All traffic is now on the new bridge. Northbound Highway 43 traffic is going across frame from right to left on the northbound bridge on and off ramps; in May it will join the southbound traffic (hidden from view) going under this overpass/intersection before the bridge is totally complete around Thanksgiving 2016. The old detour bridge - faintly visible in the upper left corner - is being removed during March and April. NB43886-90,94-98
Despite a set back of 1-2 months due to out-of-spec bolts progress on the bridge is being made (see photo/links in first comment below), and you can now ride on the first half of the new multi-use path that will eventually run between the bridge and Willamette Park along the trolley track alignment. When the path and bridge are open in early 2016 they, together with the existing bike paths on both sides of the river, will make for a wonderful loop ride between the Sellwood and Tilikum Crossing bridges. Repeating this photo has been on my to shoot list since the bridge opened late last Summer; see first comment below for earlier views from this same location. With less than two months to go until completion the new Sellwood bridge has come a long way and this morning was one of the first without the old bridge, work piers and pilings, or any cranes obstructing the view. See notes for items still in progress. Used The Photographer's Ephemeris to check that first light would be on this side of the bridge. NB50082-84

From last weeks fun PDXNightowls photowalk. Jefferson Smart Park, Portland, Oregon NB47483-91
Although the moon continued to rise and move southward, by moving closer to or farther from the bridge it was possible to place the moon pretty much anywhere you might want it relative to the deck of the bridge. The downside is the closer to the bridge you are the smaller the moon looks relative to it; e.g. compare the diameter of the moon relative to the width of one of the tower plyons in the photo above with the earlier photo taken from farther away in first comment below.
