Between 1861 and 1986, trains of 17-19 'compartment boats known as 'Tom Puddings' were pulled by tugs from the Yorkshire coal-mines to these hydraulic hoists on Goole Docks. The coal could then be tipped directly into sea-going ships.

I'm wearing my Xmas pudding cap today on my head!

Everyone loves pudding as stated by Jumbie the holographic artist. It was he (Jumbie) that brought the Pudding Truck to the FIrst Thursday Art Walk and had them park in front of his studio!

I made my first Mosaic book last week!

Mosaic is an app where you pick 20 photos on your phone, organize them and then order how ever many copies of the little 7x7 books you want. It's super easy and lots of fun. The print quality is also nice. I wanted to use photos I'd taken with a camera so I just copied them over to my phone to put it together. Easy-peasy!!

there's a kind of pudding in each one....

This is a South African recipe, originating from the Dutch. Deceptively simple, unbelievably divine.

My beautician asked me to make this for her.

Here's the rec:

Malva Pudding

300ml cake flour

125ml milk

45ml smooth apricot jam

30g butter

100ml sugar

5ml bicarbonate of soda

1 egg

1ml salt

20ml white vinegar

Sauce

375ml fresh cream

200ml sugar

125g butter

1ml salt

Preheat oven 180c.

Mix all the sauce ing. tog. bring to boil and simmer, stirring all the time for 2 mins.

Cream butter and sugar tog.until light and creamy.

Add egg and beat till light and fluffy.

Beat in jam.

Dissolve the bicarb. in the milk.

Sift the flour, and salt tog.and add to the mixture alternately with the milk.

Lastly add the the vinegar, mix it in well.

Spoon the mix. into a greased 2 litre ovenproof dish with a lid.

Pour over 1/2 the sauce ,cover and bake for 20 -30 mins.

Now pour in the balance of the sauce and bake uncovered for about 10-15mins or until the centre of the pudding is cooked but the sauce must bubble around the sides.

Serve the pudding hot.

It freezes very well after it's baked and cool.

Pop in the micro. before serving.

I serve this with double thick cream or ice-cream.

For chocolate malva pudding reduce the flour to 250ml and add 50ml cocoa.

For the sauce add 50ml cocoa to the rest of ing.

Our Daily Challenge ... festive food.

My pudding recipe was passed down from my husband's Mother. It's really easy and cheap. I suspect it was her Mother's recipe because it reflects the austerity of the war years. It is, however, really delicious and I make a couple each Christmas. One gets consumed almost straight away but one is kept for Christmas Day lunch. Wonderful warmed a little and served with cold custard and dollop of cream.

The most delicious of all British desserts - pardon me, puddings :)

On a totally different note, do you remember last year's Food Blog Awards? Well, you were good to me, really nice actually, since amongst many talented food blogs, La Tartine Gourmande was honored to receive the Best Food Blog Photography Award. Guess what, the nominations are open for the Food Blog Awards 2007. So if you are interested, go and check the rules. You have until Wednesday Dec 5th to nominate your favorite food blogs. I don't know about you, but I really find difficult to select only one for each category.

I have developed a sweet tooth over the past couple of years. Family and friends wonder at what can be called a U-turn from my lifelong aversion to sweets.

Another Pudding Food Truck, as this is the third I have documented over the last two months, each with their own color scheme! Must be good $$ in the pudding business!
