This document is a program and invitation for a memorial event for Hannah Senesh, held on Thursday, May 27, 1965, at the Roman Theater in Caesarea, Israel. The event featured the participation of Golda Meir, who was the Foreign Minister at the time.

The program details the event as a production involving friends who knew Hannah, narrators, a choir, and light pictures. The handwritten names in the upper right, "Golda" and "Katherine Senesh", refer to Golda Meir and Catherine Senesh, Hannah's mother.

Hannah Senesh (or Szenes) was a Hungarian-born poet, playwright, and a World War II resistance operative who became a national heroine in Israel.

Her Life and Legacy -Early Life and Zionism: Born into an assimilated Jewish family in Budapest in 1921, she experienced growing antisemitism that led her to embrace Zionism and emigrate to Mandatory Palestine in 1939. She settled in Kibbutz Sdot Yam near Caesarea and became known for her writing, including her famous poem "A Walk to Caesarea" (Eli, Eli).

Wartime Mission: In 1943, driven by a desire to fight the Nazis and help her fellow Jews, she volunteered for a dangerous, clandestine mission with the British Special Operations Executive (SOE). In March 1944, she and other Jewish volunteers from Palestine were parachuted into Yugoslavia.

Capture and Execution: She crossed into Hungary in June 1944 but was captured almost immediately by Hungarian authorities. She was imprisoned and subjected to brutal torture, but she refused to reveal any details of her mission or her comrades, even after her mother was arrested and threatened. She was tried for treason and, refusing a last-minute offer of clemency, was executed by firing squad on November 7, 1944, at the age of 23.

National Heroine: After the war, her remains were brought to Israel in 1950 and buried on Mount Herzl, the national cemetery in Jerusalem. Her diaries and poetry were published by her mother and became a cornerstone of her legacy, inspiring generations of Israelis.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Golda Meir was a pivotal figure in Israeli history, serving as Israel's fourth Prime Minister from 1969 to 1974, the only woman to hold the position. Often nicknamed the "Iron Lady" of Israeli politics, she was known for her strong will and determination.

Early Life and Path to Leadership:

Origins: Born Golda Mabovitch in Kyiv, Ukraine, in 1898, her family immigrated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1906 to escape anti-Semitic violence. Memories of this early fear influenced her lifelong commitment to a secure Jewish state.

Zionist Activism: In the U.S., she became a passionate advocate for Labor Zionism and immigrated to Mandatory Palestine with her husband in 1921, where they joined a kibbutz.

Political Ascent: Rising through the ranks of the Histadrut (General Federation of Labour), she became a key negotiator for the Jewish Agency during the British Mandate. She was one of only two women to sign Israel's Declaration of Independence on May 14, 1948.

Key Government Roles:

Minister of Labour (1949–1956): Considered one of her most successful roles, she oversaw major housing and road construction projects and the integration of mass immigration to the new state.

Foreign Minister (1956–1966): She Hebraized her name to Meir and focused on building diplomatic support by establishing aid programs with new African nations.

Prime Minister (1969–1974): She assumed the premiership after the sudden death of Levi Eshkol. Her tenure was marked by the 1972 Munich Massacre, where she ordered retaliation against those responsible, and the 1973 Yom Kippur War.

Legacy and Controversy:

While she was widely admired for her contributions to Israel's founding, her premiership faced severe criticism following the Yom Kippur War, where Israel was caught off guard by a surprise attack from Egypt and Syria. Though an inquiry cleared her of direct responsibility, public anger led to her resignation in 1974. She died of lymphoma in 1978 and remains a complex figure in Israeli history.

I'm sure I have seen this before somewhere; however, as I was walking through the streets in rainy Portland, this one resonated with me. I laughed out loud and went on my way happier for finding it.

I'm easily amused.

Tigger helping me with programming my color library manger program. ("Pair programming" is a methodology where two programmers use one computer to write programs. It's as odious as it sounds and is just one of the silly, trendy things that managers love to do to show how much they "get" programmers.)
