years; the study is one of the longest running studies of a long-lived mammal. Because of its isolation, this population is undisturbed by human activities. The Weddell seal population is healthy and stable, and thus gives a good example for studies of animal population dynamics. In recent years USGS scientists William Link and James Nichols have collaborated with Jay Rotella of Montana State University, conducting mathematical modeling to address fundamental demographic and ecological questions including marking and weighing newborn seal pups.
