4 March 2014. Tawila: A woman and her child wait to be attended in a food distribution center in the Rwanda camp for internally displaced people (IDP) in Tawila, North Darfur.
More than 8,000 women and children living in the camp benefit from two nutrition programs run by the World Food Programme (WFP) in the camp. One is Targeted Supplementary Feeding Programme, which is designed to treat moderate acute malnutrition among children under the age of five and pregnant and nursing women. The other is Integrated Blanket Supplementary Feeding Programme meant to prevent malnutrition among children under the age of three. Through both programs, women learn to prepare highly nutritious food by combining corn soya blend with sugar and oil or by using local ingredients such as lentils and cereals. The women also learn basic child care practices that prevent infection and sickness among their children.

The North Charleston Police Department implemented Project S.T.A.N.D (Stop and Take A New Direction) aimed at not just arresting low level narcotics dealers with little or no prior criminal history but to go a step further and help those involved in the activity change their lives for the better. This is program aimed at reducing recidivism through working on all aspects of the criminals’ lives.
This project was the focus of a Dateline NBC special entitled “Intersection” which aired on March 14, 2013.

This year I felt compelled to make another nerdy Valentine.
This one I did include the instructions for, although if I was giving it as a real Valentine I would have told them to figure it out themselves. :P
Here's how to "run" it (This is a code). Start at the top left of the page and move right. The ^><v will change the direction you are moving in, and then you continue moving in that direction until you find another direction-changer.
"x" pushes a letter to the stack, and then the comma pops the letter off the stack and prints it to the user. The boxes are there to specify spaces, in real code this would just be left blank. Numbers by themselves are pushed to the stack, and they can be printed with a decimal point.
Anything on the stack can be used in arithmetic, for example + or - and also in boolean logic. In this case | is a boolean gate. If the top number on the stack is a 0 the code continues downwards, if the number off the stack was a 1 then the code goes up.
~ reads in one character from the screen.
Finally, @ is the end of the program.
(I've already found one bug, so I might have to fix it and re-upload it.)
The CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) South Asia office recently traveled out to Bagerhat in Bangladesh, a key site of the program, to visit farmers and see how they work in the fields. This is an important aspect of the work, that the South Asia program is conducting, interacting and following farmers to reviewe their current practices. Photo : G.Bhatta (CCAFS-SA).

Project Stage is a new arts partnership between the Turnaround Arts schools at DMPS and Hoyt Sherman Place. The school district's communications team is helping out with one part of the program: photography workshops. Every couple of weeks or so a workshop will be held on various styles of photography, such as portraits, street photography, candids, and more. Students will then be given a disposable film camera to practice what they learned. In late April an exhibit of the students' photographs - along with performances by the Turnaround Arts schools - will be held at Hoyt Sherman Place.
