As in previous years, the Trade Facilitation Programme (TFP) of the EBRD invited its
members and everyone interested in the topic of international and intra-regional trade finance banking to attend the annual TFP event within the framework of the Annual Meeting. TFP currently includes over 100 Issuing Banks in the EBRD region and more than 800 Confirming Banks worldwide. In the last two years, the Programme provided essential support to its members and secured substantial flows of trade finance transactions under crisis-ridden market conditions. This year’s one-day event organised in a conference format offered a unique opportunity to share contemporary trade finance banking expertise including trends, specifics, and intricacies through presentations by professional trade finance bankers and specialists. The event also provided the stage for signing agreements with banks that have recently joined and hosted an award ceremony for the most active TFP banks of 2011
Monday 10th August 1953
The Queen's Players' production of 'Pools Paradise', by Armitage Owen, opened at the Hippodrome and Queen's Theatre in Keighley for one week from Monday 10th August 1953.
Players in the company included Joan Battersby, Jacqueline Hales, Doanld King, Pat Lynch, Marjorie Mitchell, Kay Newman, Patricia Sanders, Arnold Sutcliffe, and George Woolley. The play was produced by Arnold Sutcliffe. Linda Dale accompanied proceedings on the piano.
The Queen's Players took over the 1953 season from the Penguin Players when that troupe folded. There had been a different Queen's Players operating in 1951. The 1953 Queen's Players were formed by Arnold Sutcliffe. Although not in this production, the Players included Roy Dotrice (1923-2017) who went on to much acclaim on radio, television and film as well as in theatre on both sides of the Atlantic. He was married to fellow Player Kay Newman (1929–2007) for sixty years.
The programme also includes adverts for the Regal Milk Bar (proprietor J. W. Dutton) on North Street; Lawkholme Taxis; Ernest P. Angus Ltd. (Austin dealer) of Granby Garage, Riddlesden; Shackleton and Sagar's Minerals from Spring Bank in Ingrow; the cocktail bar of the Victoria Hotel on Cavendish Street; Autowrex Bfd of Bradford; A. Lord & Co. (modern furnishers) with showrooms on High Street; Jack Hey (joiner and undertaker) of Albert Yard off Bridge Street; Fred Smith (fish, poultry, vegtables and fruit) of Church Street; John W. Laycock Ltd. (fireplace specialists) of North Street; Timothy Taylor's Prize Ales ("for men of the North"); Central Taxis of Bow Street; Harry Stowell (plumber and sanitary engineer) of Bradford Road, Riddlesden; Hammonds United Breweries Ltd.; and Windser Pottery (H. Brearley and Sons) of North Street.
The 1950s was a turbulent decade in the history of the Hippodrome and Queen's Theatre in Keighley. Long-time Managing Director Francis Laidler (who also owned the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford) died in 1955 and was succeeded by his widow Gwladys. Television was providing a significant challenge to theatre-going by the middle of the decade, and the Hippodrome had to try more extreme forms of entertainment to draw in the crowds. But to no avail, and the theatre finally closed its doors in 1956, before being demolished in 1961 to make way for the new town centre's multi-storey car park.
The item was donated to Keighley and District Local History Society by Tim Neal in 2022. It is held in the History Society's physical archive.
On 29 August 2012, Kerry Brinkert, Director of the Implementation Support Unit of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention, or Ottawa Convention, delivered a presentation on the landmark disarmament and humanitarian treaty, to the UN Disarmament Fellowship Programme.

Meet the Business Life Ambassadors 2013
The Business Life programme at Brunel is one of the most innovative student employability schemes in the UK. It has always run with the help of student ambassadors who volunteer their time to help other students become successful professionals. So if you are not sure which workshop to attend, or wish to ask about ways you can improve your career skills, please approach them directly for a chat. They will be happy to help you!
Following recent recruitment drive we are proud to announce that we now have in place a great team from across different courses in BBS to help promote, run and develop the Business Life programme. This is a superb opportunity for Brunel Business School students, as it allows them to develop their business skills and experience, supported by exclusive training and mentoring programme.
These young professionals will be undertaking projects such as marketing, product development, communications, business intelligence and event management, but most importantly they will serve other students in helping them fulfil their career goals by guiding them through the Business Life programme.

As they start in their new role we look back at what our previous volunteers had to say about their experience:
"It was great to be part of the BL team and to help promote the programme amongst students and academic staff. I would recommend becoming an ambassador to anyone. It will help you further develop your team working and communication skills and build your network. You will also have fun while doing something worthwhile!"- Ralitsa Todorova, BSc first class honours in Business and Management (Accounting) and final year Business Life Student Ambassador
"My input was always valued and acted upon which made my contributions seem very worthwhile. It has been a pleasure working with the BL team, networking with students and employers and also enhancing my own skills such as the ability to speak in front of an audience. Being a BL Student Ambassador has helped me a lot! Working alongside the people who manage the business school was like we were a small team that makes a lot happen! - Amar Mistry, BSc first class honours in Business and Management with Placement Year and final year Student Ambassador
