Annual protest in Hebron for the reopening of Shuhada Street (aparthied street). Shuhada Street lies at the centre of the ancient city of Hebron. For many years it was a busy shopping precinct, full of life. Today it is deserted. When the radical Israeli settler Baruch Goldstein shot dead 29 Palestinian worshippers at Hebron's Ibrahimi mosque in 1994, the Israeli army feared reprisals against three nearby Israeli settlements. It closed off the street to Palestinian vehicles and later Shuhada Street was blocked even for most Palestinian pedestrians.Most of the people who once lived here have left their homes. All the shops have closed, and Palestinians living in the area have to climb over roofs to reach their neighbours. In addition, they suffer violence and harrassment by settlers and soldiers, who often neglect to intervene to protect them from settler violence.

The event landed on the day Michigan's medical marijuana law went into effect. The law was passed by voters with 63 percent of the vote last November, and Michigan Department of Community Health offices will be open to accept applications. Medical marijuana patients will be able to go through a registration process and obtain a state ID card.

“The lead-up to Saturday’s protests against the TPPA shows the commitment of people across the country to send a message that the government can’t ignore”, said ItsOurFuture spokesperson Edward Miller.
A video shows young activists publicising Saturday’s nationwide protests with footage from Auckland, Wellington, Dunedin, Christchurch, and Nelson.
Action in the 22 centres starts at 10am in Raglan and many of the larger centre marches begin at 1pm, including Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
“People have been incredibly creative”, Miller said. “In Christchurch a giant plain-packaged cigarette packet will be marching in the crowd, while Auckland will be led by an enormous Trojan Horse, locked in a tug-of-war between major commercial interests and activist communities.”
“Around the country everyday kiwis will be photographed for a virtual campaign with signs saying ‘I am a ___________ and I say #TPPANoDeal.’ Already this campaign has been very popular.”
“Trade minister Tim Groser needs to recognise that people don’t buy the ‘trust me’ line. They want to be listened to when they say they don’t want the TPPA. And they deserve to be listened to.”

One of the things that makes America a great place is the right of the people to peacefully assemble. HOWEVER.... In my personal opinion it is WRONG to recruit a child to protest with you. Regardless of whether or not the protest supports something that would benefit a child, they cannot make up their own mind and make an educated decision about what the protest stands for, so they should not be recruited into protesting at the rally. There were many people who had their children with them which I do not find questionable, but when you hand the kids a picket sign.... that is something I have a problem with!
This is a protest by the Westin Workers in downtown San Diego - they want free medical care for their families. There were about 30 people assembled here, but they made more noise than the #occupy protesters did!

Israeli forces conducted aggressive snatch operations against protesters, journalists, innocent bystanders, internationals and Israelis. As the protesters were held and dragged by several soldiers other soldiers freely punched, choked and kicked them.

Women gathered to protest against the current spate of incidents of violence against women and children in Sri Lanka. The protest was organised by Women for Women. The protest was held at Lipton Circus on 20th July 2012. Women demanded the authorities to take immediate action and bring the perpetrators to justice, rather than making inappropriate comments!
