Dr. Stonestreet performed physical examinations on local Union Army recruits and draftees, served two terms as Acting Assistant Surgeon with the Union Army, and treated the wounded after the Battle of Antietam (1862). He was joined during the Newcomer House Porch Program in September by his apprentice, Kevin.

Utah State Office of Education Child Nutrition Programs staff visited Western Hills Elementary for A to Z Salad Bar day on Wednesday, April 13.

The program, which rotates in elementary schools in the Granite School District throughout the year, offers students 26 different fruits and vegetables (one for each letter of the alphabet) choices to go with their lunch.

Granite District and Sodexo Food Service workers greeted students into the lunchroom and encouraged them to give a new fruit or vegetable a try.

“It gives children such a great opportunity to experience fruits and vegetables that they have never been exposed to before,” Carla G. Dalton of Granite District Food Services said. “It is such a delight to see their faces when they first walk in and see all the salad bar stations with the balloons.”

Renaissance Minority Male Mentoring Program {3MP} is a platform that provides comprehensive activities that promotes the personal development, academic improvement and other social and educational advancement needs of our minority male students at Winston-Salem State University. The program was originally developed to increase retention rates among minority males, but we realized that all of our males need assistance in different academic, social, and professional areas. So, this program is designed to provide the inspiration and motivation that they need to reach their goals. At the same time, it creates an unwavering brotherhood that supports and expects academic excellence without excuse.

Mission Statement

Renaissance Minority Male Mentoring Program {3MP} is designed to meet the needs of a targeted group of incoming underrepresented/underserved male freshman and transfer students. The program will focus on retention/academic readiness, mentorship, identity/self-esteem, leadership, community involvement, servant leadership, volunteerism, and cultural enrichment, serves in transforming the culture of all males at Winston-Salem State University by reaching their hearts and minds through mentoring relationships and cohort experiences.

Vision

Students in the Renaissance Program will be prepared and commissioned to model the mission of the program and positively influence their peers.

Program Benefits

They were sold out by the time I took this photo, and that was about 2 hours before kickoff.
