Puddling is when a butterfly is drinking from a muddy area. They are taking in both water and minerals. Males do it more than females because the intake of salts and other minerals helps with production of pheromones & sperm. The males pass along the sodium & nutrients to the females as a nuptial gift when mating. And it increases the survival rate of the eggs.

The only remotely original shot I've taken of the London Eye. It was just a dirty brown puddle. A bit of contrast adjustment made for one of my favourite shots. 1.3 sec exposure.
Whichever way you look at it, the stripped down QJ without it's smoke deflectors was quite a mean looking machine. This one was whiling away the afternoon looking at it's reflection in a murky puddle on the northern reaches of the Pingdingshan system in Henan Province, central China. January 2006. © David Hill.
I walked too close to the puddle, Biscuit was compelled to have a little play in it ... he's way too cute and self-entertaining, can't help but smile even as I groan at the prospect of his wet muddy underbelly ... probably no worse than he already was in this weather ... :-)
I saw this lovely big puddle in fact it looks a lot bigger here then it really was, in fact it was only about 12f eet wide and as i walked away i turned and look back and thought it would make a good reflection but when i walked up to it the reflection was gone so i help my camera phone down on the floor almost touching the water to get the reflection in and it made it look massive. After a short sharp arctic freeze, I stumbled on the remains of a plastic alien queen, lying in a thawing water tomb. Her eyes were hollow, but she grinned at me in a knowing sort of way :-)
Next round of #StillFlickring! Actually I didn't take this image this week as it was simply no time for side-projects but i remembered this image from some months ago that just fits so perfect.
This is the image I meant to recreate.
.
Please follow #StillFlickring to what the others created 😊
Entire week marathon finished, whew! I almost didn't get to finish these! Skirts for Puddle! They should fit most 1:6 dolls since they are elastic. Now I need to get everything packed and ready for tomorrow!
A great sky this evening and with a lot of rain throughout the day there were many puddles to take some images with.
As soon as the wicked witch touched the ruby red shoes and tried to take them from Dorothy......it started......
...she started melting....from the bottoms of her feet...rising up....bit by bit....and
ever so slowly melting........
....until there was nothing left but the magical ruby shoes, and a puddle of the wicked witch's hat and her puffy ink black skirt......
and all the while........her crow looked on.........
I read today that there is a man in his 70s who confessed to stealing Dorothy's ruby shoes because he thought the bows had real rubies.
When he brought them to a pawn shop, they told him they were just crystals. He was deeply disappointed.
Seems like the shoes continue to work their magic.
