Este es el tercer libro de la Dra. Matilde L. Alvarez. Esta obra consta de cinco poemarios de los cuales tres fueron escritos recientemente: Poesías al mar, Poesías cubanas y Vejez y dos: Recuerdos Malditos II y Recuerdos Malditos III en sus primeros años en el exilio. Además, y en prosa, el libro contiene catorce relatos titulados “Recuerdos de mi juventud”. Todos ellos reflejan con sencillez y sensibilidad su mundo de nostalgias, sueños y recuerdos.
Matilde Alvarez, nació el Habana Vieja, Cuba. Graduada de Bachiller en Letras del Colegio del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, tiene un Doctorado en Filosofía y Letras de la Universidad de la Habana, Cuba y en los Estados Unidos (1974-1984) Certificado de Maestra para Junior College del Dpto. de Educación de la Florida y un Master of Sciences in Human Services, Summa Cum Laude de Nova University. Trabajo por 30 años en el Dpto. de Salud y Servicios de Rehabilitación y en los últimos 15 años como Directora de la División de Staff Development and Training de los condados de Dade y Monroe. En 1979 fue seleccionada por un tribunal de administradores del Dpto. para el programa estatal de tres años “Management Fellows” diseñado para preparar lideres para dirigir el Departamento. En 1990 fue la primera administradora aprobada por el Fla. Board of Nursing con una maestría distinta a la de las enfermeras para otorgar créditos educacionales (ceu’s) a ellas a través de los programas que diseñara su División. En 1993 fue la primera ejecutiva del sector público en obtener el premio “Davis Productivity Award” diseñado para el sector privado “por sus contribuciones a mejorar la labor y productividad de los empleador del Dpto. de Salud Pública.” Matilde ha sido conferencista en distintos tópicos educacionales, culturales, de administración y del servicio social en las universidades FIU, St. Thomas, UM, Miami Dade College y en diversos centros de servicios comunitarios. En su carrera recibió 35 certificados y 8 placas en reconocimiento por sus contribuciones, de Tallahassee la última en 1998, al retirarse, “por haber sostenido un extraordinario liderazgo creativo durante toda su carrera en el departamento.” Del 2008 al 2010 fue la asistente del Sr. Manuel Muñiz, Presidente del Instituto Cultural Hispanoamericano de la Universidad de Miami en el Koubek Center donde dictó también 6 conferencias. En Junio del 2012 publico su primer libro titulado “Perfumes del Mar y mis Recuerdos” y en Abril del 2013 su segundo libro “Encuéntrate conmigo en las Estrellas” ambos presentados en la Casa Bacardi del Instituto de Estudios Cubanos y Cubano-Americanos (ICAAS) de la Universidad de Miami.

The PARKS AFTER DARK (PAD) IN MOTION program will offer scenic routes at ten parks in LA County for you and your family to safely walk and ride while maintaining the physical distancing needed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This “open streets” concept is happening every Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at various locations.
Bikes, scooters, and skateboards are welcome! Be sure to wear protective equipment as well as a face covering to stay safe.

During a Native American history-themed sleepover at the National Archives in Washington, DC, 101 kids and their grown-ups spent the night enjoying history-related activities, learning from special guests actor Martin Sensmeier, Jim Thorpe historians Bob Wheeler and Flo Ridlon, and Native American storyteller Perry Ground. After sleeping over night in the Rotunda, participants enjoyed a pancake breakfast made by the Archivist of the United States, David S. Ferriero, on October 14, 2018.
