Todays' youth have less opportunity to experience nature due to busy schedules and financial constraints. South-central Oklahoma is largely impoverished with very few sources for environmental education. In FY2014, the Tishomingo National Fish Hatchery (OK) hosted one of the first Career Discovery Intern (CDIP) in the Fisheries program nationwide. The object was to provide field station experience for a college student with uncertain career goals. Beside other volunteers, two Youth Conservation Corps hirees were also employed at the Tishomingo Hatchery in 2014. All of the student workers received extensive experience in all aspects of captive rearing of imperiled and recreational aquatic species including monitoring water quality, feeding, health, tagging, and release into native habitat. Every child who attended a public school from the late 1980's up until the present most likely knows both this mascot and this program in great detail. Most all students who have been in the public education system in the last fifteen years can remember the police officer who came to talk with them concerning the dangers of drug use. The authors of the article listed above go into great detail in thier research to discover the truth concerning the effectiveness and efficiency of the DARE program. What the authors discovered is that this program like so many before it was a utter disaster and in no manner correlated to any decrease in the number of youths experimenting with illegal substances. In fact, the creators of the DARE program launched a short-term evaluation of the program after only four weeks of operation and concluded that it produced very little, if any anti-drug effects among the participating youth.

As Chernobyl Children International has worked in Chernobyl affected regions over the past 20 years, we’ve seen first hand the medical, economic and social devastation suffered by individuals, families and communities as a result of the disaster.

Our Community Care program provides at home care for severely disabled children. Many of these children were placed on waiting lists for orphanages and institutions by desperate parents who had no where else to turn. We provide professional services such as speech and language therapists, physical therapists, and psychologists.

Hospice Care programs, such as one might find in Ireland and the USA, are in very early stages of development in Belarus. Working in close collaboration with local organizations such as Gomel Hospice Care, our Hospice Care programme helps families care for their terminally ill children in the dignity and comfort of their own homes.

The children served by our Hospice and Community Care programmes are in urgent need of financial sponsorship.

- Prêmio de Qualidade do Superior Tribunal de Justiça, em 2001;

- Distinção no Prêmio Innovare, em 2007;

- Prêmio do Instituto Chico Mendes, em 2008;

- Instituto Brasileiro de Defesa da Natureza, em 2009;

- Ordem do Mérito do Cavaleiro do Exército Brasileiro, em 2010;

- Revelação pela

pesquisa mundial de varas e tribunais ambientais do Greening Justice, da Unesco e Universidade do Colorado, em 2010;

Ecovolis program has proven successful in dramatically increasing bicycle use in Tirana, which, formerly, was a city without a developed bicycle culture. Ecovolis program is the first project in Albania that provides low-income adults with commuter bicycles as well as a donating program for children bicycles. The program recently completed two major steps, opening new bike stations in the city of Durrës and integrating Tourist Information Point Service to the bicycles stations' structure.

History

The Tirana Community Bicycle Albania project won financial support from the George Soros Open Society Foundation Albania (OSFA). An even larger contribution came from the US-based Pedal for Progress organization, which donated 450 bicycles. Sixty of these were used road bikes, which were modified and painted by local technicians to serve as public bikes in the Ecovolis scheme. Another portion was set aside to donate to children and to activists and volunteers at PASS. Still another portion were diverted to the project's Eco Bicycle Shop, a social enterprise which sells bikes for USD 50-150 and reinvests profits for the service and maintenance of Ecovolis bicycles. The main objective of the program was to introduce the community to an inexpensive, environmental friendly form of transport -- the bicycle; to sell used bikes at low prices; to donate bikes to the children of needy families and to PASS volunteers; to establish a bike sharing-scheme in the city (Ecovolis); and to employ financially disadvantaged people and young students to operate the bike-sharing scheme.

System

Each Ecovolis station is staffed by two employees in two shifts and contains 30 -- 60 bicycles. In order to use the bicycles it is required to provide a personal identification document (such as passport or ID card) or by subscribing to the Ecovolis membership Card.

The first black and red bicycles, (also the colors of the Albanian flag) were donated from US-organization Pedal for Progress, (which collect and donate used bicycles). As these bicycles were of different types, converting them for safe and comfortable public use took months of work. The price per bicycle varies from 60 US$ to 90 US$ each. The bicycle is equipped with a front bicycle basket, a behind carrier, a comfortable saddle and a public fender with the Ecovolis sign.

The bicycle stations also provide touristic information to the visitors and a list of the city attractions. Moreover, being a non-profit social enterprise, during particular days the program offers free bicycle service, cycling courses, donations of bicycles and helmets for children in need, bike tours and a bicycle recycle program.

PEPP = Planetary Entry Parachute Program

"Construction of flight test unit from which parachutes will be deployed in a series of experiments to check out new techniques for landing unmanned capsules on Mars. A metal skin is being placed over the disc-shaped frame with a central tube which will house the packaged parachute. The unit will be carried to an altitude of about 140,000 miles by a huge balloon. It will then be released and when free from the balloon the unit will be propelled to a downward velocity of about 10,000 miles per hour by eight small rocket engines. This velocity will closely simulate the speed of a capsule entering the Martian atmosphere. When the unit has been propelled downward to 130,000 feet the parachute carrying a small instrument package will be deployed. The disc-shaped carrier will fall freely to the ground, and the parachute and laboratory instrument package will be recovered for inspection and laboratory analysis. The tests are scheduled to begin mid-1966 at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. In some tests Nike sounding rockets will be used to launch the smaller flight units."
