Project 52 2012 #9: No time to play
I had to work this week-end. I wish I could have let my hands run on another keyboard...
J'ai dû travailler ce week-end. J'aurais préféré laisser mes doigts courir sur un autre clavier...

Looking through some things, I came across these old tickets from the now defunct Playland Arcade at Town and Country Village, where as a child I used to go to quite often and have many memories of it.
It was last used as a temp. space for Eli Thomas. I had to go into that space to get a tux and it was awkward as the space still had remnants in the back from Playland. It was later demolished for a theater to replace it.

This image is part of my "doors" project.
I`ve decided to concentrate on very common and simple everyday use things, doors. But I look for interesting doors.
....
Today it was really hard to pick a photograph... so i picked two :)
One can clearly see i'm a noob at this since it took me so long to decide which to pick... well i guess i have 364 days left to learn how to get more focused while finding motives to photograph and faster when filtering good photographs from bad afterwards.

The mood on this one is evident; woke up to rain drops slamming on the terrace... and don't get me wrong - i wasn't sad about that... but there is some special kind of bosnian blues (who knows what sevdah is, he'll understand) that i like... and this scenery evoked it...
So, as i put songs that capture the mood on most of my photos, the song for this one is going to be a special one since it is one of my favorite songs...

"Be loud and proud as an Engineer" - Roger Collins-Woolcock, 2011
This is a quote from one of the guest speakers at an engineering leadership reception I attended tonight and it really spoke volumes to me. For the past 5 years I have been making the transition to becoming a loud and proud gay man (from being just a shy and ashamed gay boy), and so the relevance of this message was not lost on me.
We engineers often downplay our achievements, and the public responds in kind. Many people don't realise that engineers are everywhere in society, and they have a role in influencing every part of society. Let's say you're reading this on a bus, so look around you and tell me how many things are influenced by engineers? If you just said "well there's the bus, and the roads it drives on" then you wouldn't be alone.
But in reality, asides from the obvious mechanical engineering influencing the bus functioning as a vehicle and the civil engineering influencing the road design, engineering also played a part in the design of the seats, the lighting, the doors, the payment system, the speaker system, the minimal frame allowing you to see so much out the windows, the hearing aid allowing an old lady at the front to hear the annoying kids at the back, the stroller holding the crying baby, the 50 smart phones that people are playing with and the 50 sets of earphones attached.
Outside, yes there is the road, but there is also the stormwater drainage, electrical, telephone, gas, optical fibre, sewerage running under the road, there is street lighting, signage, traffic lights, those things in the middle of the road that make a noise when you run over them, buildings, bridges, tunnels, etc.
As well as developing western infrastructure and conveniences, Engineers are also involved in humanitarian causes, which was a major focus of tonights event.
Alan Noble is an engineer, and also the Director of Engineering for Google Australia and New Zealand. He told us about the google maps initiatives that have recently played an influential part in the post disaster recovery efforts in many parts of the world, including Australia, New Zealand, Japan, USA, etc. He also didn't mind mentioning the millions of dollars that Google provides to not-for-profit charities and other ventures.
Lizzie Brown is an engineer, and also the CEO of Engineers Without Borders (EWB). She talked about the programs that EWB runs throughout the world, building the capacity of small villages by sharing technology and expertise to improve their livelihood. She also talked about finding your place in the massive profession of engineering, such that you can have the most influence and create the most beneficial change to the world around you.
Finally, Roger Collins-Woolcock is an engineer, and also the Director of Cardno NSW/ACT and New Zealand. Cardno is a global engineering consultancy and services provider that is involved in physical and social infrastructure. It is the biggest environmental consultancy in the USA and provides related services throughout the world.
This should count for at least 2 servings of veggies, don't you think??? Especially since some Vodkas are made from potatoes and this Bloody Mary is made with Vegetable juice. I know that tomatoes are technically a fruit, but I still think of them as a veggie and the celery is definitely a veggie.

Families experiencing homelessness have found a home thanks to Project Homekey on April 19, 2021. LA County purchased the 41-room former Travel Plaza Inn in Compton for about $6.5 million late 2020 to serve as the only Project Homekey site dedicated to serving families. The families began moving into the property on March 5th, and currently operated by HOPICS. (Photo by Los Angeles County)
This is a work in progress restoration of my early 70's Bianchi. I think it's a Bianchi Rekord or Sprint from the early 70's, it came with a cotter type bottom bracket, and a chrome front fork shroud. It does however have a Campione del Mondo decal on the cross bar, which if original dates the bike to 1974 minimum.
I've fitted a Magistroni Chainwheel and a Campagnolo Record rear deraileur, Campagnolo Valentino matchbox front derailleur, Universal Mod 61 Brake levers, Universal mod68 brake calipers.

On the Joecustoms site we had a group customizing project that was called Project '84. The idea being that it is 1983 and we had to make new G.I. Joe and Cobra figures for 1984 and we could only use existing tooling (the first year Joe and Cobras) I went with Firefly here,

BLOOM, THE UNVEILING – 2015 is a project about the disclosure of the inner beauty, a journey into the feminine world, a space where a fearless woman reveals herself. The intimacy opens up as a form of liberation and dignity.
I am very thankful to the model (a real woman) who decided to open her heart and participate to this project.

We were assigned to redesign last year's Fine Arts Festival poster based on our lesson on hierarchy. I used only two types for the poster. I retained the idea of the banderitas and added orange to make the feel a bit more playful and happy. I used color visual cues to emphasize the event per day and I isolated the dates to one side and varied its size as well. I wanted to incorporate the idea of "art" by representing each course under the FA program, but I couldn't quite place it properly without the poster being too messy. :))
It's been a gorgeous day. At lunchtime I walked down to the waterfront and saw this sailing ship in front of the cruise ship.

Ok ..Wasn't the last ! i went into town and walked down this street art scene lane , i was taking a few photo's when Jo cycled past , he turned around on his way to work as a postie !
He came up to me and said i did this scenes , there were many of them !?! I looked bankley at him , and said what , he doesnt actually look like your usual spray artist !?
He does art , sells in local shops as well as doing his post round. They are all done legally with the permission from the council plus this scene was for the local childen walking to the local primary school... Hence Pepper Pig , those amongst us with children , may know of it , I sadly do not !! He was really proud of what he does but also very laid back. Thanks Jo ( he soad Jo - no E !) ...Jo it is !!
