Now that the old bridge, work piers and pilings, and cranes are almost completely gone a clear view of the Portland skyline from the shoreline of Powers Marine Park is again visible under the Sellwood Bridge; fun to contrast with this beautiful 2010 photo by Jason Harris with the old bridge. Used The Photographer's Ephemeris to confirm that there'd be a nice sidelight on the city at sunrise and the bridge shortly after. NB50041
Recent low river tides reveal things not otherwise seen; as in this remnant of the Spokane Street Ferry crossing in the foreground, which crossed to SE Spokane St (center left edge above). Across the top of the photo is the present green Sellwood Bridge which was moved north onto temporary supports and acts as a detour bridge while the new bridge - the three arches with deck behind it - are being built and which is scheduled to open to traffic in February or March 2016. Dock, East Bank Esplanade, Portland, OR A slightly pre-sunset 5:42PM shot blended with 9:20PM nightshot using a gradient mask; although the two shots don't line up perfectly (taken from slightly different locations) it doesn't change the emotional feeling of the result, just adds to the sense that this is a multiple exposure. An early morning check of the All Classical Portland Tili-cam showed fog coming in, while at the same time in Rich Morgan's Sellwood Bridge webcam the bridge was completely invisible behind the even thicker fog there, while various ODOT webcams showed little or no fog further down stream… So I headed down to the Tilikum Crossing to see what I might catch between night and sunrise. From the floating dock by the OMSI submarine - from where this photo was taken - you could just barely see the very brightest lights across the river barely peeking through the fog, the CLSB and MAX station were completely hidden by the fog.
