A promise to survive

Persevere and thrive

“Where there is an unknowable, there is a promise..”-- Thornton Wilder.

...many words..one promise

For the theme “your favourite prop” from the group “Me Again Monday.”

All week I mulled over what I would do for my Monday shot. I couldn’t really think of a favourite prop…I don’t really have a favourite. So this came to mind on the weekend and my husband graciously helped me even though getting his picture taken isn’t his favourite thing to do, but he’s all out of focus so that’s a bonus for him :-)

I actually gave this willow figurine to him a number of years ago for a birthday gift along with some other things…I know it’s kind of a weird gift to give to a guy but for some reason I wanted to give it to him. It was what it represented…this one was called “Promise” and on the card that comes along with it was written “Hold dear the promise of love.” I just wanted him to know that even in the tough times my promise to love him would be steadfast.

It’s a lot of give and take to make a marriage work and thrive. You learn to give of yourself when all that is within you would rather not. I’ve learned that when my stubbornness rises up and I choose to push forward and give where I really don’t want to something in my heart breaks free, something is released and that’s a good thing for both of us. I think more and more a little bit of the selfish me dies when I give of myself unhindered expecting nothing in return.

But I can still be so protective of this heart of mine; I guess you could liken it to being an overprotective parent…but I’m learning to back off bit by bit :-) Our kids can’t learn to fly if we’re always getting in the way and trying to keep them safe. Same goes for this heart of mine, it’ll never soar if I’m always keeping it boxed away thinking I’m keeping it safe…

Can you keep them all?

I'm starting to really love grain <3

My exams finally ended on Friday . I had a very good weekend !

Friday itself I had a very good breakfast , window shopped with my friends , then watched Megamind ( which is quite funny ;-) ) with another group of friends.

Saturday I joined friends with their DSLRs to catch the amazing view or Kuala Lumpur , before catching up with someone very close to me.

Today I watched Chopin ; Desire For Love and met someone new :)

If only college ended for the rest of the year. Going back tomorrow.

I have been absent from Flickr for so long . I'm not sure if I can return for good yet ?

Johnny Allan "Promised Land"

Another classic American song poem, 'Promised Land' was made famous by Chuck Berry but Johnny Allan's 'swamp pop' version is the best! Johnny Allan, born into a cajun family, hails from Rayne, Louisiana.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep. But I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep.

The dogs on main street howl,

'cause they understand,

if I could take one moment into my hands,

mister, I ain't a boy, no, I'm a man,

and I believe in a promised land.

Taken yesterday in my Georgia yard. Hope this makes your heart sing! I was thrilled to see a honeybee had found the blossoms and he was one busy bee. Turning colder on Tuesday.

I prayed for everyone who dropped by yesterday plus many more of you. I hope you all have a terrific year photographing your favorite things.

This is back from my last sunrise I did back at the end of May where I went to St Marys lighthouse. I was going to see about heading there for sunrise this morning but when I got up just after 4 it was far too cloudy so I just headed back to bed, hopefully I'll be able to get out for a sunset during the week instead.

promises of another sunny day to come!

" I promise to rain BIG TIME on you in 2 min.... "

Rainbows usually follow AFTER the rain, but on this early morning, it was BEFORE the rain - I was not totally prepared composition wise, so I planted and grabbed this shot before the rainbow faded. If you look in the top right corner, I think it's the start of a 2nd rainbow.

May luck find all of you today!

Saw this excellent rainbow that came as a downpour fell upon (estimation) Northridge. Much needed rain here in Los Angeles with a hopeful sign of a wet El Niño to come.

Beautiful day in North Mayo and the magic begins!

Our day cruise to the Northwestern Fjords in Alaska didn't quite go as planned. With storms moving in, the crew opted to head to two closer Fjords featuring Holgate and Aialik Glaciers. The shot here was taken from the back of our boat as we had departed Holgate.

An hour later we got to Aialik and had some lunch and cocktail featuring some freshly-caught glacier ice floating near by. Even with a shorter itinerary, the weather system moved in faster than the crew had anticipated, we departed quickly and made our way back to Seward. For the next three hours, the 10-12 foot swells from the east and south would stack, giving us a ride of our lives as we would on so many times, no longer be able to see the sky, only waves.

I have been on boats my entire life and will admit on two occasions, the rolls gave me pause. We were fortunate to be sharing a table with a retired couple from Switzerland who were enjoying themselves - so glad for their companionship that day. My wife was petrified (she's not a water person), I could only hold her shaking hands and tell her she was doing great. The crew fumbled and lunged around the listing upper and lower decks just managing to remain on their feet, reassuring passengers as one-quarter of us became ill - they were fantastic in keeping calm and admitted later that the trip was "nasty".

As we steamed back into Seward's harbor, a giant rainbow (pictured here) greeted us from across the bay. It was quite the adventure!

aaand.. I'm back!! xD Wonder if anyone remembers me..My computer broke down and I had to take a break! Now that i'm back and running with a new notebook., here's a photo I took a few weeks back! Missed Flickr and all my dear friends so much! Looking forward to sharing many new photos and catching up on all that I missed!
